Hi! So I have had this installed for a long time, and it never worked well. It works after I reboot LMS, but quickly stops working. Sometimes it will also make my squeezebox reboot. I have LMS installed on a 18.04 Ubuntu server. I'm just curious as if there are some common errors easy to fix. If not, what other way is there to stream podcasts (from Pocket Casts) to my squeezebox? Hi! I have recently installed the Shairtune2 plugin (fork). It is working like a charm and i am able to stream from my iphone and iPad. However, my MacBook Pro (running High sierra) can not find the airplay devices created by shairtunes. (however i have elesewhere a shairport device running shairport 2.8.0 and it is usable from both the iPad and the macbook pro). Wondering what would be the best way to play airplay streams without FLAC. The reason why I'm trying to disable flac is to prevent some flickering/glitches noise while playing the airplay stream. I've tried removing the checkmark from "Use Flac for streaming" but the server is unable to play the track. Oh well. Yes, this is the right parameter and it's expected that below ~500ms shuttering happens. It's because the plugin has to build a buffer of the airplay frames. Such RTP frames are sent using UDP protocol, so no guaranteed delivery. There is a mechanism to ask again for missed frames, but it means that you must do buffering to give you a chance to ask for and received the missed ones because if you have a hole of 100 frames between say frame 900 and 1000 but you've already sent frame 1000 to LMS, then it's over because the interface with LMS is HTTP, so frame numbers do not exists, ordering is implicit by order of sending HTTP data. Anyway, you can also tweak the "buffer level" parameter which adjust buffering inside LMS this time. Normally it does not affect playback start in a deterministic way, but here it should because the source is hard realtime LMS 7.7, 7.8 and 7.9 - 5xRadio, 3xBoom, 4xDuet, 1xTouch, 1 SB2. Now working pretty well. Oddly the iPhone and iPad need a long press on the Airplay selection bar before it locks onto the Squeezebox. Is this normal? I've tried to install Shairtunes2 on my iMac as directed in your https://github.com/disaster123/shairport2_plugin/blob/master/README.md Followed all the steps and the plugin is showing in LMS 7.9.0 but no sign of the avahi-daemon and a log message shows that it isn't in the path. How should avahi be installed and have I missed anything? Needless to say, my iphone and ipad don't show any Squeezebox players in the Airplay list. My latest version of Shairtunes2W includes a "AirPlay latency" that you can play with, it's made for another purpose but it should affect the system the way you want. But again, understand that what you want to do cannot be achieve in a reliable way with the existing LMS interface. You'll get sometimes close, sometimes not. Ok, I understand what you're explaining regarding how the timing mechanism works, so why not allow a fixed value to by set somewhere in the plugin for the delay to be used. Yea, that's true. I only see what's in the protocol and what actions the server takes and all you need is in there but it might not be easily accessible from a plugin. That said ... it might be worthwhile to add some hooks to the sync code to enable this, would add a lot more flexibility when trying to become compatible with other players through all kinds of external source sync. (I mean, not as a SB receiver, but as a plugin, from the Perl side of things). But wait: LMS knows the playback latency of each player and can also control (change) timing by skipping samples or pausing so you should theoretically be able to determine the exact time when a sample is being played. If you cant report back a downstream latency to AirPlay that would mean you have tom skip a few ms at the beginning of playback but usually AirPlay itself induces quite a latency (2s for most devices) so that should not be a problem, shouldnt it? It's not the iOS timing that is out, it's due to the architecture of the whole system. In AirPlay, the device sending the content is able to control the exact timing of the playback device by exchanging NTP time and then basically telling "play this frame at that value of NTP". With that, you can imagine that's is easy to synchronize local video and remote audio, because the device knows, in its NTP time, when video frames are displayed, so it just has to tell the speaker when to play the related audio frame - just set a delay on video, and sync the audio device with that delay. Basically, AirPlay protocol is just a virtual cable, audio packets sends are timestamps using RTP, audio is send in realtime, not too fast, not too slow, synchronously. LMS works differenty. Audio packets are send using HTTP which obviously does not include any notion of timestamp. A whole file can be send in a few seconds and be played over minutes, audio transmission is asynchronous. LMS controls the timing of players by first querying their local time and then regularly asking player "how much have you played so far" and then it tell them, "skip a few ms" or "pause for a few ms". Shairtunes2 receives the AirPlay audio frames using RTP (synchronously), stores them in a buffer and makes them available to LMS players through HTTP. That's where the notion of time sync is lost and cannot be retrieved. AirPlay source wants to control when a frame is played, so for what you want to work, it would required LMS sync algorithm/time to be controlled by such AirPlay source. As LMS does not offer possibility, it cannot be done. The reverse, I've done that in my AirPlay bridge because it's possible to transform LMS commands into timestamps that the slave AirPlay audio device will use. That's why I was able to make sync as good as native SB devices, but not the reverse LMS 7.7, 7.8 and 7.9 - 5xRadio, 3xBoom, 4xDuet, 1xTouch, 1 SB2. I love this plugin, being able to play anything from my iDevices straight to my squeezeboxen. Is there a way to tweak the setup though so that the iDevice gets the correct audio delay info so that it will correctly delay video? If I airplay YouTube on my iPhone or iPad to my Yamaha AVR directly, even though the audio still takes a couple of seconds to start, the video is correctly delayed so that it remains in sync. If I target any of my LMS devices, the video starts straight away and the audio is then WAY behind, usually around 4-5 seconds. I've installed Shairtunes2 (fork) (v0.60.2) on LMS 7.75 running on a Win/XP box. My Macbook Air with OSX 10.11.6 and Itunes 12.6.1.25 reports both my Squeezeboxen SB3 Classics as devices. However when I play an Itunes file and select either SB3 as output speaker I get no sound on the SB3 and itunes displays a spinning circle until it times out and reports 'could not connect to SB3' Have I missed a simple step in my install? Your help much appreciated. I activated ShairTunes2 on my LMS server (v 7.9.0) and was able to see my four devices on my iPhone 6s at once. And, when I fired up Amazon Prime Music I was able to transfer playback to my device(s). Two of them are Duet receivers and two are Logitech internet radios. I tried first with a receiver, then with one of the radios. In both cases, the display on the Controller or the radio showed the music being played, but no sound played. After a brief interval (a few seconds) the display indicated that a connection timed out. Am I missing a step here? Any help would be appreciated. I am trying to install this on a libreelec LMS docker installation but when I enter the repo and submit from within LMS plugin settings, I get an error saying redirect exceeded. Libreelec does not have commands like apt get etc, so I cannot install the dependencies. Do you see any hope for me? So I tried and my Mac found all my players which is a first great start. When I selected one, on my player it says now playing "shairtunes Artist shairtunes title shairtunes album" but no music is actually playing. I am using ShairTunes2W and here is a log... I didn't open any ports on my windows computer which is where the LMS resides. Do I have to open 8000? When I selected one, on my player it says now playing "shairtunes Artist shairtunes title shairtunes album" but no music is actually playing. With 1 real SB player and virtual is fine, as soon as you add a 2nd real SB player it doesn't work.. quick check of the log looks like a buffer issue.. would you like a debug log? That's exactly what I do. I have an airplay speaker that I only use as a squeezebox player using your AirBridge plugin. I use iPeng to control them all. They are usually permanently synced as one giant group. I have 5 proper squeezebox players and two created using AirBridge. If I use music from LMS I can have all players including the AirBridge player within iPeng all synced and playing. However if I'm airplaying from my iPhone to LMS using sharertunes I can have all my proper squeezebox players playing in sync however as soon as I turn on the AirBridge generated player within LMS through iPeng then the system goes into meltdown and buffers every second. However if I have just one native player and the one AirBridge player then it works fine and in sync. However as soon as I turn on a second proper squeezebox player with the single AirBridge player then it goes into meltdown. So to recap. I am airplaying to my LMS using Shairtunes, all my players are synced in a group. All the native players play fine and in sync. I can have all 5 off them on and it's fine. However as soon as I turn on the AirBridge generated squeezebox player which is part of the sync'd group it then buffers constantly. If I then turn all my native players but leave just the one on with the one AirBridge player then it works fine. Any ideas? I hope that makes sense. It's really hard to explain. This is because Shairtunes helper does not feedback the AirPlay controller with timing information and I guess rebuffering happens because the controller got confused. The only option to sync AirPlay and SB is to use my other plugin, AirPlay bridge which turns devices to synchronizable SB devices. I never though about using it like this, but potentially, combined with ShairTunes2, you could create a group made of true SB and "virtual" SB (AirPlay) and then use Shairtunes2 to control one of the true SB of the group and everything should play in sync - it's goofy though :). Note that you must use one of the true SB device to control the group as virtual SB will not appear, again, as AirPlay device, for obvious "infinite loop" reason. I've published a version 0.36.0 on the Dev repository which is trying to solve the many rebuffering issues I'm observing on my system. I believe it's due to the fact that the shairtunes helper is trying to do its own buffering which in fact 'conflict' with what LMS does. LMS manages buffering for live streams to avoid gaps, so I just let air play stream act as an unbuffered stream (except when lost audio packet happen). Any. Hi Philippe. Around 3 weeks ago I tried the whole thing and everything was OK after first try. I now loaded your latest plugin version. I'm running 7.9 latest nightly under Ubuntu. I followed installation instructions. If I understood your comment correctly avahi is no longer needed. It seems though that the clients won't get announced properly. At least my iPad won't recognize them. I find below in the LMS log. That somehow suggests that the plugin still uses avahi!?!? Neither iTunes nor iOS devices will play anymore after that on my Squeezeboxes. Ist the WHS v1 Windows Setup. SBS Server Version is 7.9.0 - 1472021444 @ Sun Aug 28 04:05:37 CUT 2016. Hello, Has anyone successfully got this up and running on Synology DSM6? I've had a couple of stabs at it, but it's beyond my abilities. I have edited avahi configure to match the recommendations, but I feel like I need to replace the supplied avahi with another version and then I get lost in optware rabbit holes which leaves me completely confused. I'm eliminating from the list all virtual players that are created by one of my bridges (uPnP, Chromecast and AirPlay). Quick question. I have upgraded to the latest fork of shairtunes and I can cast well to my Radio and Touch, however my googlecast audio device does not show up on my iPhone as an airtunes device. Philippe_44.. Have you looked at the new Amazon Echo things? They look pretty good. I currently control everything via Domoticz and Homebridge. My LMS is controlled using iPeng. The Amazon echo would be handy if you just want some quick information. They also allow you to play music to bluetooth players. Now if I got one of these Echos it would be in my living room and so is my Raspberry Pi 3. Then realised the only thing missing at the moment is bluetooth connectivity. Would it be possible to modify one of your plugins to use the bluetooth on the pi 3 and then expose all the players as bluetooth players like you do with the shairtunes2 plugin and it would work in the same way? Philippe I had no idea you could AirPlay to multiple players from multiple devices I never tried it because the old shairtunes was only one at a time and no sync. I knew you fixed the sync but had no idea you had managed to get it that while one iPhone is AirPlaying to one radio that someone else could whip out their phone AirPlay to another radio!! I just had three iOS devices AirPlaying to 3 different radios, while another 4 radios played different songs from LMS library, 2 of them devices I had added today using AirPlay bridge and all played flawlessly with meta data. To think I was about to bin them and purchase Sonos because I was using Apple Music more than my LMS library. Now I don't have too! Great work mate. Not directly an iOS 10 issue, mines been working fine since the first beta back in June. I'm using mine on a Raspberry Pi 3. Second, I can see the original players and select them to play from my iphone but no sound plays and I get an error saying "connection reset by local host". I am not sure what to do from here, please advise any tips to get this working. I noticed my devices on IOS10 are unable to connect to my shairtunes2 airplay instances. I found this thread when looking for some new version that would perhaps work, and I uninstalled the previous plugin to install philippe's. Now the airplay devices don't show up at all. How can I troubleshoot this? I'm on ubuntu. I've restarted "avahi-daemon" and lms to no avail.
