here is a solution to remove rootkit.

Re: how to get the library to search in winamp

2005-12-14 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi, Gary, up until winamp 5.11 I didn't, it would just automatically
search, which it is doing now, but I would have never thought to left
click on one of the catigories to bring up the list of stations, and
what I don't understand is why the search option in the library became
disabled. Now though, it doesn't make much difference, as the library
is pretty useless anyway, with only 1000 stations to choose from, most
of which, I've never heard of.

Hi all, it never occurred to me, but if your winamp library will not
search, try moving your mouse pointer to one of the catagories, and
left clicking, and then, your search results will be available. I
never thought of this, until somebody pointed this out on the winamp
for the blind list, and subsiquent to version 5.11, I never had to do
this, so it never occurred to me, so you will get at least 1000
stations in that search area, and you cannot increase that number as
nullsoft a o l has put a cap on the server to limit the number of
stations to search for, so I put mine at 1000 stations, and now, at
least, my library works, but why I never thought to left click until
somebody pointed it out, I'll never know.

Winamp 5.12 released

2005-12-09 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi all
Ok, there is yet another new version out, but do not let the version
number confuse you! This version is 5.12, where as the previous
version
was 5.112. *shrugs* I don't knoow how those guys at Nullsoft figure
out
their numbering conventions, but in either case, 5.12 is just out now.

There are some significant changes and bug fixes in this version,
nothing
that should mess with screenreaders though!

Here's the What's new.
Winamp 5.12
* New: [in_wm] Windows Media Video support (with DRM)
* New: [in_mp4] Support for HE-AAC MP4/M4A files
* Improved: lots of minor plugin improvements
* Improved: Visualization data calculations
* Improved: Significantly less playlist memory usage
* Improved: more multi-user improvements (almost there!)
* Improved: [installer] setup options, saved settings, codec
downloading
* Improved: [gen_ff] optimized skinning engine
* Improved: [out_disk] new features
* Improved: [in_cdda] playback/ripping with sonic engine
* Fixed: freezing when cancelling cd burn
* Fixed: video scaling bug (with modern skin scaling 100%)
* Fixed: minor installer bugs
* Fixed: freeze when loading classic skin with main window hidden
* Fixed: Visualizations for 24bit and 32bit songs
* Fixed: Advanced Title Formatting with Japanese, Chinese and Korean
metadata (thanks mrym)
* Fixed: [in_mp3] raw AAC VBR file seeking and bitrate reporting
* Fixed: [in_mp4] unicode metadata writing
* Fixed: [in_wm/in_dshow] mms:// streaming video playback
* Fixed: [in_cdda] audio cd bitrate display
* Fixed: [in_cdda] Sonic engine on 64bit windows (thanks STanger)
* Fixed: lots of small bugs ...
* Updated: Sonic CD Engine 2.2.50
* Updated: libmp4v2 1.4.1
* Updated: Coding Technology AAC+ Decoder 7.2.0

you can download it from

http://fileforum.betanews.com/sendfile/1066336873/1/winamp512_full.exe

Yep I know, originally I recommended that people get it from the Winamp

site, but several people e-mailed me off list and convinced me that not

everything on Beta news is all beta software, so it really is safe.
Just
install over the top of your current version, and if you encounter any
problems, back up your important bookmarks, and uninstall and then
re-install from scratch.
Thanks.

Re: Playing songs and music using Winamp

Hi, Terri, have you tried opening up preferences with control p,
pressing the home key to get to the top of the tree-view, and once
there, arrowing down to the file types branch of the tree-view? Once
you've done this, tab to a button that says all, and press the space
bar on this, and that way, winamp will play all the file types it can,
then, shift tab to the close button, and press the space bar to get out
of preferences, and see if that will force winamp to play your files.
The only way winamp won't play files, is if file types aren't assigned
to it.

0 stations in the winamp library

2005-11-21 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi all, I have tried writing the winamp list, and thus far, have gotten
no satisfactory response to this problem, and that is, that it seems
ever since version 5.11, or what ever version where they fixed the bug
with the winamp playlist editor, I can't get the library to search,
even though I go to media library, and shift tab to the tab control,
and locate the on line media tab, and examine the six items which are
all checked, and I even set the number of stations to 1 in the
modify preferences edit box, despite the nullsoft server cap of 1000
stations, and still, I can't get the library to search, I get a custom
control, and nothing else, until I alt tab, and back again, only to
realyze it hadn't searched for anything, and I even reinstalled version
5.112, but no go, and I even changed the number of stations to 1000,
and I even disabled kerio personal firewall, thinking that might be the
problem, but no, and so I'm frustrated as to why the media library
isn't searching for stations. I wonder if comcast is blocking a o l
ports, or something like that, though I doubt it, but I've done
everything I know to do, and still, ever since 5.11, I can't get the
library to search, and I wonder if there are any ideas people have,
this with winamp 5.112, windows 98 se, window-eyes 5.5 192 megs of ram,
and a 400 megs processor, and thanks in advance.

Hi, Gary, open up preferences with control p, and then, go to the top
of the tree-view with the home key to be safe, then press the letter m
until you hear winamp media library, then, shift tab, and you'll find a
four page tab control, it may be more or less in your version, but
right arrow over to on line media, and tab to a button that says modify
preferences, and press the space bar on this, and change it to what
ever you'd like though a o l has put a cap on their servers, so you'll
only get about 1000 stations, so I would change it to 1000, then tab to
the close button, and then the next time you launch the library with
alt l, it should try and fetch the thousand stations.

need more help with total recorder scheduler

2005-11-20 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi all, I am using total recorder scheduler with total recorder
standard version, and I want to start a recording at 1 pm this
afternoon, and end the recording at 3.03 this afternoon, so, lister
Dean, said that when he used time duration, that there were fewer key
strokes, but I found as many key strokes, when I have it on time
duration, but the description of the schedule is interactive at 13 for
four 03, and I don't want to record for four hours and three minutes,
yet, when I pressed edit to look what I had done, it looked correct, so
have I done anything incorrectly, or do I need to do something else? I
duplicated the steps discussed in an earlier message to the list, but
if using time duration, how will this mean fewer key strokes, and why
the vague descriptions regarding the radio buttons? Sorry for all the
questions, but everything is exactly as before, with as many key
strokes, so what, if anything, am I doing incorrectly? Thanks in
advance for any assistance.

Re: how to insure propper time from total recorder scheduler

Hi, Don, I have total recorder set to eliminate gaps in transmission in
the recording parameters dialog, and it is on software, as I want to
record a stream this afternoon at 1 pm, and Dean said that if you use
duration, there are fewer key strokes, but there seem to be as many in
duration mode as in absolute time.

more puzzlement with total recorder scheduler

2005-11-20 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi all, I have recorded the thing I want, but even though I had the
radio button on time duration, and had set total recorder to start
recording at 1 pm which it did, it didn't stop at 3.03 pm like I
wanted, in fact, if all indicators were correct, in terms of how the
schedule was set, it would have seemed that the recording would have
stopped at 4.04 pm, which I did not want, I wanted the recording to
start at 13 00, 00, and stop at 15 03 00 in order of how the combo
boxes go. Now, when I first started to play with total recorder
scheduler, a dialog came up about something not being configured, and
not knowing what it was, I dismissed it with the okay button, and
wonder if the scheduler needs to be configured, but I can't find any
menu's for that, just a system pull down with window-eyes, so what does
one need to do to insure that total recorder scheduler is working
propperly? I had to physically stop total recorder from recording what
I wanted, because the actual show was done, but the actual time on the
mp3 file was 148:54, and the actual show lasted for 119 minutes and 47
seconds, and I know my time was set correctly, so with total recorder
version 5.3, window-eyes 5.5, windows 98 se, 192 megs of ram, and a 400
megs processor, what have I been doing incorrectly? I know that
recordi source parameters is one of the things in the new schedule
dialog, but I don't want to change anything, because I have the prevent
gaps in transmission checked, and I have the convert using specified
parameters below check box checked, I have the lame encoder installed,
and I've told it to convert to mp3, so with all this, why aren't my
times matching up, first of all, and what is the difference between
time duration, and absolute time, because, I find it hard to believe
that a randum time for the file would be selected to record the file,
it has to know how long to record the file for, so what have I been
doing wrong, and what should be configured? I do have it delete
schedules when they're complete, and I deleted the one from today
because the recording was interrupted, and I have the check box
unchecked that says hide jobs, but can't think of anything else, naybe
a more close examination might be in order, but I can't figure out why
the times on my recordings never match up? Thanks in advance, and
sorry for being frustrated, but I know what I had put in those combo
boxes, namely, start time, Sunday, November 20, 2005 at 1 pm, or 13,
00, 00, in order of how those boxes go, then to end at 3.03 on the same
day, or 15, 03, 00 so what is going on?

how to insure propper time from total recorder scheduler

2005-11-19 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi all, I wanted to record something with total recorder scheduler, so
I set it up, but when I got back and checked the file that was supposed
to have been an hour long, it was only 52 minutes and 38 seconds long,
according to the jump to feature in winamp, so, first, is total
recorder scheduler inaccurate regarding the time it actually records
files, and if not, what am I doing incorrectly with 98 se? Here are
the steps I use to record with the scheduler. 1. I open up total
recorder, and press alt t, and then press enter on the scheduler
dialog.
2. I tab to the new button, and press enter, and tab amongst the radio
buttons, leaving them all at their default positions.
3. let's say I want to record something at 8 pm tonight, I tab past
the first 3 combo boxes indicating the year, month, and day.
4. I then tab one box over to the start time combo box, and arrow down
to 20, which stands for 8 pm, and tab to the other edit boxes, and
leave them on 00.
5. I tab past the check box that says stop time, which is already
checked, and in the next combo box, I choose 21 for 9 pm, and leave the
other 2 boxes at 00.
6. I tab to the radio button that says auto name, and move this to the
second radio button, which is this file, and then tab to the browse
button, and press the space bar, enter my file name, and tab to the
save button, and press the space bar, then, back in the main scheduler
screen, I tab to okay, and press the space bar, and start my stream.
When I had done all these steps before, Norton anti-virus did run at 8
pm, but I don't think that would have prevented total recorder from
recording the entire time of the scheduled event, so, what might I be
doing incorrectly? I know there's an absolute time and a duration set
of radio buttons, should something be done with these or what? I also
noticed, that if I pressed the now button, that the time in the combo
boxes got all messed up, so I left that alone, but is this normal for
the files to display incorrect time when being played back with winamp?
 I'm using total recorder 5.3, window-eyes 5.5, windows 98 se, 192 megs
of ram, and a 400 megs processor if any of this information helps.

Re: a program for converting real audio to mp3

2005-11-02 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi, Randy, try total recorder from
http://www.highcriteria.com
though there is no batch conversion, it will convert a .rm file to an
mp3 file, but you have to convert each of the files in real time.
Maybe another program like gold wave, or sound forge might offer batch
conversion. Total recorder has two versions, a standard version, and a
professional version. The standard version is $13, and is well worth
the money, but it does take getting use to.

tried to record with total recorder scheduler

2005-10-29 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi all, I tried to record with total recorder scheduler, and I
understood from this list that you had to have the stream going before
the recording could be made, well, I scheduled the time, and had the
stream going, but no file got recorded, instead, it said no signal, and
I don't know why it did that, seeing that kerio personal firewall
didn't come up and warn me about a connection, so, what might have I
done wrong? I did close total recorder, because I didn't know if it
had to be running, because ftp voyager doesn't need to be running for
its' scheduler to work, so I had total recorder scheduler start in ms
config, but when I checked what I thought was a file, there was none,
and, in the scheduler, it gave the name and location of the file, but
said, no signal, so what went wrong, because it was acting the way
total recorder usually does when winamp is started before a stream, by
not recording, yet, with standard edition, I was told I had to have the
stream up before total recorder could record the stream, and the radio
button was set to record the file, so is the trick to leave total
recorder running until the event is over, or will the scheduler take
care of things, because, total recorder did come up during the
scheduled time, but it was as if, the scheduler totally ignored the
part about recording the file I wanted. This with total recorder
version 5.3, window-eyes 5.5 beta2, windows 98 se, 192 megs of ram, and

Re: tried to record with total recorder scheduler

2005-10-29 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi Ann, I finally figured it out, because total recorder behaves the
way it does when you're making normal recordings, and by that I mean
that if a source like winamp or media player is started before total
recorder is, then, it won't record, because it sees a driver or
something like that, so, what I finally did was this, schedule the test
recording before a stream was started, and then leave total recorder
running, start the stream before the scheduled time, and then it
recorded the stream, because, in a sense, after you schedule a
recording with total recorder, it's as if, you're recording something,
even though you actually aren't, so now, I will use it to record at
least an hour of the antologias program from x e d x in Ensenada, if
they don't change the location of the stream for that station, as they
often do.
On Sat, 29 Oct 2005 18:24:13 -0400, Ann wrote:

Hi Marty,

This might be a long message, because many things might have happened to
cause this problem. I'm remembering why I switched from standard to Pro now
as it's easier to schedule stream recording with Pro, but still ...

Ok, let's see. If you were at your computer, and total recorder popped up
and you closed it during the time it was to record, it is possible you
inadvertently cancelled the recording by mistake when you closed the
program. The program does not, I think, automatically default to running in
your system tray when it is closed.

Or, it is possible the wrong recording source was selected, and that is why
there was no signal to be recorded. When you scheduled your recording, what
did you have set under the Recording Source Parameters dialogs, record
from Software or from the soundboard? Usually, if you are recording a
stream, the Software choice works quite well. The soundboard option lets you
select various sound sources such as a secondary soundcard, if you have one,
and various input sources from your soundcard such as the Line in,
microphone, etc. I'd open Total recorder, and then open the scheduler and
double check what is selected under Recording Source and Parameters, and try
using the Software option before playing around with Soundboard, and all
it's many choices.

Try playing with it a bit, and making some test recordings to get really
comfortable with the program before your next scheduled recording is to take
place. . Total recorder can take a bit of getting used to, and I missed a
couple of scheduled programs before I finally got mine completely
straightened out.

Feel free to write to me off list if you need any help.

~Ann

Hi, Gary, it turns out that the winamp site is messed up somehow,
because others are reporting a page not found error when sending in the
data from the user information dialog, and I did reinstall, but I now
know that was unnecessary, and lost some fine settings, but I can
always get those back, just some patience, but during the installation,
when you get to the end where the user information dialog is, just
check the box that says don't ask until next install, and press later,
and that won't bother you again, but I didn't know that, and
reinstalled, but at least, I've got winamp up and running again.

questions regarding total recorder scheduler

Hi all, I decided last night, to try total recorder scheduler out, and
I can figure most of it out, but I wanted just to record something once
for an hour, and so I found the radio buttons that said absolute and
duration, and left the radio button at the once setting, but I couldn't
find any place to add an url, so what am I doing wrong, with total
recorder 5.2, with window-eyes 5.5 beta2, windows 98 se, 192 megs of

because there was nothing about location of file to be recorded, or
even a browse button to select such.

Subject: questions regarding total recorder scheduler

Hi all, I decided last night, to try total recorder scheduler out, and
I can figure most of it out, but I wanted just to record something once
for an hour, and so I found the radio buttons that said absolute and
duration, and left the radio button at the once setting, but I couldn't
find any place to add an url, so what am I doing wrong, with total
 recorder 5.2, with window-eyes 5.5 beta2, windows 98 se, 192 megs of
ram, and a 400 megs processor. Thanks, but I eventually just gave up,
because there was nothing about location of file to be recorded, or
even a browse button to select such.

Re: Re: Recording streams and not software speech

2005-10-10 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi all, I have a question about recording streams with total recorder,
and that is, that I wish there were a way to start recording at a
certain place of either a stream, or an mp3 file, and it seems the only
way to do this is with the on board sound, but I tried recording with
on board sound, and got nothing, and the way total recorder is set up,
a stream can't be running before you start total recorder to record,
and I was wondering, if there was a way to change this, or, if there is
a program that will automatically convert on the fly to mp3 that will
let me do this. I can use mp3 clip, but on my system, it back tracks
about a half second from where I pause winamp, so, kind of like a
regular cassette recorder, I want to be able to start recording at a
particular point. I'm using total recorder 5.2, windows 98 se, 192
megs of ram, window-eyes 5.5 beta2, and a 400 megs processor if any of
this information helps.

phone numbers for themselves. Not entertainment players. But I remember
learning that some of the .mp3 players incorporate a recording function,
whether for just note taking or more serious use, I forget, one of which is
a model of Creative Labs called Nomad or something. A visit to their site

well I have a Panasonic and I have had it for about two years so I am sure
there new ones out now. I like it because it beeps to indicate that you have
completed a function. This one has two folders. The Olympus one at Costco
had six folders and that is too many. A blind person would never know which
folder is which. But two is fine. You will have to get a sighted person to
go over it with you and make some notes as to what the functions are and you
will have to practice with it but you will find it neat to make little
notes. Much better than a cassette recorder. It has a clock and you can just
ignore that part. Good luck finding one.

Re: Pc-audio Digest, Vol 19, Issue 8

2005-07-09 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi, Steve, try using the context menu while focused on the link and see
if that works, but I understand that jaws has a known problem where the
context of the page is given, rather than the context for the link, so
you may have to use the num pad context menu which is the second one
from the right on the top row of the num pad with the num lock off. If
you were using winamp, you could go to the registered file types dialog
and once there, you could locate the winamp media file type, tab to the
edit button, and press the space bar, and look for a check box that
says confirm before download, and check this box, and press okay twice
to get out of the dialog, but I think, you're using windows media
player, so I'm not sure where that entry is in the registered file
types, nor, do I know how to get there in windows xp, since I'm coming
at this from a windows 98 se, and window-eyes perspective.

 Well!

I can't for the life of me understand why the writer changed the
check/unchecked notification feature at all. It use to work just fine
 and
it did not do anything bad to the program so why bother with it. I
purchased the program back in early 2000/20001 and that original version
allowed you to just arrow up and down the list and it would let you know
which track was checked or unchecked. In fact, there was an option in
 the
settings area that asked you whether or not you wanted to use check boxes
or not. With this checked to yes ensured you would have this data read
 or
you could set things with checkboxes and know whether or not a track was
selected or not. The layout acts the same, so why not put it back. I
just can't understand why programmers feel they must tamper with things
that work. There is absolutely nothing improved in the program by making
 this info ungettable.

I would say to the programmer put it back and make the program better
 for
 us all.

RE: Total Recorder and Winamp

2005-06-18 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi, Tim, try launching total recorder first, then press control r for
record, and then try launching winamp, and see if that doesn't work.
Total recorder apparently sees winamp as another driver, or something
like that, and that's the way I've always done it with no problems.
On Sat, 18 Jun 2005 17:46:09 -0400, Tim Walsh wrote:

Susan,
Thanks. My output plugin already is set to Direct sound.

I'm getting the following error in Winamp when I try to launch the 128K
stream from WFMU.org:

Bad direct sound driver. Please install the proper driver or select another
device in configuration. Error 8878000a

Upon further investigation, I don't get the error if I unload Jaws before
launching the stream. , and the stream comes up fine. Before I installed
Total Recorder, I could run JAWS and stream simultaneously. BTW, I'm running
JAWS with Eloquence.

So I guess I need to get JAWS out of the way. Aside from unloading Jaws, am
I out of luck until I get my second soundcard?

Tim

Before deciding whether you need a registry patch, you might try changing
the output plugin from Wavout to Direct sound and see whether that allows
you to record successfully. From your message i wasn't sure if you were
having problems recording at all or if you are trying to filter out software

speech, two somewhat different issues. hth.

Lisa, it's total recorder. Go to highcriteria.com and download the
standard version of total recorder. In order to get it to work you'll
need to register it. And after you've downloaded it, write to
highcriteria and get a registration key and then register it in total
recorder and you should be set to go. But there's a tutorial on total
recorder on the ACB web site. Give a listen, and you'll know the
operating instructions on how to run it. I have it and it's really blind
friendly. You'll need the lame encoder to make it convert and record to
MP3 on the fly. And some one on this list should be able to give you the
address to get the lame encoder. Make sure you install it and set the bit
rate and to record in stereo or mono or else it won't record and convert
to MP3 properly. You can either record from sound board which is to
record from anything you plug in to your sound card. And software, which
will let it record from an internet stream. Hope this helps.
 Take care,
 Kevin

how can I do this with nero?

2005-05-08 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi all, I want to send a cd of music to somebody, and I had heard that
disc at once would cause there to be no gaps between cuts, because I
want one song to fade out, while the other song fades in, and when I
was playing with a ghetto box with a cd player in it, disk at once
didn't seem to work, when burning an audio cd, because the cuts still
had gaps between them, so what I did, was I made an mp3 of the music I
wanted, with the sqr soft cross fader, and the audio stocker plugin,
and the cuts blend together like a radio station, but since the mp3 is
only one track, they won't know the tracks they're listening to, and I
want it to be an audio cd, so I created a text file of all the songs,
and want to know, if I make a mixed cd, of audio and data, for the text
file, when they put the cd in the player, will it play, and can I have
the list of songs appear on the screen as the large 67 meg mp3 that
will be ten times its' size is playing, so they'll know what they're
listening to, or, is there a way to make an audio cd with individual
tracks, and have them act like the sqr cross fader, and fade out as one
starts like a radio station? This with window-eyes 5.0, and nero 6303,
192 megs of ram, and a 400 megs processor. Thanks, and I hope I'm
making sense, I haven't played with nero all that much.

Re: finding direct path to Windows audio stream

2005-05-07 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi, Steve, there are several ways to do this, one of them would be, if
the stream has a link on a web page, you could try using the context
menu, and arrowing down to save target as, and press enter, and you
should be able to save the .asx file that way, but if the extension is
a .asf file, it probably won't work after it is downloaded unless the
file extension is changed to .asx. Another way to do this is, while
the stream is up, and if the stream is not embeded, from the file menu,
you can arrow down to properties, and press enter, and tab to the url
location edit box, copy the url to the clip board, open up note pad,
paste the url in, and save the file with a .asx extension. Now, if the
streams generate money for the station that is streaming, this second
approach may stop generating revinue, at least, according to one person
streaming, it does, and they weren't very happy with this, so, I would
just try using the context menu to save target as, but you could also
try adding the url to your favorites in internet explorer with control
d, then locate the favorite, arrow up to properties, after pressing the
context menu key, and copying the url to the clip board, and pasting it
in the open url dialog of windows media player with control u. Sorry
for rambling on, but, these suggestions usually work for me.

Re: setting up total recorder

2005-03-13 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi, Joanne, first, go into the record source parameters dialog, and
make sure the radio button for software is checked, which it should be
by default, then, if you want to convert on the fly, check the check
box that says convert using specified parameters below, and then press
the change button, and pick mpeg3 from the 13 or so formats in the
combo box, and I choose 44,100 128 bit rate, and then after you get the
settings the way you want, you can press apply and okay. Then, go into
options from the file menu, by right arrowing, and then pressing enter,
and enter again on the settings dialog, and you should be in the system
tab, which should be one of 12, and first, tab to the two radio
buttons, and then select the bottom of the two, telling total recorder
only to run its' driver when the program runs. Then, check both the
check boxes that say use directly, press okay, and apply, and
everything should be set up. Then, tab to the mp3 tab, and in there,
you have to press the button to tell total recorder where to look for
the lame encoder, which should be in c:\program files\lame
and press open, and I think the .dll is the bottom file before you
press the open button. Then you should have total recorder set up,
just choose stereo from the radio buttons in that tab, and everything
should be fine.

Hi all, speaking of winamp, I don't necessarily care for the fact that
when playing any windows media content like .wma files, that you have

maybe that is a licensing issue, just something you have to get use to.

question regarding nero burning rom

2005-02-26 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi all, I have nero burning rom version 6303 from December, and what I
want to know is, after selecting continue multi-session disc, I want
the disc to show the new size of the cd, but instead, for example, if I
had 500 megs on the cd, and wanted to add mp3's totaling 63 mb, when
the disc is finished, it still has the original label on it, unlike
nero express, but it would say something like the spade colec e-cdrom
63mb, so how do I get it to show the new size of the disc? There are
four radio buttons, and by default, it is on the second of the four,
but do I need to change one of these radio buttons or what? The last
of these radio buttons says always, but there's no way to know what the
radio buttons actually do. Also, I had a disc that said it had 581 mb
on it, so I had some files, and wanted to add them to this disc, but
when I got to the burn part, it said I only had 98 megs available, and
if my understanding is correct, 581 and 109 is 690, so why did it say I
only had 98 megs available when I know I had at least 116 megs
available? I'm using window-eyes 5.0, 192 megs of ram windows 98 se,
and a 400 megs processor, and the disc still plays fine, but it seems
that it should be adding to the over all size of the disc, and not
replacing the size only with the newly added files, and this is with
nero burning rom version 6303 which I got in December. Thanks in
advance for any assistance.
The cdr's are tdk, and they should be 700 megs cd's.

Re: question regarding nero burning rom

2005-02-26 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi, rqj, regarding the four radio buttons that show up in the continue
multi-session disc, when I came to the radio buttons, and pressed f1,
window-eyes said no active application, but then I got a dialog that
said there is no help file associated with this topic, and the problem
I had with nero express, when I had it, was that when choosing to
continue a multi-session disc, not only would the disc label get
eraced, and revert back to my cd, but this thing about the cd only
showing the size of the disc in terms of the newly added files, so, if
you added an mp3 that said 5 mb, it would say my cd e cd rom, or what
ever your drive letter is, 5mb, and not add it to the actual size of
the disc. at least, the label doesn't get eraced, and in the labels
tab, I did move the combo box down to 31 characters, but don't know why
the disc would only show the size of the cd only in terms of the newly
added files, and not the total size of the disc.

Subject: question regarding nero burning rom

I use HJ Pad to read M3U files.
if you want to edit a mp3 tag, you can use winamp.
while in winamp, stop the music.
then press alt+3 on the top row. then use the tab key to move to the field
you want to edit. the press alt+U when done.

Subject: MPU and any other tracklists

 Hi
Is there anything definitive about creating and altering playlists?

I need to be able to change the text on some of the playlists I create
but they often go back to the original tags with their original names.
Also how can I print some of these playlists - I can't seem to get them
into a document that can print them.

I assume there must be some editor/printer but as I'm only new to this I
 can't find a way.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

2005-02-24 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi, Anders, what you have to do is once you get in to the volume
control, press the alt key, then arrow up to properties, and press
enter, and tab once, and you'll be on a set of two radio buttons, one
set says adjust for playback, and the other says adjust for record, and
make sure that you're on the bottom radio button, then tab to the list
view, and go through, and at least on my sb live value, what you hear
is the bottom in that list, make sure it is checked so you can adjust
it after you press the okay button.

RE: total recorder questions

2005-02-24 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi, Kevin, first, make sure in the record source parameters dialog,
that the radio button selected is software, and not sound board, or
what ever the second button is called, then, you will probably want to
convert on the fly to mp3, and to do this, check the check box that
says record using specified parameters below, and also check the check
box that says remove silent gaps, prevent internet transmission check
box, so that when your stream buffers, it will not be recorded. Then
tab to the change button, and press the space bar, and from the
formats, select mpeg3, and 56k is a good bit rate, then press apply,
and okay. Then, from the file menu, right arrow to options, and then
press enter, and then press enter again on the settings dialog, and in
the system tab, which is the tab in that ten page tab control on the
far left, tab to the radio buttons, and select the bottom one, which
tells total recorder only to run the driver when the program runs,
then, in that same tab, check both the use directly check boxes, for
recording and playback. There are some more things, and a good
tutorial is at
http://www.acbradio.org/archives/mainmenu/mm0883.mp3
which is about an hour long, and there are other tab controls covered,
but for recording, just start total recorder, and press control r, and
the focus will change, and you will hear it say something like stop
button, or how ever your screen reader is set up. Control p is the
stop command, and control u pauses the recording. Hope this
information helps, and incidently, you need to start recording before
you start your player of choice, or total recorder won't record.

Hi, Joanne, total recorder is very good, though I've not used their

to learn more. There is a standard version which is $13, and a
professional version which is $40. With the current version, 5.1, you
can record if the program isn't registered, but there will be a noise
inserted in to the program every minute, until you register the
program.

It is no big problem, as I know what and where they are on the main system.

I just got off of the Trend Micro House Call site. The House Call Active X

completely removed the two offending trogens.

Now for my question---

Is any one on these two lists or does any one know any one that is currently
using or has used Trend Micro's PC Cillen software?
I want to know anything that any one can tell me about these guys. I was
seriously impressed with how House Call found the two trogens. House Call is
a web-based Active X control, which tries to clean your system. Trend Micro
sells PC Cillen, and a host of other corporate virus products.

If any one has ever heard or used Trend Micro's PC Cillen, please respond.

Re: bookmarking an mp3 file

2005-01-11 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi, Howard, winamp will allow you to do this with the control j
command, which is the jump to time dialog. When you're listening to an
mp3, and you happen to be listening with winamp, just press control j,
and for example, if you've been listening to 30 minutes of a 60 minute
mp3, then just type
30:00
after pressing control j, and you'll be returned to the place where you
left off. To find out the relevant information, use your screen
reader's review cursor keys once you've entered the control j jump to
time dialog. The current version of winamp is version 5.08, and it
should be available from
http://www.whitestick.co.uk
and if that version isn't there, version 5.07 will be there. Hope this
helps. Also, note the colon between the 30 and the 00 in the above
example.

greedy to try and stop people from recording what they were only going

nero, and when I tried to play something in winamp, it kept giving me
an illegal operations message, and even when I tried playing a stream,
it did this, but when I re-booted, all was well, but here's the illegal
operations message, just hope that removing media 9 series from add
remove didn't take something from nero, or ahead software, as I fear it
did, but it shouldn't have, and I downloaded media 9 again from the
windows update site, and apparently, this update is an additional
player, or something like that, but windows media player 9 is back to
its' smiling self, just worried about the illegal operations messages
with winamp. Here is the message.

that illegal operations message that happened about 3 or 4 times

critical stop error with nero 6303

2004-12-17 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi all, first, after being told that the cereal number was illegal from
my nero express o e m version, I just purchased the regular cereal
number, but the people helping me, didn't know what to look for, and
they didn't even know things like what a colon looked like, so I may
have gotten the number wrong, and the first person that helped me
didn't see a cereal number on the cd, but it was on there twice, but
dully written. Now, I made four copies of four separate cd's, and kept
nero version 6303 open for all the copies, but at the end of the last
cd, when I had taken it out, I heard a critical stop sound, and I
couldn't alt tab, or anything, because I had lost my speech, and
control alt delete said it was something about msvcr messinger not
responding, but I closed everything, and though the last disc was
finalized, it wasn't full, and I had told nero to start new session
discs, so, I wonder what caused this critical stop error, and in the
future, would it have been wise to close nero to start each new copy of
another cd, or what? This, with the latest nero burning rom,
window-eyes 4.5sp4, 192 megs of ram, a 400 megs processor, and windows
98 se. Thanks, and though the discs were all burned successfully, that
critical stop error worries me.

Re: Irritating beeps with goldwave.

2004-12-16 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi, Jonathan, the current version of total recorder can be downloaded
from
http://www.highcriteria.com/download/tr50se.exe
but you'll have to register it for $12 or else, you'll get a noise
inserted into your recording every minute. I have found total recorder
very worth while, and it is very accessible both with jaws, and
window-eyes, which is what I use. If you're using a previous version
of total recorder, the registration key has changed, so you'll need to
get a new registration key, but other than that, it works great.

 Hello!
I have the latest version of goldwave and a couple of directx plugins from
sony.I think they come with the soundforge program i downloaded from dc++

 month ago.
Now when i try to use these directx plugins i get some irritating beeps

 FOr example.
I tried out the sony fx reverb and when i listened to my recording i hear
some strange beeps within the sound file.
I don't understand what i have done wrong here.
Maybe its because i only have a demo of goldwave or something like that.
 Any help is apreciated.

Re: Recording in stereo

2004-12-16 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi, Tom, go into the record parameters dialog of total recorder, and
tab to the change button, and press the space bar, and look for the set
of two radio buttons that says something like ogg vorbis stereo only,
which is the bottom of the two, and that should allow you to record in
stereo, plus, if I'm not mistaken, in the mp3 tab in options under
settings, there should be a couple of buttons in there to indicate
stereo or mono as well, let me look. The set of radio buttons in the
mp3 tab are for stereo, and joint stereo, so the ones in the change
dialog of record source parameters would tell total recorder to record
in stereo, just make sure the bottom one of those is selected.

is it an issue with my soundcard? I have a Crystall DWM; probably my
luck..I've got something that is incapable of recording stereo stuff..no

that we're just overlooking something. Then..there's also the issue with my

either 10 or 15 percent! Any ideas?

Hi, Amon, I also believe that the nullsoft disc writer plugin will also
do this, but it takes a bit longer to do, but I have done it before,

Re: Nero and playlists

2004-12-16 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi, Raul, if anybody knows, you probably may know this, and that is,
that I have an o e m version of nero express, and it is only nero
express, and not nero burning rom, and my problem is this. I can
create a compilation, and when I get to the burn screen, with
window-eyes 4.5sp4, there's a check box that says, allow files to be
added, multi-session, but if I check this box, and burn the cd, close
nero express, open it again, add a file I forgot, my original label
from the current recorder edit box is deleted, and when the cd is
burned again, with the added files, the cd drive shows the size of the
cd only in terms of the newly added file, so, not only are there
preferences for nero, but there are also settings for creating a new
cd, and specifically telling it how to handle sessions and such, but I
don't know how to get to these with nero express. I only see an 8 page
tab control under more options, and configure, but there's no session
tab, no labels tab to tell nero not to erace a label on an unfinalized
disc, and nothing to tell it, continue to fill the disc up until it is
full, and automatically finalize it, and apparently, nero burning rom
has all this, but this o e m version of nero express came with my sony
burner, so what can I do about this, I just thought I'd specifically
ask you, since you use window-eyes. Another friend of mine said that
nero express was the biggest piece of garbage he had ever seen, but
don't want to give up on this as long as I can, but find it very hard
to believe that nero express would not have all the options of nero
burning rom, even if laid out differently on the screen. This is on a
windows 98 se system with 192 megs of ram, and a 400 megs processor,
and I was also told that the sony cd burner was boarder line in terms
of my system requirements, and don't know if that would have anything
to do with this, since I close everything except window-eyes, and get
off line, before even starting to burn a cd. Thanks, and hope you guys
aren't tired of hearing this question repeated over and over in
different ways.

windows media player problem

2004-12-15 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi all, I have a problem with windows media player now, in that now,
when I press enter on any windows media player link, it wants to
install smart media juke box, and I don't want this, I just want to
hear streams with windows media player, so, how do I get windows media
player to come up again? I'm using window-eyes 4.5sp4, 192 megs of
ram, a 400 megs processor, and windows media player 9, but all I want
to do is have an old windows media player stream come up, and don't
want to install windows media player smart juke box, and have windows
media player be the default player for everything, as it indicates.
Even when I bring up a winamp stream, the non critical items in my
spyware program indicate that that a non critical windows media stream
was entered, so what do I do to get windows media player back? I am
also using windows98 se also which I forgot to mention earlier. Any
help would be appreciated.

problem with total recorder

2004-12-09 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi all, these two things may or may not be related, in that, I bought a
sony cd burner, and you're asking, what does a sony cd burner have to
do with total recorder, and I'll get to that. When the installer was
installing the cd burner, he said that it was boarder line, in terms of
my system requirements, and I wonder if this might be effecting total
recorder, because, I upgraded to total recorder 5.0, and tried to
record a stream, and I couldn't hear it, and when I record a stream, I
don't want any of my sounds from windows in mixed with the stream, so I
have the turn off system events assigned to sounds check box checked in
the system tab of total recorder, but when I found that I couldn't get
any sound, and I knew I could record with total recorder 4.5, I
downgraded, and tried recording again, and still, no sounds. It must
think that the stream is a system event, and I don't know how to get
around this. Now, when the installer said my system requirements were
boarder line for this sony cd burner, could those boarder line
requirements cause total recorder not to work? I've always had good
luck with total recorder, but even an audio stream would be separate
from the system sounds, and now, it records the stream, I just can't
hear it, until I play it back. so, how do I correct this, with
window-eyes 4.5 sp4, 192 megs of ram, and a 400 megs processor? I
thought that the boarder line requirements would only come into play
with the cd burner, but I would have everything shut down when burning,
except for window-eyes, and oh yes, I have windows 98 se, if that also
helps. Thanks in advance for any assistance you can give.

nero six express questions

2004-12-07 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi all, I believe I may have tried asking this question before, but got
no responses, so will try asking again. I just got a new sony cd
burner, which barely meets system requirements, but I have burned 4
cd's so far, but with nero express 6, not nero burning rom, because,
the burner came with nero express, when checking the check box that
says add to files, multi-session disk, if I want to add to a disk in
the future, how do I do it, so that the compilation won't just show the
disk size in terms of the new files that are added, and second, if I
make a label for the disk in the current recorder edit field, how do I
get that label not to be eraced? An example of these two questions
would be, let's say I have 500 megs on the disk, and, I am using some
old disks that only burn at 8x speed that I won a few years ago, and I
close nero express, and later, think of a file I want to add, when I
add the file, if, let's say the file is 11mb, when looking at the drive
for the cd rom, it will say, e cd rom disk, 11mb, though I know there
are more files than that on the disk, and it also says my disk, so, how
do I add to an existing disk without eracing the current label, and get
the current file size to show up on the disk? This, with nero express
6, window-eyes 4.5sp4, 192 megs of ram, and a 400 megs processor, and
thanks in advance for any help.

Hi, Gary, but this is with nero 5.5, not with nero express, it seems

several questions regarding nero express

2004-12-05 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi all, I just got a sony cd burner, which came with nero express, and
first, would like to know, in the final screen before pressing the burn
button, if the check box is checked that says allow multiple sessions,
if you wish to add files later, if, let's say the disk is only half
full, and in this case, these are old A C B radio interactive disks
that will only burn at 8x speed, and when I tried closing nero express,
and adding a file, though the disk compolation screen said it had about
500 megs on it, when I added the one file, and tried to label the disk,
it only showed the size of the file I added, so explorer said e cd rom,
11mb, and it said my disk, so, if you want to put more on a disk, how
can you keep it from eracing the original label, and also preserve the
integrity of the other files on the disk? The files were still there,
but it only showed the disk size in terms of the 11 mb file I added,
and how does one change this, or, is this a limitation of nero express?
Also, I tried adding another file, and it said it couldn't read the
disk, and I was of the impression that you could keep adding files
until the disk was filled up, so sorry for the long way around, as I'm
still nervous with this, never having had a burner, but what am I
missing? Hope my questions make sense.

Re: Alternative to total recorder?

2004-11-29 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi, Daniel, once total recorder is launched, go in to the file menu,
and then arrow over to options, and press enter on the settings dialog,
and the tab on the left, which is a tab control, is the system tab, and
there are 2 sets of radio buttons, or, maybe just two radio buttons,
it's been so long since I've had to go in there, but you want the radio
button that says something about the driver only being active when
total recorder is running, and once that radio button is checked, the
bottom of the two,, shift tab, and check the two boxes that say use
directly, and when these are checked, there should be only one item in
both the record and playback combo boxes, that should be your sound
card. These directions are with total recorder 4.5, so don't know how
much things have changed with 5.0, and oh, leave the check box checked
that says turn off system events, I believe it is the first check box
in the system tab.

Danielle,
If you go to the control panel, and multi media, do you have your soundcard
set as the preferred device?
And there is a chebox for use only preferred device.
This applies to recording as well as playback.

Hi Danielle,
Try leaving it set that way, and try using Skype.
You may have to close one program to use the other
It seems like there may be a setting that we are overlooking somewhere,
or the 2 programs may not be compatible.
It's hard to say, without being able to duplicate the same setup here.
I use total recorder, but not Skype.
Do you have both, or either program loading at startup?

What exactly do you mean by direct streams? I'm wondering if perhaps you
are under a misconception about what Total Recorder does. If you're
looking for a program to record, say, an MP3 stream off the Net and save
it as an exact duplicate of what was downloaded in MP3 with no quality
loss, Total Recorder will not do this for you.

Re: nero or cd burning question

2004-11-28 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi, mimi, the frustration is, that this disk I got in the mail is the
third disk where it either A., doesn't work, which happened with one of
the four disks, or, not all the files play on the disk, or, if they
start, they cut off, and I don't want to be in a position where I have
a disk where even 99 of the 100 files play fine, but the last one cuts
off, or, doesn't play when I press enter, because I'm still on the
list, and it is now apparent, that the person volunteering to help me
out, buys his cd's in bulk, and is content to throw ten of the disks in
a batch of 100 away, for example, but I have never had a cd burner, and
have no bench mark to compare things with, and so when the person says,
I'll burn you another, I'll burn you another, over and over again, I
have to ask, and sorry for the rant, but, how many disks do we go
through, before finding a good disk that's perfect? I am prepared, if
I have to, to spend about 50 cents a disk for a music cdr, and I
understand that tdk, memorex, and foogy are good, particularly tdk, but
this person, didn't tell me, until last Tuesday night, that he didn't
have the money to spend on premium disks that wouldn't fail, and while
that might be fine, I at least think that the quality of the disks
you're burning should be good enough, where, if they work on your
machine, they'll work on any machine that plays them, hope this is not
an unrealistic expectation, but when you've never had a disk not work,
you wonder.
On Sat, 27 Nov 2004 21:33:40 -0800, mimi wrote:

Marty, I have had CD's not play properly
and had to reburn the mp3 music on a
ifferent brand disc which works better.
The cheaper the disc, you lose data on
the cheaper ones after some time. There
is no setting I can find in Nero that
will fix this. When I disc does not
burn successfully, or completely, what
happens is you have some dead tracks,
and the dead disc is referred to in my
circle as a coaster. You can either
use it as a coaster or throw it away.
Some brands are much better than others
at holding our data. I'd stick with
Imation from Office Max or Regata from
Radio Shack. Something that is a more
reliable brand and will work every time.
The cheaper the disc, well, it's like
buying the cheapest cassette, and you
know what happens there: bad quality
sound and tapes very uneven in
recording.

Also, I have Nero set to play a trumpet
sound when a disc is burned successfuly;
a dragon when it is not. When the
dragon sounds, I just throw the disc
out, because I know there is nothing I
can do to fix it. You burn CDR's once.
Rewriteable discs, you can burn for a
limited amount of time. Some CDRW discs
I bought, I found some bad ones in the
pack, as well. There is no way for a
blind person to tell when a bad one's
coming up until it is burned. Yes, it's
annoying!

The other thing I had to do is slow my
burner speed down. 52x is too fast for
my processor. When I talked to someone
at Radio Shack about this, that's when
they told me this. I thought that could
be the trouble, but had to have someone
else confirm it. Radio Shack sells
computers, too. I guess you did not
know this. Also, if you are ever in the
market for a new computer in the future,
why not ring Excell here in Sacramento
about it when you're ready? They sell
computers to the Society for the Blind
here, and won't treat you like a dummy.
In fact, I am thinking of getting them
to fix me up with my next system. You
remember Excel, don't you? And, of
course, that's where Curt got his
computer. I'm sorry my answer baffles
you in some way, but I have to tell you
that not all CD's are created equal. I
stay away from real cheap ones, even if
the deal sounds good. I'd reather pay a
little more for good blank discs I can
rely on year after year. It's very
crucial to me.

nero or cd burning question

2004-11-27 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hello, list, somebody has volunteered to put my entire d drive of music
on to cd's, and he is using nero, but I don't know which version, but
I've noticed that some of the cd's don't work in my player. I got this
machine in 1999, and it came with a toshiba 40 speed cd rom, and one of
the questions he asked me was how fast my cd rom was, and I told him it
was 40 speed, but he is burning the mp3 cd's at 32 speed, but this is
the second cd he has sent me where either all the tracks don't work,
or, some of them don't play, so, is there a way to prevent this, as I
don't have a burner in this computer, or, is that just the nature of
cd's? I did have somebody else give me some cd's, and I never had this
problem with those cd's that the other friend burned for me, so is it
my burner, or, my friend's cd's, as they are not premium cd's, but cd's
he bought on rebate, so he has about 2000 of them, but if they're
inferior quality cd's might this have something to do with why all the
disks aren't working? Frankly, I'm afraid to deal with a computer
store, because, the store where I purchased this machine from seemed to
take the attitude that blindness equates to being dumb, and would like
an honest computer store, if I am to get a cd burner for this machine,
but, might there be settings in my friend's nero that he might change
to prevent this from happening in the future, because, theoretically,
if the cd's work in the machine where they're being burned, shouldn't
they work in all cd players, as long as they can play mp3's, and by
that I mean all cd players in pc's? Hope I've explained this good
enough, as I have never had a cd burner, and am still on windows 98 se,
and just want to know if there's a way to insure that if the cd's work
on my friend's machine, that they'll work on my machine as well?
Thanks in advance, for any assistance you can give.

From an article on the Betanews site:
Death Knell Sounds for Nullsoft, Winamp
 By
 Nate Mook
 , BetaNews
 November 10, 2004, 1:26 PM
The last members of the original Winamp team have said goodbye to AOL
 and
 the door
has all but shut on the Nullsoft era, BetaNews has learned.
Only a few employees remain to prop up the once-ubiquitous digital
 audio
 player with
minor updates, but no further improvements to Winamp are expected.
 \
Winamp's demise comes as no surprise to those close to the company who
 say
 the software
has been on life support since the resignation of Nullsoft founder and
 Winamp creator
 Justin Frankel last January.
The marriage of Nullsoft and AOL was always one of discontent. After
 AOL
 acquired
the small company in 1999 for around $100 million, the young team of
 Winamp developers
was assimilated into a strict corporate culture that begged for
 rebellion.
 Although
Nullsoft was initially given a long leash by AOL, It wasn't long until
 the
 two ideologies
 collided.
Frankel and his team were accustomed to simply brainstorming ideas over
 coffee and
bringing them to the masses without approval. So when Frankel and
 fellow
 Nullsoft
developer Tom Pepper devised a decentralized peer-to-peer file sharing
 system, dubbed
Gnutella, parent AOL was left in the dark.
 Gnutella was unveiled
in March 2000, much to the chagrin of an unprepared AOL; executives
 feared
 the program
would encourage copyright infringement and damage the company's pending
 merger with
Time Warner. AOL quickly clamped down on Gnutella, but not before the
 software's
source code leaked. Gnutella-based alternatives soon followed, igniting
 a
 peer-to-peer
land grab that has yet to subside.
But AOL knew it had to protect its investment and turn a profit from
 the
 freely available
Winamp. Frankel and crew found themselves in hot water numerous times,
 but
 always
escaped with little more than a proverbial slap on the wrist.
However, growing displeasure reached a boiling point with Nullsoft's
 unsanctioned
 release of WASTE
-- an encrypted file-sharing network -- in June 2003. Frankel
 threatened
 to resign
 after AOL
 removed WASTE
, but remained with the company long enough to finish Winamp 5.0.
Frankel's departure followed AOL layoffs and the closure of Nullsoft's
 San
 Francisco
 offices in December 2003.
With AOL struggling to stave off declining subscriber numbers and
 700 additional layoffs
planned for next month, the company's focus has shifted away from
 supporting acquisitions
 such as Winamp.
Despite the somber farewell, Nullsoft's former masterminds are proud of
 their accomplishments.
Winamp helped start a digital audio revolution and boasts an incredible
 60
 million
 users per month.
 After a disappointing
 Winamp3
, Nullsoft developers returned to the drawing board and completed
 long-standing goals
 with the release of
 Winamp 5.0
 in late 2003.
 Nullsoft's
 Shoutcast
, which pioneered audio streaming over the Internet, is called the
 Net's
 best secret
by its creator Tom Pepper and has reached 170,000 simultaneous users
 accounting for
70 million hours of listening each month.
For its part, AOL says it remains committed to Winamp, stating it is a
 thriving
product that AOL continues to support and will continue to support.
But without those who poured their heart and soul into building the
 software, Winamp
seems destined to meet a fate similar to fellow audio player
 Sonique
, after Lycos saw the departure of its development team. Sonique has
 stagnated for
years, and development ceased altogether last March.

You'll need two programs to play Real audio in Winamp, not just Real
Alternative. You need the Tara plug-in for Winamp as well as Real
Alternative. Download Tara from

 and Real Alternative from

Be sure that all versions of Real player are uninstalled from your

Re: Where's my microphone?

2004-11-03 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi, Doug, after going into the volume control, you have to press alt p
for properties, press enter, then check the radio button that says
adjust volume for playback, then tab to the list of things, and if you
want your mic to show in playback, just check that item with the space
bar, and press the okay button, and then when you open up your volume
control, when you tab, you'll see it there.
