Thats a Mk III car and it seems like they're designed to rust. They've got these like 4" round rubber plugs in the underbody. They rust around the edge and the plug falls out. Water gets into the carpet and accelerates the rust. I took some thin plastic and glued it over the holes on the inside

When I changed the motor mounts on Tex, (240D) The engine shock was dead one way and weak the other way. I expected total collapse, but did not order a replacement ahead of time. In the hunt around I did this seemed to be the best delivered price I could find. Anyone find a better deal?
