Re: [MBZ] Water leaking into trunk- '87 300SDL

2013-07-28 Thread Ralph Robertson
thanks, will have the seal checked carefully. The water seems to come in
at the top of the trunk, right across the whole trunk. Possibly even from
the ledge under the window, but it could be running from the trunk lid
across to this ledge. Will check it out.

I have an '87 300SDL that has a peculiar leak in the trunk area. When the

uphill, no water gets in regardless of how hard it rains. Does this sound
 familiar to any of you??

I tried putting some flowable sealant around the back window, but that did
 not help.

Also need to keep in mind that there are some pumps with the
Bosch production number 251 that may have the mark on the housing
in the wrong place. Not all of them either. It should be under
the approximate middle of a bolt if it isn't then you need to set
the gear mark three teeth to the left of the housing mark so the
mark on the gear ends up under the middle of the bolt. It's in
the manual for replacing the pump with pictures and all.

Silence leads to speculation. Silence by someone holding your money leads
to intense speculation. Despite an obvious melt down for what ever reason
on your part there are two debts incurred. One is monetary, and is
apparently being addressed. The second is a debt of business trust and
goodwill, which came with the purchase from Rusty and is owed to members of
this group for the loyalty and trust they placed, and that he earned and
you accepted with the purchase of the business, with them, as individuals,
and as a group.

I would strongly suggest you attend to both of those debts with full
recognition of their value, regardless of weather or not you ever sell
another car part in this lifetime.

Both do not respond to silence and are not settled by avoidance.

Man up, pull up your big boy pants, and press on with honor.

I used the front sunroof seal from them and while it wasn't much
fun putting it in it works just fine. Did close a bit tight at
first but it is just fine now. I would think that with any rubber
seal the new one will be a bit tight till it compacts to the in
use stage. At least that is what happened with the door seals.
I got front door seals from Autohaus a couple of years ago for my
83 300TD and while they were at first a bit tight they are just
fine now. I had to get the rear door seals direct from Mercedes
since no one else had them and they were no different in fit then
the URO ones on the front. Tight at first and now working good.
It takes about 6 months or so for them to bed in. Saw no
difference between Mercedes or after market. Used URO windshield
gasket also. The guy had the window in in about 10 minutes, by
himself. Guess I must be very lucky to have them work out right.
Need to have the sedan done ASAP before my luck runs out.

Sounds good to me. I could use a vacation. The door seals are
easy but I don't know if even the offer of a vacation is enough
to get me to do another roof seal. I'm still thinking of doing
them on the sedan and I'm putting it off at least till winter so
I don't melt down here. Which reminds me. After I got through
with the front seal I decided that the rear sunroof seal didn't
need to be done after all. Wonder what caused that? ;-) Frankly I
think as long as there isn't any wind noise then they really
don't need doing anyway. I will definitely do the little side
brush things. They are easy and quick and when the do start
coming apart the pieces tend to clog up the drains.

2013-07-28 Thread Curt Raymond
I was complaining about our slow internet. We've got DSL and its 1.5Mb/s which
is all thats offered. I took that because Comcast rapes you if you don't want
TV which we don't and they wanted a $200 setup fee to do absolutely nothing
which irritated me no end.

That said based on what I see on Exede's website I'd need at least the more
package because we watch a fair amount of video online and that would run more
than twice what we pay now. I'd like to have faster internet but not that
much...

what happens when you do?

Kaleb, and anyone else, which satellite provider are you using, and are
 you
still happy with them? My wifi based ISP has been having equipment and
routing issues for so long that I'm about ready to pull the plug on them.
If they don't provide decent service (what I'm paying for) after the
service call on Monday, I'm shopping for someone else.

Re: [MBZ] parts sources, again

2013-07-28 Thread Dan Penoff
I would agree. While I am a believer in forgiveness, I draw the line when
someone willfully steals from me. I never received all of the parts I ordered,
nor did I get a refund. When I attempted to do so promised were made, not
followed through with, then I was ignored. One could argue that it wasn't a
lot of money, but that's not the point - it's the principal that is at the core
of this whole situation. We placed our trust in Trent, he took advantage of
it, and now it's considered that we should this all aside and pick up as if
nothing ever happened?

The premise that we should do this for Rusty is a false one as well. Think of
the logic: We place our trust in someone who has stolen from us so that Rusty
can be made whole. Who is benefitting from this?

Since the credit card companies made good on the money he ran off with makes
him a'ok, right?

Not exactly the formula for ethical business practices. On other lists I
belong to this behavior gets you banned, and rightly so.

I'm sorry, but I think the whole thing stinks to high heaven and that Trent
should be banned. His actions were inexcusable.

Just my $0.02.

Dan

[MBZ] Hole in the roof, was: parts sources, again

2013-07-28 Thread OK Don
I think that the person who hoisted sunroofs off on all US destined cars is
evil. The best answer I've come up with so far is to TIG the things closed
and sealed. If I were to be preparing to repaint a car, that's what I'd do.

On Sun, Jul 28, 2013 at 11:47 AM, MG trainpain2...@aol.com wrote:

Sounds good to me. I could use a vacation. The door seals are easy but I
don't know if even the offer of a vacation is enough to get me to do
another roof seal. I'm still thinking of doing them on the sedan and I'm
putting it off at least till winter so I don't melt down here. Which
reminds me. After I got through with the front seal I decided that the rear
sunroof seal didn't need to be done after all. Wonder what caused that? ;-)
Frankly I think as long as there isn't any wind noise then they really
don't need doing anyway. I will definitely do the little side brush things.
They are easy and quick and when the do start coming apart the pieces tend
 to clog up the drains.

2013-07-28 Thread Dieselhead

He is a liar and a thief. I do not care what his issues are. There is
no assumption and no opinion in that, just facts:

Lies: took money with the promise to send goods in return.
Promised this multiple times to multiple people.

Thief: Took money from multiple people and did not send the goods
in return. Went dark -- phone, email, etc. and kept our money.

Liars and thieves are good at coming up with all kinds of explanations
for their behavior. I am pursuing criminal charges against him with the
local LE, let him and them and the banks/CC companies sort it out.
Y'all can join in if you wish.

I would agree. While I am a believer in forgiveness, I draw the line when
someone willfully steals from me. I never received all of the parts I
ordered, nor did I get a refund. When I attempted to do so promised were
made, not followed through with, then I was ignored. One could argue that
it wasn't a lot of money, but that's not the point - it's the principal
that is at the core of this whole situation. We placed our trust in Trent,
he took advantage of it, and now it's considered that we should this all
aside and pick up as if nothing ever happened?

The premise that we should do this for Rusty is a false one as well.
Think of the logic: We place our trust in someone who has stolen from us
so that Rusty can be made whole. Who is benefitting from this?

Since the credit card companies made good on the money he ran off with
makes him a'ok, right?

Not exactly the formula for ethical business practices. On other lists I
belong to this behavior gets you banned, and rightly so.

I'm sorry, but I think the whole thing stinks to high heaven and that
Trent should be banned. His actions were inexcusable.

Just my $0.02.

[MBZ] Trunk Triangle Source?

2013-07-28 Thread Dan Penoff
Looking for a trunk triangle for my S500 coupe (W140).

No, I'm not that hung up about the safety aspect, I just like the trunk lids a
lot better when they have the proper amount of weight in them. My other cars
got trunk triangles retrofitted to them, and it was amazing how much nicer the
trunk opening was compared to not having that extra mass on it.

Damned things fly open like they're going through the back window without the
triangle on them.

I think that the person who hoisted sunroofs off on all US destined cars is
evil. The best answer I've come up with so far is to TIG the things closed
and sealed. If I were to be preparing to repaint a car, that's what I'd
do.

Frankly I think as long as there isn't any wind noise then they really

They are easy and quick and when the do start coming apart the pieces

Buy from Gary if you want. Buy from Trent if you want. But Gary

Totally different situation, and one that I don't see a direct comparison with.

back on a recessed handle and the roof unlatched and slid in the desired
direction. You let go and it locked in place. No cranks, motors, or any of that

I miss selling all the folks on this list as well. I wish things had gone
better for Trent, I continue to offer any advice to him but he won't respond to
me. I have forgiven Gary for accepting 17k in my Amex deposits from web sales
at buyMBparts.biz that went into his buyMBparts.com checking account when we
first split, because my wife insists that I move forward and upward with my new
position at World Pac and get over the past. Well after 37 years of marriage
she knows a lot more than I do, so I am doing as she says. Keep Trent on the
list, he may turn this around, add Gary back, make them both behave. Don't buy
from Trent for me, buy from him for his service, same as Gary. I wish I could
sell everyone through World Pac but it just isn't to be. Good luck to all
finding a parts source, I personally would stick with the smaller guys like
Trent or Gary over the mega parts guys but that is just me. Adios my friends!

Did the hive-mind ever decide who was the best to go to for parts now?

Since this was the original question, this I will address.
I use Advance Auto for a lot of stuff now, with the over $75 free shipping and
online coupon codes, they are tough to beat. Mercedes parts are not
particularly plentiful though.
Rock Auto is good, but shipping can get you. Again, MB parts may not be
plentiful.
Autohaus AZ. My biggest problem with them is they ship from AZ, :) As an
example, look up this tracking number at UPS.
1Z8582860353036252
I have had very good luck (pricey though) at Carquest (WorldPac distributor)
locally.
I *may* try Gary, but his online prices are way high. Perhaps he will cut a
better price on the phone. I don't know.
I have successfully used Auto Parts Warehouse also.
I found a PA dealer that sells parts online, and has very competitive prices,
considering they are OEM parts, and have the Tri Star logo on them.

If you do the math, the keyboard work can be worth it. If twenty minutes of
work, shopping and price comparing can save twenty dollars, that is sixty bucks
an hour of after tax money. Considering a total tax bite of thirty percent
(FICA, Medicare, Federal, State, County taxes), that would equal over $85 an
hour before taxes. I am sure there are some here that may make more than that,
but that ain't bad money for comparison shopping.

In conclusion, it is a lot more work to buy parts now that Rusty has moved on.
If Gary can come close on price, that would save a bit of keyboard work.

circumstances where it would be understandable.

Not knowing what has happened, I will take a wait and see approach.

[MBZ] wasps everywhere

2013-07-28 Thread Allan Streib
I have not driven the 300D much this summer. In fact I have not driven
it at all for over a month. I need it while another car goes into the
shop, so I went out this afternoon to wash it and check it over... the
thing is infested with wasps in every crevice! In the door hinge
recesses, under the fuel filler cover, under the hood I've used
quite a bit of Raid and think I got them all.

He can write whatever he wants (it might be interesting to read, kinda like
watching that train wreck vid) and stay on the list for all i care, but nothing
will change the essential facts of what transpired.

I was driving all afternoon and thought about this a bit. When I placed my
order end of May, a young lady answered the phone and took the order. Polite
and professional and friendly, all in all a pleasant transaction. I believe she
answered when I called a coupla times to find out what was going on. He could
have given her a script to follow to share the magical mystery back then.
Waiting two months now to reemerge with some promised story (Worldpac ate my
orders?) begs questions, especially when he blew off Rusty too.

We all acted in good faith to help him get started and in thanks we all got
screwed. Nice.

QED.

Would someone tell the whole story of just what the hell happened with
Trent? Just once?

Seems Q2 crashed on takeoff and the wreckage has not been recovered, the
black box has not been found, and the NTSB report isn't even started. [To
put it all in aviation type terms.]

IMHO, it would be best coming from Trent. Seems the demand for parts still
exists, customers still need parts, business opportunity still exists. In

Paper or mud? The ones that build paper nest are the ones that
fight to defend their nests. At sundown is the time to get 'em.
They slow down, and are all on the nest. During the day, there is
always a few out and about.

Mud daubers are mostly just a nuisance and rarely attack.

To keep them away, use cypermethrin. They won't land on a sprayed
surface - at least for a while.
