Re: [JAWS-Users] Outlook 2016

2018-07-20 Thread Miriam Vieni
I've always read those two lines with alt 1 for the from field and alt 3 for
the to field, and that still works.
But when I go to the top of the message with control home, which I do
regularly because that's the only way I've been able to get to the top for
years in Outlook, Jaws sometimes reads the from line, rather than the top
line of the message, ever since this new update. And I have to close every
email in order to respond to it with control R. I emailed VFO about
responding to emails and they has two complicated work arounds for me. It's
simpler to just close the email and then respond.
However, one of their emails had questions for me to answer. If I pressed
control R and went down to their original email and answered the questions,
that worked fine. And then I could go back up to the top of the email and
write something with no problem.
I know this is complicated. It's really hard to describe. I'm just sorry I
did the update.

Hi friends,

Using the latest JAWS 2018 and Microsoft Outlook 2016.
If I open an email, I don't seem to be able to change in to JAWS cursor and
read the top of the message heading where the to and cc fields are which is
how I would normally check this.
Has anyone had any similar issues?
The only way I can read the to and cc fields is to shift+tab back to them
and it is sometimes useful to use the JAWS cursor to read the top part of
the screen.

With this version of jaws, the jaws cursor is restricted. I suggest that
you activate the invisible cursor which has no restrictions. I'm not sure
why that was done, but it seems that the jaws cursor seems to follow the PC
cursor and is, as I'm sure you know, restricted from movement in certain
areas.

[JAWS-Users] Outlook 2016/Jaws 2018 latest

2018-06-26 Thread rosecombs52
If you want the remaining numbers, don't ask me.

Problem: First, had to dismiss a reminder using the Jaws cursor, could not
tab to the correct button as in earlier versions of Outlook from 97 forward.
I have office 365 now.

Second, if I write a long message, longer than a line or two and have Jaws
set to read messages as I open them, it stops after the subject line and I
have to invoke the continuous read command, and this has been an issue since
Outlook 2010 in my experience, solution is to close Outlook and reopen it,
and it has been an issue since at least Jaws 16. It is annoying and I have
posed this issue more than once.

I don't usually reply to a lot of messages, but this propensity of having to
shut Outlook and reopen because I did reply just to be able to hear the
actual message when I have it set to read messages when open is not the way
it should work.

Windows 10 April, Jaws 2018 June, Office 365 updates when necessary, I am
not on any program like Fast Ring or beta testing for Windows.

first regarding your sound, did you do the easiest thing first? restart

sometimes this is the easiest fix.
second, regarding the email notification, this is an issue some folks have

for your third question, have you checked at the bottom of the message to

checked, according to my sighted daughter. But it has apparently gotten much
softer. I know I'm losing my hearing. However, I don't think I've lost a
huge amount within the past few days. How do I get the volume up?

Third Question: If an email is sent from an email list which is set up so
that when one responds, the response goes to the original sender of the

1, first copy the email address to the clipboard,

2, now navigate to outlook,
use the keystroke,
ctrl+shift+c=new contact,

3, you will be placed into the first and last name,
so hear you could type in the name of the list,
example;
jaws-users list

4, now you need to tab 7 times, you will hear;
email edit,
now you can paste from the clipboard,
now you can either, press escape and say yes to save changes,
or, you could press alt+s=save.
your email address contact is now into the contacts.
note, when you do the copy, make sure there's no spaces at the beginning or
the end of the email address.

I know what the actual list address is. I have it stored in a word document
and I have to go to that document and copy it and then paste it into the to
field of the email that I want to send to the list. I would like to get it
into the contacts. However, when I used your directions, they gave me the
contact for the person who originally sent the email to the list, so I need
a way to get the email address of the list into the contacts. Of course,
that doesn't ensure that auto complete will work. It works for some
contacts, but not for others.

The email sounds seem louder now, but the right hand speaker doesn't work,
even after I restarted the computer.

My first question: The sound to alert one that a new email has arrived is
checked, according to my sighted daughter. But it has apparently gotten much
softer. I know I'm losing my hearing. However, I don't think I've lost a
huge amount within the past few days. How do I get the volume up?

Second: A few minutes ago, I lost the volume in my right hand speaker. Is
there a way to turn it on?

Third Question: If an email is sent from an email list which is set up so
that when one responds, the response goes to the original sender of the
email and not to the entire list, how can I add the list email address to
contacts?

Re: [JAWS-Users] Outlook 2016

2018-04-26 Thread David Whitehead
here's the approach I've taken with a few client's regarding the outlook
email notification.

Try the following:

Select "File" then "Manage Rules & Alerts" button

Create a new rule

Start from a blank rule and select "Apply rule on messages I receive"

Click "Next"

On the next screen where it asks which conditions you want to check, click
"Next" again and you will be asked if you want the rule to be applied to
every
message you receive.

Click "Yes"

Select checkbox "Play a sound"

In the window just below where it says "Step 2" click on the "Play a sound"
link and browse to sound file you want to play

Click on the "Open" button

Your selected sound should then appear in the "Step 2" window

Click "Next"

Click "Next" again (unless you want any exceptions)

Specify a name for your new rule and then click "Finish"

That's it!

Let me know if it works.
I don't expect you to perform these steps, however, just giving you a little
thought.

Statistics are like a bikini.  What they reveal is suggestive, but
what they conceal is vital.

Hello,

I've been using JAWS 15.0.9023, and a BrailleNote Apex as a Braille
terminal, at work with no complications for years. We recently upgraded to
Office 2016, and Outlook 2016 as a part of that. When I open my Inbox, JAWS
correctly reads the list of messages, but the Apex refers to a "list box
(lbx), 0 items), and won't display the list. The usual command for opening
list boxes (which shouldn't apply anyway) has no effect, and neither does
any manipulation of the thumb keys, which usually would bring the items into
symc with the speech. The messages appear normally and correctly once
opened. The only thing that may have changed, and I can't remember if this
is new or not, is that JAWS refers to a "table view" when the Inbox is
opened. I'm wondering if I could change the way Outlook displays the list,
although that may not be the point since, as I said, the speech is correct,
it's just the Braille terminal's display of the list that isn't. I only care
because the speech is mostly engaged just as a backup when I'm writing, and
I'd prefer to have the Braille be accurate and complete.

Thank you for any advice someone can give me.

[JAWS-Users] Outlook 2016 Address Field Issue

2017-11-07 Thread Tom Behler
Hello, everyone.

This morning, I just discovered a major problem with Outlook 2016 when
originating an e-mail.

When I start a new e-mail with control N, I can no longer type a contact
address into the "to" field. When I do this, I get kicked out of my new
e-mail, and get placed back into my inbox.

Interestingly, I can go to my contacts list, and copy and paste the e-mail
address into the to field with no problem. I can also reply to e-mails with
no problem.

Once again, the issue occurs when originating an e-mail and trying to access
someone in my contacts list.

I am using Jaws 18, Outlook 2016 with Office 365, and Windows 7 here.

Has anyone recently experienced this issue, and if so, have you found a fix?

I am eligible to upgrade to Jaws 2018, and will do so when I get the chance.

However, in the meantime, I'd like to be able to quickly originate e-mails
in the usual way if at all possible.

Dr. Tom Behler from Michigan

Anyone else notice that in Office 365 outlook 2016 if you have messages in
quick settings to read turned on, it does not read the message? This has
been an issue for months on my end. I would not have turned read messages
on if I wanted to have to press insert down arrow each time I open a
message.

You could try a repair on outlook.
It may be taking a while to open your email account for some reason, are you
using wireless?
You could try with a cable if that is practical.
My laptop always takes a while to bring up the logon box in Outlook on my
laptop but works perfectly quickly on my other machine in the office and my
desktop machine.

times. They remoted into my computer. You might consider calling them if
your issues persist.

[JAWS-Users] Outlook 2016/task message

2017-08-23 Thread Laura Richardson
Hello,

Yesterday evening I turned the computer on and clicked on Outlook 2016 to
check my emails. When I did this Jaws said "2 out of 4 tasks are complete".
I noticed emails that I had opened and read but didn't delete a few hours
earlier were not being shown in my inbox. Also, I was not able to send or
receive any emails. I closed Outlook, waited a short bit, and tried to open
Outlook again. This time everything was fine .. the emails that weren't
being shown were now there and I was able to send and receive emails.

Could somebody please explain what tasks are and why I would get this
message? .. I'm using Windows 10, Jaws 18 & Outlook 2016. Any input is much
appreciated.

Laura

[JAWS-Users] Outlook 2016, office 365!

2017-08-15 Thread rosecombs52
I am new to Office 365, and Outlook 2016. First how can I see how many
messages are in a given folder every time I wish to know that information.

Second, when using spell check why am I asked if I wish to check the
original message every time when it isn't what I want.

I don't need to play 50 questions with sending e-mail messages, do I want to
download external content, do I want to send when I said I did . I have
traveled through options several times, all 13 categories and still am being
annoyed with more questions than I wish to have to answer.

Annoyed, and when I type in my e-mail address it wants to capitalize the
first letter when it isn't a capital. When I try to correct this error it
wants me to take some action.

Tired of playing 50 questions for every e-mail I send or receive!

Huh?

I think we are missing each other here.

I'm aware of how to navigate between the different accounts in the folder
structure.
I'm trying to rename the different email accounts, so for example, if I
check my work account, I don't have to press k 3 times, or in this case 4
times, since in the folder tree, there is a folder that begins with k.
I just successfully renamed this account I'm writing you from; however, the
other two accounts are exchange accounts which according to google is a tad
bit tricky to rename.

No, I'm not writing in braille.

No, you aren't entirely wrong. The thing people have to watch out for are

The Home and Student editions do not contain Outlook. Home and Business
2016 does contain Outlook; as of course does the Pro version.

Re: [JAWS-Users] outlook 2016

2016-08-21 Thread Steve
No, you aren't entirely wrong. The thing people have to watch out for are
the various and confusingly-named versions Microsoft has out there for
Office.

The Home and Student editions do not contain Outlook. Home and Business
2016 does contain Outlook; as of course does the Pro version.

2016-08-19 Thread Tom Behler
I guess I stand corrected too!

Once again, I decided to go the Office 365 route, and, in my view, the verdict
is still out for me as to whether this was the best decision.

I'm finding that whenever Office 365 is updated, it can create some
difficulties with Jaws functionality.

As some may recall, my latest example of this was with the failure of the shift
tab to access my Outlook e-mail folders list after a recent update.

Both FS and Microsoft are aware of this issue, but it is still a bit
disconcerting.

I do not think the home version of MS Office has Outlook.

You may have to spring for the pro version, or you could do an Office 365
annual subscription. This is what I did earlier this summer.

JAWS has some scrolling problems in outlook 2016--at least it's been that
way for me. It's caused me to stop using JAWS as a primary screen reader.
You might be better off pressing shift end or home to select all your
messages and deleting. You may even have to do it twice.

Hope this helps a little.

Hello,

I'm using a laptop with Windows 10 (not yet updated), outlook 2016 and JAWS
17 (latest version).

When I'm in my inbox or any other folder, and hit Control+A to select all
messages, JAWS says nothing; leaving me wondering if I hit the wrong
shortcut keys.

This only occurs when I'm selecting all messages in an Outlook folder. It
does not occur, for example, when selecting all when editing a message in
Outlook or selecting all files in File Explorer.

For me, this behavior started with Windows 10 and JAWS 17. Anyone else
seeing this?

Thanks,

Re: [JAWS-Users] Outlook 2016 and select all with Control+A

2016-08-09 Thread Adrian Spratt
I experience the same thing with Outlook 2010, Win7 and JAWS 17. My workaround
is to make a mental note of the last email in the list, as well as the most
recent, then to press shift-control-end to select everything from start to
finish. In this procedure, JAWS verbalizes the last message, so I'm confident
all the messages are selected.

I'm finding control-a increasingly unreliable. For example, it doesn't
consistently select all the data in a subject line.

Re: [JAWS-Users] outlook 2016

2016-06-11 Thread Jason White
Which JAWS version are you using? I experienced this problem (and worse) with
JAWS 16 and early releases of 17, but not with IE, as I don't use IE. However,
Adobe Reader (if I switched to another application while using it) and
Microsoft Outlook were definite causes. The bug must have been found and
fixed, as it disappeared after a JAWS 17 update.

The cause of your difficulty may be different, however.

If you can determine why you're experiencing it and some of us (also running
JAWS 17 and Outlook 2016) are not, you'll be in a better position to solve
the
problem.

I'm also dealing with a similar issue at the moment, where it isn't clear
what
factor (in the software configuration, in the versions of the various
programs
installed, etc.) is triggering a problem.

I've had issues with Jaws hanging when loading IE11 on my Windows 7 box as
well. It particularly happens if the page won't load.

Jaws gets sluggish and non-responsive.

I have to open a different screen reader in ordere to close IE in the
process manager.

Yes, Kimsan, I have experienced this sluggishness problem as well. In
fact,

it sometimes gets to the point where my computer becomes unusable. It
appears that something is running in the back-ground, conflicting with
Jaws,

but so far the culprit has not been found. I'm using a locally-installed

I have contacted Freedom Scientific several times about this issue, and

I also contacted the Microsoft Accessibility hotline, and their only
solution was to defrag my hard drive. (sigh)

At the same time, though, I have to be honest. Given the money we have to

should be having this problem.

The laptop on which I have office 365 is a business-grade laptop with 16
gigs of RAM, which means there should be plenty of resources to accommodate
Jaws and whatever else needs to run when I'm using Outlook. As we also
know, Outlook is an extremely popular e-mail client, so when compatibility
with Windows 7 is claimed, I feel it is reasonable to expect that it should
run reasonably well. I also am troubled by the "not sure if there is
anything we can do about it" response that I seem to have gotten from FS at
least so far.

Still and all, I'll keep trying to troubleshoot the issue when I get the

Does anyone experience sluggishness with outlook 2016? I could be replying
to an email and it would hmm, not freeze but lag, as in take for ever for
jaws to notify me I'm in the edit field, and I can't even up or down arrow.
That's just one example.

I also experience jaws not reading text when reviewing my message, as it
takes a couple of seconds to read the line or character. I'm using the
latest build of jaws 17 on windows 10 if that matters.

I quickly launched that other screen reader and did some navigation and yes,
it's more responsive but the shark is my main squeeze.

I, for the short time I spent on it using the other screen reader had a
pleasant experience.
Now I will turn jaws back on lol.

try loading it to see if it would read better?
My reason for asking, sometimes while using I E, with win7 pro with JAWS 15,
it would not say anything, but when I load NVDA it would read. Sometimes
JAWS would start to talk as well...
It's a good thing I have the peview program to turn off one of the

Yes, Kimsan, I have experienced this sluggishness problem as well. In fact,
it sometimes gets to the point where my computer becomes unusable. It
appears that something is running in the back-ground, conflicting with Jaws,
but so far the culprit has not been found. I'm using a locally-installed
version of Office 365 containing Outlook 2016.

I have contacted Freedom Scientific several times about this issue, and they
are at a loss as to what to do to solve it. The only things they advised me
to try were a Jaws type repair (which didn't help), and to eliminate all add
ons if possible, which also didn't help.

I also contacted the Microsoft Accessibility hotline, and their only
solution was to defrag my hard drive. (sigh)

The laptop which has this problem is a Windows 7 laptop, using Jaws
17.0.2007.

That laptop is currently with my University's I T department for some other
maintenance work, so when I get it back next week, I will try tackling the

Rather disconcerting, to say the least.

I am using Windows 7 Pro, JAWS 17, MAGic 13 and Office 365 downloaded.
It seems on occasion that JAWS pauses for 5 to 10 seconds to think something
over right in the middle of an Outlook operation, usually reading an email

I am upgrading to Windows 10 today and hoping that will help but not

Hello Tom:

I don't know, but I doubt it would make any difference, if I were you, I
would try modifying the account manually, taking care to go to the Advanced
tab and checking the ports and security. I just cannot think of anything
else that would prevent your connecting to Gmail, unless you changed your
geographic location; it has happened to me in the past that while
travelling, Gmail has prevented my logging in, mistaking the change of IP
address for an attempt to hack my account.

Hello Tom:

I have no idea why Outlook 2016 does not recognize your private Gmail
account, all I can tell you is that I have many domains and thus, many email
accounts and besides several in three different email servers and the one
from my ISP Windstream.net, I have one at Gmail that works perfectly in my
Outlook 2016.

I do not however, use the automatic configuration offered by Outlook for any
of my accounts, I prefer to configure them all manually with no problems.
Remember of course, that you should have POP3 authorized in Gmail before you
can Pop your messages, but if you did it before, I imagine you do.

Try doing it manually, remember to go to the Advanced tab to change the
ports and security.

Humberto

Hello.

I have been trying to get my new Windows 7 laptop to work correctly with

recently discovered that Outlook 2016 is no longer recognizing my personal

Humberto

Hi Ed,
Yes, just to let you know I have three accounts right now in outlook 2016.
I have successfully made thre different signatures.
Like I said, I can use the ribbons to insert any one of the three signatures
on any email.
I kind of like it this way.
But if there is a way to tell outlook to always put a certain signature on
to all emails for a certain account, I would like to know how to do it that
way as well.
I have downloaded some office 365 books from bookshare, with step by step
instructions for using outlook, word, and other office 2016 programs.
I have not had a chance to read them yet.

Creating a signature in Outlook 2010

3. Down-Arrow once to mail.
4. Tab several times until you get to the word signature.
5. Press you're spacebar.

8 Arrow up/ down until you find the email address that you want to attach

9 Tab twice, you will hear, "New signature".
10. Press enter.
11. Type a name for your signature. Example; the account/email address, 12.
Press tab and spacebar/enter on the okay button.
13. Now you are placed on the signature page. As you tab/navigate read

14 When you arrive within the edit box here you can type in your signature,
then tab and press the okay button.
15. You're now given a screen of various choices. Tab through to decide

the okay button and press enter, you are placed back into the inbox and have
created you're signature.

Those instructions that Jim had do work just the same way in Outlook 2010.
Tell us what you have done and where you went wrong and then maybe we can

1. Go to the tree view in Outlook where your folders are like, inbox, draft
and so on. Now arrow up until you hear your email account. Like mine would
say pink...@abe.midco.net.
2. Now when you hear your email account name press the application key.
3. arrow down until you hear new folder. Now enter on new folder. Then press
enter.
4. Now type in the name of the new folder like example Jaws group.
5. Tab to ok and press enter.
Now if you arrow down your list of folders you should have the new folder in

If you get this far and have created the new folder successfully let me know

Good evening Jaws users list.

This is just the simplest way I have seen to make a folder and cause the
directed emails to go into it.

Using Outlook 2016 and Jaws 17.

For example, making a folder for the Jaws users list or making a folder for
the Windows 10 and Jaws Yahoo group.

1. Be on the email account you wish to add a folder to.

For example: ***outlook.com, the *** standing for your name followed by
the email address.

Highlight that account folder, press the applications key while on it.

2. Go down to: New Folder... press enter.

3. Type in the folder name, press enter.

The new folder is created.

4. Go into the inbox of the account you have added the new folder to.

5. Arrow down and highlight the email you wish to put into this folder.

For example: Jaws users list or the Windows 10 and Jaws list.

6. Press the applications key.

7. Arrow down to Rules sub menu, press the right arrow key one time.

8. Press enter on: Always move messages from***followed by the name of the
group or person for this folder.

9. Arrow up and down through the list of folders in this tree view, find the
new folder, press enter.

10. All the emails for now on that you have selected, either a list, group,
or personal email, from these choices will always go into this new folder.

Remember while in the tree view of folders, right arrow key, expands a
folder account, and left arrow closes the list of folders for that account.

This also works in Outlook 2010.

This is a much easier way of doing rules for the outlook email client.

Good luck...

Hi Al,
Now here is what you do next to get the emails to go into the correct

1. Go to an email that you want it to go into a certain folder. Do not open

2. Now with the focus on that email press the application key.
3. Arrow down to rules and press enter.
4. Press enter on: Always move messages from***followed by the name of the

5. Arrow up and down through the list of folders in this tree view, find the

Now all your emails with the same group name or person will go into the new
folder you created and the new ones
that come in should go to that folder.

Note: When you press enter on the rules make absolutely sure that you choose
Always move messages from as there is one in that same list that says always

Hi,
Those instructions that Jim had do work just the same way in Outlook 2010.
Tell us what you have done and where you went wrong and then maybe we can
help you. I will try and explain the first to create the new folder.
Now if you arrow down your list of folders you should have the new folder in
your list.

If you get this far and have created the new folder successfully let me know
and I can instruct you how to make the emails go into that folder.

Jim

Only by a Jaws tandem have I used outlook 2010 at all.

Are there certain view settings to do for best use of Jaws 17?

Any help with this question would be appreciated.

Also, does anyone have steps for doing a signature in outlook 2016?

Thanks.

Jim
