This email is about the inaccurate player counts showing up in the server
browser. There are have been three distinct problems that we know about.

First, if your server always shows a ZERO player count, the

1.) There's a bug in the replay system due to a flaw in libcurl using a signal
to handle DNS timeout. You can avoid this bug by using IP addresses in your
replay config, rather than DNS names.
The last TF2 update should have fixed the last problems with the player count
for replay and SourceTV. The player count, as shown on the server browser,
will never include replay or SourceTV. As some have noted, the fact that
replay and source TV are players is an implementation kludge, and

I can confirm that you should not freak out. I can also confirm that I've got
it on my list to review the scoring system and reporting messages to see if
they are providing incorrect feedback. I do think there could be a problem

No Orange Box update today. The one we wanted to release includes new steam
binaries, and they require new versions of libstdc++.so. Many older linux
distributions commonly in use do not have the proper libs, and they aren't
available simply by installing a package. So releasing it as is

the steam client one, but not run recently, it might be using the old
steam.dll, instead of the new one released in the latest update.

The update is only required for TF2.
The shared linux server depot will receive a very minor change, to fix the
missing libgcc dependency that is affecting a few linux distributions. That
update is optional, and if your server is working (and you aren't running TF2)
then it is not necessary
I believe the assert is spurrious. I'm actually looking into that right now.
Pretty sure that it doesn't mean it's leaking file descriptors.

We've had a hard time fixing this for several reasons. First, we've never been
able to reproduce this. Second, the issue is confounded by the fact that
client crashes can often produce this. The last round of reports we got for
this problem seemed to always be muddled by client crashes ---

There are two independent scoring systems. One for Steam, one for TF2. They
work on similar principles, but are not identical. The purpose of both is
primarily to identify really bad servers, not differentiate between good and

account. Certain benefits would only be given to servers with level = N, etc.
Show the level in the server browser and give preferential treatment, etc.
Get caught breaking the rules, and you lose your level, etc.
A mandatory TF2 update will be released in an hour or two.

quickplay traffic.

Looks like there is a bug. It's a consequence of the new heartbeating through
Steam instead of direct UDP to the GMS, combined with the fact that the GMS was
hotfixed while your server was up. The GMS probably sent you the out-of-date
message, but it didn't have the proper anti-IP-spoof

Not entirely. The quickplay system looks at the max reported number of
1 - 100 of 408 matches
