As a first guess, I'd say that the windings on the compressor clutch
magnet might be shorted (at least partially). You could get the
pulley/clutch assembly off a salvage yard car and try it.
Parts out in the moving/vibrating/oil-covered/dirty end of
things experience failures. Clutch coils,

the bent rod to hydrolock in that cylinder due to failure of the head

Not that I have any experience with this whatever, but why not weigh the
removed rod and try to match it with the new replacement? One could machine
off excess weight, but that would not work if the replacement rod is lighter
than the original.

Does anyone know if a W124 wagon (1987 300TD) can safely tow a 3500lb

I drug out the shop manuals and the chiltons to peruse over beers. No
good answers on just what the correct adjustment is. I suspect it
needs the cable to be new. The old one lost the lead knot on the end
that would have been right. I have it bent over to lock it to the
