I can't recall whether I needed to restart when I installed.
I know I've run across this in other situations. VM Fusion 2 was
working fine. I changed to Fusion 3 and lost internet connection.
Various discussion with VMWare did not help. But all was fine after a
restart.

For a long Applescript, one would do best to save it as a script file,
and call it by osascript scriptfile.

Applescript, but short scripts are usually easy to write and understand.

incompatible with my Squeezebox Radio but compatible with my Squeezebox

It's not an issue with the version of SqueezeBox Server, as I have just
upgraded to the release version of 7.4.1 and the problem persists.
Could it be an issue with Mac OS versions? I'm using 10.6.1, and perl
appears to be 5.10.0

One reason for using Alien is that occasionally I find programmes that
are available on Listen Again in AlienBBC but not in iPlayer.
It's a BBC issue, not an iPlayer one, as those same programmes can't be
downloaded to my computer using iPlayer Downloader.

I tried to post a log, but kept getting told there were images. I
couldn't see any, though there were urls with a .jpg reference

It seems to be one of those glitches that sometimes occurs.
I restarted and played a program with no trouble.
But perhaps it was defaulting to something other than faad, as the
stream you sent me opens up in iTunes but does not play any sound.

I don't agree. I am not sure if tubes59 is confused or if the
instructions are PC based.
SqueezeCenter has a preference pane, and one stops and starts the
server from there, without any need to reboot.

Restarting cured the problem.
But it would still be interesting to know what was going wrong.
There weren't any orphan mplayer processes, by the way.
