Many thanks to all who replied to this thread. The solution was to Hide All
nets as well as changing ALL polygons to 'no hatching'. This sped things up
a great deal with no noticeable pause on R's and C's , however there are
still pauses when dealing with a many pin devices. Hopefully this will

Most likely the improvement came from copying the ini and rcs files from your
client's computers. This would remove inconsistancies and poor configuration
choices that may have crept into your versions of these files.
It is unlikely that messing with the registry would have made any difference.
Mike,
I used Diskeeper, and have it defrag on a daily basis when I'm not here. I
don't have any other ini and rcs files to copy.
The ini file is for the user settings, right? What's the rcs file for?

I have my first occasion to translate a PADS v3.0 .asc file to protel
pcb. Well, naturally it won't work for whatever reason.
After an option dialog box, it attempts to translate and returns with 248
errors. Nothing is actually translated from what I can see. The error log
seems to indicate
The rcs file defines the resources for a given server. These are the menu
entries, toolbars, and keyboard shortcuts that appear in the Protel 99SE
client application when the given server is active. When a new server is
added, its rcs file (eg. advpcb.rcs, advsch.rcs, etc.) is read and combined

The opj and dsn files are orcad project and schematic files respectively
It's been a while but I've translated fairly large (multiple gnd fill

That clarifies it and explains why a clean rcs file might have

If you want to import from the PADS v3.0 (DOS app), you need to import the
PADS .ASC (ASCII) file into Protel v3.X. Then you can save it as a Protel
file and bring it into 99SE or whatever.

I have converted/ translated maybe 50 files by now up to version PADS 3.5
with little or no problems. Sure it isn't seamless but no electrical data
has ever been lost, which is the most important issue with me. Silk
screen, text, and pad stacks can get a little hosed up but they are easy
Anyone,
Is there a way to import Tango .pcb into Protel 99SE? I tried to import it
as a DOS file without success. Does any of the earlier versions of Protel
import Tango?

You need to get a copy of PROTEL 2.8. There is no direct way to open the

Save the Tango PCB file as ASCII
Read the Tango ASCII file into PROTEL 2.8
Save the PROTEL 2.8 file as ASCII
Open the PROTEL 2.8 file in PROTEL99SE.
Your local PROTEL vendor should be willing
