Many thanks to all who replied to this thread. The solution was to Hide All nets as well as changing ALL polygons to 'no hatching'. This sped things up a great deal with no noticeable pause on R's and C's , however there are still pauses when dealing with a many pin devices. Hopefully this will

Most likely the improvement came from copying the ini and rcs files from your client's computers. This would remove inconsistancies and poor configuration choices that may have crept into your versions of these files. It is unlikely that messing with the registry would have made any difference.

I have my first occasion to translate a PADS v3.0 .asc file to protel pcb. Well, naturally it won't work for whatever reason. After an option dialog box, it attempts to translate and returns with 248 errors. Nothing is actually translated from what I can see. The error log seems to indicate

The rcs file defines the resources for a given server. These are the menu entries, toolbars, and keyboard shortcuts that appear in the Protel 99SE client application when the given server is active. When a new server is added, its rcs file (eg. advpcb.rcs, advsch.rcs, etc.) is read and combined

I have converted/ translated maybe 50 files by now up to version PADS 3.5 with little or no problems. Sure it isn't seamless but no electrical data has ever been lost, which is the most important issue with me. Silk screen, text, and pad stacks can get a little hosed up but they are easy
