Hello Bill,

I am using JAWS 12 with IE 9 and Excel 2010. The following works for me,
but you will have to try it with Excel 2007 and IE 8 to see if it works
for

you.

1. Go to the line of text above the HTML data table where JAWS tells you
how many rows and columns are in the table.
2. Press JAWS key with V.
3. Press D until you hear the document presentation menu item.
4. Press spacebar until you hear screen layout.
5. Press enter key.
6. Press f8 to select the table.
7. Press CTRL C to copy the selected data to the clipboard.
8. Open Excel.
9. Paste the data.

JAWS will read the content of each cell, but you will need to adjust such
things as column widths and row heights.

Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] questions about JAWS and Windows 7

2011-05-20 Thread susan wojtecki

Jim,
Thanks for your response about the JAWS settings. The reason I'm asking so
specifically about individual programs is that my son will essentially be
putting together this PC from a kit so it will not have the usual bloatware,
which means that we are trying to remember what we need to bring it up to
speed. For example, it's my understanding that Windows 7 will include
Windows Media Player and Internet Explorer. Since I'll likely have to
download some things once I'm up and running, I obviously need a web browser
to do this and wanted to be sure I didn't have to jump through a lot of
hoops to get it. As to the email client to use, I've tried both Outlook and
Windows Live Mail ever so briefly but not long enough to feel comfortable
with either one. I will be getting JAWS 12 next week and will have a few
weeks to play with it before purchasing and setting up the new PC, so maybe
it is time to revisit outlook. Again, I really appreciate your thoughts on
all this and will probably have more specific questions as I get further
into this.

Hello list,

I have been having all sorts of trouble with Firefox and the latest Jaws 12
release. In particular the Google Reader page. I wanted to share what I'm
experiencing and see if it may just be an issue with my machine or if others
are dealing with the same problems.

I have Google Reader as one of my homepages and when I launch Firefox, Jaws
always behaves as though the virtual cursor is turned off. In fact, Jaws
will say Application Mode On. In order to get Jaws to work properly, I
have to do an insert+z keystroke command and then Jaws will say Application
Mode off. I'll then be able to go around the page with no problems. This
particular issue only started when upgrading the Firefox 4.0 and is still
present with the latest Firefox 4.0.1 update. If while in Firefox and I go
back to my Google Reader page, either by clicking on the Reader link from
another Google site or through my saved bookmark at least 70% of the time,
the Application Mode On issue comes up.

I have noticed a marked increase of instances of Mozilla crashing with this
latest Jaws release as well. Again, it happns most often while on the Google
Reader page and while in Firefox in general. Either when I go to the Google
Reader page, close a link that I had opened from Google Reader or simply by
just having the page open or refreshing the page with the insert+escape key
command. Upwards of 10 times a day. It would happen every now and then with
the earlier versions of Jaws 12, but it has become a constant with the
latest JFW rlease. I at first thought it was an issue with Firefox or
perhaps a rogue add-on, but I have tried disabling add-ons and plug-ins and
Firefox was still crashing left and right. When I use an older version of
Jaws (11.0)

however, Firefox not only never crashes, but the over all responsiveness of
the browser and JFW feel over all snappier and better. With JFW 12, using
the browser had become painfully slow either through regular navigating from
page to page as well as when trying to refresh a page. Seconds would go by
before Jaws would be able to speak. Not to mention the crashing problem.
Jaws would outright crash much more frequently too.

I don't experience the browser crashing issue in IE8, but the over all
sluggishness with JFW 12 is present along with using other applications. I
at first thought that I had been infected with a virus or other malware, but
with the older version of 11.0, my computer is much, much more responsive.

I do however experience the Application Mode On issue with JFW 11.0 as
well. So maybe it's a Firefox 4.0 thing in regards to this.

There are a couple of other problems, but the ones above are what are
giving me the most problems. Is anyone else experiencing any of these
problems or have any ideas on what may be causing it?

Like I said, when using JFW 11.0, a lot of what I mentioned above doesn't
happen. All my antivirus and malware stuff is up to date. I was going to
shoot an email off to Freedom Scientific, but wanted to get feedback from
other Jaws users as well. This is the first time a new Jaws release has
given me this much trouble since I don't know when and want to be sure it's
perhaps not something on my end.

  Thanks,

  Cristobal

Re: [JAWS-Users] questions about JAWS and Windows 7

2011-05-20 Thread Steve

Ah. Don't believe everything you read.

Office 2007 works fine with either Jaws 11 or 12 on a Win 7 machine. The
Office 2010 programs that you install also should work, but the basic
version of Office 2010 that you get with every Win 7 pc won't work very well
because it is an ad-based free version that uses a web browser, so Jaws
can't script it.

Does jaws allow you to permanantly save whether to disable the inline frames
for a particular site?

It would be much safer to disable it on a site by site basis.  Many
sites only use in-line frames for ads.  Other sites might use them for
content,  especially if it uses some type of server side script.  Our
local radio station posts all of the School closings on a separate page
of their site.  It has tons of links with the content somewhere in the
middle.  The data is displayed in it's own in-line frame.  The fastest
way to navigate to it is by frame.

If you find this to be the exception to the rule, you could make the
default to be ignore in-line frames and just enable them for sites you
know have valid content in an in-line frame.  However, if the default is
to ignore in-line frames, How would you ever know?

Re: [JAWS-Users] Major JFW 12 problems with Firefox

2011-05-20 Thread johnnybrl
hi Bob, yes firefox 4 is not really supported by Jaws 12 yet, however I can
use it quite well. For Example, when I am doing a google search on
something, I can hit h for the headings till I find my desired search
results. After I'm finished with the page that I have viewed, I have to hit
the backspace to go back to the search result pages. However, I noticed
that if you were to hit the backspace key, or alt left arrow to go back a
page, you have to hit f5 so that Jaws will refresh the page, then you can
move on to the next search result.

But I haven't found any real problems with firefox 4 with Jaws, at least on
my laptop.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Major JFW 12 problems with Firefox

Hello list,

I have been having all sorts of trouble with Firefox and the latest
Jaws 12
release. In particular the Google Reader page. I wanted to share what
I'm
experiencing and see if it may just be an issue with my machine or if
others

are dealing with the same problems.

I have Google Reader as one of my homepages and when I launch Firefox,
Jaws
always behaves as though the virtual cursor is turned off. In fact,
Jaws
will say Application Mode On. In order to get Jaws to work properly,
I
have to do an insert+z keystroke command and then Jaws will say
Application
Mode off. I'll then be able to go around the page with no problems.
This
particular issue only started when upgrading the Firefox 4.0 and is
still
present with the latest Firefox 4.0.1 update. If while in Firefox and I
go
back to my Google Reader page, either by clicking on the Reader link
from
another Google site or through my saved bookmark at least 70% of the
time,

the Application Mode On issue comes up.

I have noticed a marked increase of instances of Mozilla crashing with
this
latest Jaws release as well. Again, it happns most often while on the
Google
Reader page and while in Firefox in general. Either when I go to the
Google
Reader page, close a link that I had opened from Google Reader or
simply by
just having the page open or refreshing the page with the insert+escape
key
command. Upwards of 10 times a day. It would happen every now and then
with

the earlier versions of Jaws 12, but it has become a constant with the
latest JFW rlease. I at first thought it was an issue with Firefox or
perhaps a rogue add-on, but I have tried disabling add-ons and plug-ins
and
Firefox was still crashing left and right. When I use an older version
of

Jaws (11.0)

however, Firefox not only never crashes, but the over all
responsiveness of
the browser and JFW feel over all snappier and better. With JFW 12,
using
the browser had become painfully slow either through regular navigating
from
page to page as well as when trying to refresh a page. Seconds would go
by
before Jaws would be able to speak. Not to mention the crashing
problem.

Jaws would outright crash much more frequently too.

I don't experience the browser crashing issue in IE8, but the over
all
sluggishness with JFW 12 is present along with using other
applications. I
at first thought that I had been infected with a virus or other
malware, but
with the older version of 11.0, my computer is much, much more
responsive.

I do however experience the Application Mode On issue with JFW 11.0
as

well. So maybe it's a Firefox 4.0 thing in regards to this.

There are a couple of other problems, but the ones above are what are
giving me the most problems. Is anyone else experiencing any of these
problems or have any ideas on what may be causing it?

Like I said, when using JFW

hi Susan, if you liked outlook express back in the earlier days of windows,
I believe you can download windows mail for windows 7. I believe you can do
a google search for windows mail download and you should be able to get
windows mail. Windows mail will still work in windows 7, according to some
people on the internet. It's pretty much like outlook express. And yes it
is too bad that windows 7 doesn't ave an email program with it.

But for those who doesn't like windows live mail, you can do a google search
for windows mail download.

I don't have windows 7 myself, but I am running vista here, so I'm guessing
it's pretty similar.

Jim,
Thanks for your response about the JAWS settings. The reason I'm asking so
specifically about individual programs is that my son will essentially be
putting together this PC from a kit so it will not have the usual
bloatware, which means that we are trying to remember what we need to
bring it up to speed. For example, it's my understanding that Windows 7
will include Windows Media Player and Internet Explorer. Since I'll likely
have to download some things once I'm up and running, I obviously need a
web browser to do this and wanted to be sure I didn't have to jump through
a lot of hoops to get it. As to the email client to use, I've tried both
Outlook and Windows Live Mail ever so briefly but not long enough to feel
comfortable with either one. I will be getting JAWS 12 next week and will
have a few weeks to play with it before purchasing and setting up the new
PC, so maybe it is time to revisit outlook. Again, I really appreciate
your thoughts on all this and will probably have more specific questions
as I get further into this.

You can only use Windows Mail in Windows 7 by doing a registry hack.
Details are up on the jaws-users website. Otherwise, you need to use
Outlook or Windows Live Mail if you don't feel like changing the registry.

[JAWS-Users] Spell Checker in Outlook Express is acting really weird since instalation of Office 2007

2011-05-20 Thread Alan Dicey
Dear Friends,

My Spell Checker in Outlook Express is acting really weird after I
installed Office 2007

It wants to capitalize each word, and some words that are perfectly correct it
wants to change, for example why it wants to change to wh!

I think I remember seeing something regarding this about a year or so ago, but
I am not sure.

Any one remember that thread, and what was the final conclusion?

The Spell checker is working fine in Word, and set to automatic.

But is completely useless in Outlook Express.

I am using XP-Home, and JAWS 11, and now have Office 2007 installed.

Thanks for any help!

1. While in Outlook Express press control, shift, + O, to open the OE

2. Control + tab to the spelling page / tab.
3. tab to the language combo box, it's around 6 tabs. Arrow up or down

Hi Susan.

About the E-mail client, i can tell you, that i have Used Windows Live Mail

There are some diffaculties reading e-mails, send by som e-mail client's,

There is a security risc by having the reading phane visible, because the
letter changes from unread to read, after highlighting in 5 second's, but
this can be changed in the options menu, so it is possible to hear whom the
mail is from and the subject, and getting it deleted, before the letter
changes to read, and if it should contain a dangerous virus, that
automatically would start working, not will be any risc for you, because you
have had the time to permanently delete it before.
Just change the time from 5 second's to 60 second's, so you have time enough
to do your task.

I don't hope that i have scared you by this last information, but we are

Re: [JAWS-Users] questions about JAWS and Windows 7

2011-05-20 Thread susan wojtecki

Steve and All,
Thanks for all the helpful comments on Windows live Mail. I actually have it
loaded onto this machine but have not gotten very far with it. I assume that
I installed or configured it incorrectly since OE attempts to come up
whenever I've gone into Windows Live, so I've decided to give it up until I
get the new PC. It seems to be causing some folks a lot of grief but
hopefully I will get past all that. In the meantime, I'm checking out any
hints and/or tutorials I can find to hopefully minimize the learning curve.

Steve,
What do you mean by the basic office program that you get with Windows? What
exactly does it include? i assume this is another of Microsoft's efforts to
help us do our computing tasks well? Anyway, I'm not sure what George meant
about Office 2007 being buggy with JAWS 11 but imagine it has to do with the
ribbon interface, which hopefully JAWS 12 will make easier. My husband is
already using Office 2007 so I will hopefully be able to install a copy on
his license. I feel i'm going to have a lot to learn at one time and it's
hard to anticipate how difficult it will be from other people's reports of
problems. Oh well, one day at a time I guess. I've been anticipating this
transition for about a year and have finally decided to take the plunge now
that I have the money saved rather than wait for this PC to die completely.

Ah. Don't believe everything you read.

Office 2007 works fine with either Jaws 11 or 12 on a Win 7 machine. The
Office 2010 programs that you install also should work, but the basic
version of Office 2010 that you get with every Win 7 pc won't work very
well because it is an ad-based free version that uses a web browser, so
Jaws can't script it.

  Alan,
Microsoft Office 2007 does not support Outlookk Express, and the spell

Hi.

What has been discovered here is that Jaws is apparently preparing the
document in the background. But if you maybe alt tab away from the window,
it should come back. It doesn't say it's preparing the document as it used
to say in the past.

That's just what my fiance and I have come across. If this doesn't work,
well at least you can say you've tried. I have no other explanation at this

time.

Have a good day.

[JAWS-Users] re-questions about JAWS and Windows 7

2011-05-20 Thread Jim
Hi Susan, I just purchased a HP desktop with a windows seven home premium 64
bit operating system.
I am using the latest jaws 12, I like the windows live mail, it works well with
jaws.
I am training a friend by phone on outlook, my personal opinion is that outlook
is more confusing then windows live mail.
I did have a little trouble installing jaws on this computer, I think it was
because of the antivirus program that came with it.
Every thing now, seems to be working fast and quick.
I originally bought my computer at staples, but their tech. messed up something
and after 10 days of nothing but trouble I returned it to the store.
I went to Best buy instead and they were great.
God bless.

Hi Susan:
Just wondering,
how can/where do you get the kit to make a PC?

On May 20, 2011, at 10:06 AM, susan wojtecki wrote:

 Jim,
Thanks for your response about the JAWS settings. The reason I'm asking so
specifically about individual programs is that my son will essentially be
putting together this PC from a kit so it will not have the usual bloatware,
which means that we are trying to remember what we need to bring it up to
speed. For example, it's my understanding that Windows 7 will include Windows
Media Player and Internet Explorer. Since I'll likely have to download some
things once I'm up and running, I obviously need a web browser to do this and
wanted to be sure I didn't have to jump through a lot of hoops to get it. As
to the email client to use, I've tried both Outlook and Windows Live Mail
ever so briefly but not long enough to feel comfortable with either one. I
will be getting JAWS 12 next week and will have a few weeks to play with it
before purchasing and setting up the new PC, so maybe it is time to revisit
outlook. Again, I really appreciate your thoughts on all this and will
probably have more specific questions as I get further into this.

Hi Alan;

Now that you have it installed, do the following.
1. Press control, shift, +O, to open OE options.
2. Control + tab, to the spelling page / tab.
3. Tab to the language combobox, around 6 tabs, arrow up or down until you
have English United States highlighted. Tab to apply, press the spacebar,
tab to okay, press enter.

Hope this helped. Take care.

Alan,
Microsoft Office 2007 does not support Outlookk Express, and the spell
checker it uses there is in French. You'll need to get another spell
checker for english in Outlook Express if you use one there.

 Dear Friends,

My Spell Checker in Outlook Express is acting really weird after I
 installed Office 2007

It wants to capitalize each word, and some words that are perfectly
correct it wants to change, for example why it wants to change to
 wh!

I think I remember seeing something regarding this about a year or so
ago, but I am not sure.

Any one remember that thread, and what was the final conclusion?

The Spell checker is working fine in Word, and set to automatic.

But is completely useless in Outlook Express.

I am using XP-Home, and JAWS 11, and now have Office 2007 installed.

 Thanks for any help!

Re: [JAWS-Users] Disabling In line frames in IE

2011-05-20 Thread Brian Lee
Hello Mohammed,

When on the web page where you don't want inline frames to be shown, use
shift+JAWS key+V to personalize the page. In the list of items, use H until
you get to the Headings and Frames choices. Use down arrow to the choice
for showing inline frames and use spacebar to change it. Press enter key.
This should personalize the page so that inline frames are not showing, but
they should still show on other pages.

Take care.

It would be much safer to disable it on a site by site basis.  Many sites
only use in-line frames for ads.  Other sites might use them for content,
especially if it uses some type of server side script.  Our local radio
station posts all of the School closings on a separate page of their site.
It has tons of links with the content somewhere in the middle.  The data is
displayed in it's own in-line frame.  The fastest way to navigate to it is
by frame.

If you find this to be the exception to the rule, you could make the default
to be ignore in-line frames and just enable them for sites you know have
valid content in an in-line frame.  However, if the default is to ignore
in-line frames, How would you ever know?

[JAWS-Users] Converting Web Page Content to Excel

2011-05-20 Thread Bill Tipton
Hi Brian,

When I pasted the table into Excel all content went into column A.

Is there a way to have multiple columns filled with data, and maintain the
column headings?

For example, One web page table I am trying to convert to Excel has 4 columns
and 80 rows.

The column headings are in row 1.

Is it possible to maintain the table structure after it is copied to Excel?

Thank you for your assistance.

 Take care.
