2017-10-18 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

Your Mac will do that by itself. If you had a bunch of contact info either
typed or entered at the bottom of an eMail, normally, you can just VO-shift-m
on that area and create a contact from it. At least it used to work. I
haven't used that in a while though.

Fantastical maker cleverly redefines contact apps with CardHop | TechCrunch

2017-10-18 Thread Mary Otten
This sounds like a very nice app. I don't know how voiceover friendly it is,
but based on the iPhone app Fantastical, it could be good of course the iPad
app isn't so good. The thing I like most about the sound of this app is how you
can just type all the stuff in and it will automatically parse it and put it
into a contact or fill out an existing contact. That would be a big timesaver.

its more than what I am looking for.

In essence, Fantastical pulls calendar and reminders into one. I
have it on my iPhone but I still do most tasks from the computer.

Re: Fantastical for Mac

2015-03-15 Thread Andrew Lamanche
Yes, I seem to remember that you needed to use a shortcut to bring it to the
front for voiceover to interact with it. But there were also issues around
moving in the window and actually setting up reminders or events. I tried and
tried for hours without any success. I can't quite remember now, so do forgive
me because I got so mad that I gave up on it. I should've written to the
developer but quite honestly with my work piling on and life, I just couldn't
face it so I cut my losses and ditched it. I asked some questions on the list
about this but received no response so I abandoned the app altogether and stuck
to its iphone version and reminders on the mac.

I'm sorry I can't be more helpful but don't waste your money unless the
developer can let you use it for free for some time.

Best wishes

Andrew

Christina,
VO-shift-space is reliable once I found that keystroke.

I tried entering a custom keystroke in Fantastical but could not.
Will need to look at that again.

Unless things have changed, you should be able to get to fantastical from the
application chooser. Do you know what that is? I'm not at my computer right
now, I think it is VO plus F1 F1. Depending on your settings, you may also need
to hold down the FN key. That is how I used to get to it once fantastical was
hiding in the background.

Yes that is what is going on. Same behavior as Dropbox. When I first
started Fantastical, it provided a system dialog box which has a menu.
Now I cannot get that.

So, how does one interact with this kind of app, like Dropbox?

Some apps are not designed to open as full apps but instead operate as

Dropbox is an example. I have no knowledge of but it sounds like this
may be a similar app. Trying to run the app from the Dock is not then
useful as the main purpose of the app is to put the feature in the Menu
Extra bar.

So if you try to run DropBox as an app you will simply get a dropBox has
no windows message as all the app is doing I think is inserting itself
into the menu extras bar.

Re: Fantastical

2015-02-18 Thread David Griffith
Some apps are not designed to open as full apps but instead operate as
versions which work from the Menu Extras menu.
Dropbox is an example. I have no knowledge of but it sounds like this
may be a similar app. Trying to run the app from the Dock is not then
useful as the main purpose of the app is to put the feature in the Menu
Extra bar.

So if you try to run DropBox as an app you will simply get a dropBox has
no windows message as all the app is doing I think is inserting itself
into the menu extras bar.

getting fantastical to sync with iCloud?

2014-12-11 Thread Justin Mann
Hi all,

How do you get fantastical to enter your events in to your calendar, and then
have them sync with iCloud? In other words, I want to enter an event in
fantastical, and then be able to see that event on my calendar from my iPhone.
That is possible right?
Thanks,
Justin

FAntastical on the mac

2014-01-10 Thread Andrew Lamanche
Hi Listers,

Impressed by the Fantastical 2 app for the iPhone, I ‘ve purchased Fantastical
for my macbook because I can’t really work out Calendar at all.

While I’m getting to grips with Fantastical, I still get a bit confused. I
wonder whether anybody else on the list uses Fantastical for mac? If yes, how
does one actually go through the list of all the events and reminders? When I
arrow up and down the event list, I hear ‘unknown” and it is only when I bring
the mouse cursor to the voiceover cursor that I hear the event title spoken.
Also, the toggle command + k which is supposed to toggle between reminder mode
and event mode doesn’t actually tell you which mode you’ve selected.

If anybody uses Fantastical on the mac and can share some tips, I’d be
grateful. I know that some of you use calendar under Maverick but I can’t work
out how it works. I’ve read through your post on the native calendar under
Maverick but I still can’t get anywhere with it. That’s why I purchased
Fantastical for mac.

Andrew

Re: fantastical 2 is an app I like more than apple calendar

2013-11-10 Thread Nicholas Parsons
I've been playing with this a little more and I like it. It has its quirks, but
it's definitely better than Apple's Calendar in iOS7, and the fact that I can
view my reminders along with the day's events makes it probably better than
Calendar in iOS6 too.

Re: Fantastical for Mac

2013-11-05 Thread Nicholas Parsons
Thanks again for your help, Christina. I found the calendar view like you said.
But like you I couldn't seem to find any information on the events or reminders
associated with each day.

I am looking for a calendar much like Apple's Calendar but one that let's me
view reminders along side events. Sadly, seems Fantastical for Mac won't quite
do the trick. I find entering events in Apple's Calendar easy enough, so I
don't think Fantastical for Mac offers me too much.

Just out of interest, Christina, have you tried entering an event in Apple's
Calendar lately? I've heard people talk about how easy it is with Fantastical,
but it sounds much the same as with Calendar. I think Apple must have improved
this. For instance, you can now just type Dinner on Saturday at 8, and Apple
will create an event at 8PM next Saturday titled Dinner. Super easy.

Cheers,
Nic

Re: Fantastical for iOS

The tip displaying at the moment says pull down on the DayTicker until it
switches to the calendar. So far as I can work out, the DayTicker is a
horizontal row of dates across the top of the screen, just below the settings
button, month/year and the add event button. I tried double tapping on this and
swiping my finger down, but I can't seem to get it to do anything. Thanks for
the tip though. If I can't get it to work I'll try getting a sighted person to
get rid of the tips for me then it sounds like I'll be in business.

Regarding VoiceOver not announcing the day of the week in month view: How
about contacting the developer on this issue? That should be something the

Just while we're on the topic of calendars, I also downloaded the trial

actual calendar part of the application seems completely invisible to
VoiceOver. It also seems to make VoiceOver really sluggish. I will contact

Re: Fantastical for Mac

Hi Nick,

OK, I found it. It does not pop up after hovering the mouse. That was something
different. I can explain that later if need be but for now. Here is the
calendar. When you are in the app, the very first item you will here right
before the edit box to add a new event says “dim calendar”. Just interact with
that. then VO arrow around. I have noticed some behavior changes with Maverick.
I keep having to access the application chooser to access Fantastical, and I
never had to do this before. It’s like VO keeps loosing focus on Fantastical.

Let me know if I can help further :)

Re: fantastical 2 is an app I like more than apple calendar

2013-10-31 Thread Danny Noonan
Go to Settings help and the last option is to contact them.

I quite like the date ticker only being the date as it suits it's function
IMO. Also when date ticker is in focus a 3 finger swipe left or right moves by
3 days. To add to that when the events section, ie events and reminders, roter
on headings will move day by day and 3 finger swipe up or down will scroll
larger amounts although I've found this a tad buggy as focus jumps back to my
start point at times. I'll tap and hold on the month heading and jump straight
to the date or nearbye it and then use the date ticker or headings in events to
check round the date I want.

Sorry if this is obvious to some. I've only played with the app for 40 minutes
and with no mention of VoiceOver anywhere I had to reinvent the wheel a bit.
It's a different beast to apples calendar app. Smile.

Re: Fantastical for Mac

I honestly do not find many features I can use on the mac version of
Fantastical. It’s very tricky. Plus, you can navigate around the month view of
the calendar but VO won’t announce if you have any events on that day. Well, it
does not on my computer. I mainly purchased the app because I just found it so
easy to enter an event. That is the only thing I use it for.

Good Luck,

fantastical 2 is an app I like more than apple calendar

2013-10-30 Thread Christina C.
HI all,

I just downloaded and tried the app Fantastical 2 on my iPhone. It’s currently
half off right now. I’ve only played with it for around 20 minutes so this is
my early take on the app. I like it a lot more than the apple calendar app,
mostly because I now have access to month view this way. The app is way easy
for me personally to use. So far, everything has been mostly accessible and
understandable to me except for one area. This area is called the week view.
You can switch the app to week view by turning your device to landscape view.
I really don’t find this helpful as I can’t quite figure the layout out and I
really just don’t need this feature.

The app was super easy to set up and it gives a tiny bit of a tutorial on how
to switch from ticker view to month view. I personally don’t care for or need
the ticker view as I think this may be something more suitable to someone who
is visual.

I had the fantastical app before but this newer version is way better. I love
that I can see my calendar events and my reminders all in one spot. Of course,
my favorite thing was the month view, which was a must have for me. So, if you
have an older version of Fantastical you will need to purchase Fantastical 2
and it’s on sale now for $2.99. I was upset about this as I already had
purchased Fantastical a year ago but fifteen minutes after I downloaded the
app, I am more than pleased with my $2.99 purchase.

One thing I would find helpful is if in Calendar view when I touch a day
instead of just saying October 30th 3 events, 1 reminder, I would love it to
say Wednesday October 30th, 3 events, 1 reminder. :) This really is a small
thing but it would just be a time saver instead of having to slide my finger up
to see what day of the week a particular date falls on. :) The way it is now,
it just requires a bit more brain power on my part. :)

I do want to note that I do not use my Calendar app for anything fancy or
complex. It’s mostly for the Family’s schedule and so I have not tested every
aspect of the app but so far so good. :) I do share my calendar with my husband
so that he will know what is going on and that part is working like a charm as
well. :) I think it’s because everything is synced with apple’s Calendar and
reminder apps.

Christina

saw something indicating that he had to choose the day take her and then move
down to the calendar option. I don't seem to be able to do that either. Can you

calendar app, mostly because I now have access to month view this way. The
app is way easy for me personally to use. So far, everything has been mostly
accessible and understandable to me except for one area. This area is called
the week view. You can switch the app to week view by turning your device to
landscape view. I really don’t find this helpful as I can’t quite figure the
layout out and I really just don’t need this feature.

Of
course, my favorite thing was the month view, which was a must have for me.
So, if you have an older version of Fantastical you will need to purchase
Fantastical 2 and it’s on sale now for $2.99. I was upset about this as I
already had purchased Fantastical a year ago but fifteen minutes after I
downloaded the app, I am more than pleased with my $2.99 purchase.

One thing I would find helpful is if in Calendar view when I touch a day
instead of just saying October 30th 3 events, 1 reminder, I would love it to
say Wednesday October 30th, 3 events, 1 reminder. :) This really is a small
thing but it would just be a time saver instead of having to slide my finger
up to see what day of the week a particular date falls on. :) The way it is
now, it just requires a bit more brain power on my part. :)

I do want to note that I do not use my Calendar app for anything fancy or
complex. It’s mostly for the Family’s schedule and so I have not tested every
aspect of the app but so far so good. :) I do share my calendar with my
husband so that he will know what is going on and that part is working like a
charm as well. :) I think it’s because everything is synced with apple’s
 Calendar and reminder apps.

Re: fantastical 2 is an app I like more than apple calendar

2013-10-30 Thread Nicholas Parsons
This sounds great I will go get it now. I've always heard good things about
Fantastical but until Apple stuffed up Calendar in iOS 7 I never thought I'd
need it because Apple's Calendar was great. I've always wanted to see my
calendar events and reminders/ToDo's in one place though, so this point really
sold me.

Regarding VoiceOver not announcing the day of the week in month view: How about
contacting the developer on this issue? That should be something the developer
could easily address and I agree it would be a really useful feature for
VoiceOver users.

Just while we're on the topic of calendars, I also downloaded the trial version
of BusyCal for Mac. It has fantastic features, but unfortunately the actual
calendar part of the application seems completely invisible to VoiceOver. It
also seems to make VoiceOver really sluggish. I will contact the developer
though and hopefully might be able to work something out.

Cheers,
Nic

Fantastical for Mac

2013-10-30 Thread Nicholas Parsons
Hi all,

I downloaded the free 14 day trial of Fantastical for Mac. I managed to get
through the set up process fine, but seem to be having some issues with the app.

The app doesn't appear to have a window. I can only seem to access some kind
of system menu, and this only displays a search field and list of events and
reminders. I can't seem to actually see a calendar view.

I want to let the developer know about this, but want to confirm my findings
with someone else first so I can give the developer accurate and useful
information in my report. Similarly, if someone else has already contacted them
about accessibility then maybe it's not worth the bother.

Thanks,
Nic

Fantastical for iOS

2013-10-30 Thread Nicholas Parsons
I bought Fantastical 2 today on sale. Everything seems labeled properly, but
still having some issues getting it working.

1. The settings button remains dim. Presumably I have to do something to
activate this button, but not sure what that is.
2. Welcome message remains displayed. The welcome message tells me to swipe
down on the date picker to reveal the calendar. I can't work out how to do this.
3. Unable to open events or mark reminders as complete. Double tapping on
reminders or events doesn't seem to do anything.

If anyone can help with any of these issues I'd really appreciate it.

Cheers,
Nic

Re: Fantastical for iOS

2013-10-30 Thread Danny Noonan
All your problems are caused by the intro tips. Once you do the 3 tasks it
gives you your settings etc will not be greyed any more.

When they say swipe or slide down vo users do a double tap and hold and when
the tone sounds slide your finger down a bit. With this and double tap on the
today button etc I was able to get into the app proper.

fantastical calendar accessible?

2013-03-07 Thread Yuma Antoine Decaux
Hi All,

I'm wondering if fantastical, a calendar app that sounds really cool is
accessible. Has anyone plunged into buying it and found out the contrary? Or is
it accessible and everyone is using it?

Best regards,

Yuma
