When brushes go bad alternator/battery light will not come on. To
temporarily fix problem hit alternator with a broom stick, hammer handle,

The problem
I think the tail ends on the transmissions will need to be changed. The SD
if it is like mine uses electronic sensor on Speedometer while the 300D uses
a cable. Also the flex joints are different sizes so tail shaft has to be
changed.

I heard that the H block code on those diesels were the blocks that had
all the problems fix, but a little late to save the GM diesel program. Of
course the 6.2 and other GM diesels did not help things.

Does it cool on automatic if the wheel is to max cold? If so the internal
temp sensor is bad, thus it thinks the car is cold and will turn on heat.
When wheel is turn to max cold the control unit ignores internal temp
sensor.

I have know a lot of people to have IP problems with 6.2. Also most people
complain that it is under powered. But from the ones I have seen they are
not as bad as a 240.

recently
thought about the intake being plugged with carbon. Is the 617 known for
this? I don't think the intake has ever been off on the car.
BTW I just purchased a 560SEL to replace the 300SD but with gas prices
lately it may be a bad idea.

Tune radio to about 1000Khz AM station do you hear a loud hum that changes
with engine speed? If so you most likely have a bad diode in alternator.
Actually from your description this sounds like your problem.

I would love to have a W126 limo, with a 603 or 617 it would be a great
commuter car. Anyone know of a cheap one on east coast.

In the winter I mix a couple of gallons of gasoline to take of diesel on my
300SD this makes it start much easier and the gasoline helps kill the algae.
