I did the same thing. I downloaded the kindle from amazon about 2 weeks
ago. So far I have read 4 books. Even the books I have bought and added
to my library have run from $1.30 to $9.00 for the current best sellers.
You can also get some magazine as well. I think this is great, I can once
again read whatever I want. And again, the Kindle was FREE.

[QUAD-L] where is dana ?

2009-04-02 Thread LadyOnWheels725
Hi all,
I have been in the hospital for 5 weeks with bed sores,
sepsis, staph, strep, on going kidney infections with horrible bladder
spasms. Due to all of that going on I went through toxic dementia because my
body was not getting rid of the pain meds, or infections and that was a
living
hell of nightmares and not knowing anyone. They let me stay in my room
because I am a no code, and the nurses took turns sitting with me at night.
I was home about a month and started vomiting and my pain was way up there.
The ambulance took me to the hospital where I still had a kidney/bladder
infection. They also found out I have MRSA.
Home again, but just finished another round of meds, and I believe I have
another one.
Since I have been back on, I haven't seen any posting from Dana, and have
seen her on my buddy list. Does anyone know if anything is wrong ?

Contact the State Medicaid office,, not the regional office. When they give
you the extension number try durable equipment for your answers. They will
be able to see if Medicaid ever bought him a chair and the date it was
purchased. If they did buy it,,then it is his. If they didn't he can get a
new
chair fitted by a physical therapist and a provider.
Good luck and hope this helps.

Hi Danny,
I am in a bariatric revolving air mattress that has chambers that go up and
down. I was in the hospital for bed sores and was put into the large bed
that made it so much easier to be turned and propped up. When I got home I

Now every day my 2 year old grandson has to get in my bed to watch his tv

Several years ago we moved my bed right next to the king size bed that my

Re: [QUAD-L] Court: disability laws protect those unable to have sex

2008-07-26 Thread LadyOnWheels725
Hi all,
Unless it has changed in last couple of years, getting someone on
disability is not as easy as you may think.
It takes a paper trail with creditable medical evidence that has to show
proof that test , treatment, and types of medicine that you have been on .
Then you have to go to your pharmacy and get a print out for at least a year
to
show you have been taking it. Don't tell me you can't afford it and give
up ,Years ago before Medicare started helping, I was working through the
RXcompanies helping the honest people get their medicine..

You show a 10 year working history and people don't realize how
important this is. It could be very strong evidence on your case.
Let me try to clear up some of the things that people believe. Till about
1995 anyone who had the above evidence for alcohol, or drug use and could not
function did get on SSD . . New laws were passed and really shook up the
way people could get on. No longer could they receive a monthly check.
Their
cases were looked up and evidence gathered and hundreds lost their funds.
They have to show a primary illness that would meet the laws, and then the
alcohol / drugs might be on the application,It is true that a ( pickled
liver ) that show advanced stages might win.
Now about fat people..Their weight is a issue, but there is so much
more. How do they walk, breath ( sleep study ) , take care of their body.
ride, grocery shop, and take care of their homes and family. They often get
terrible rashes that leak fluid, and causes pain.
When you go before the administration law judge and the independent work
specialist you have to prove that the clients chart is complete of all
evidence .You question the client about the medical history and then the
work
history. I would have always made contact with the employer and would have
testimony that show about their job history and what it entailed. Then the
specialist would speak to the judges about his questions, and then I could go
on
and on, but I got off track so forgive my visit to the after years.

[QUAD-L] I remember when

2008-06-19 Thread LadyOnWheels725
Hi All,
So many of you have talked about boats and it has made me think fondly of
yesteryear.
We had purchased a very large ski boat about 3 years before I became a quad.
We loved going to the river to ski or pull 2 monster bertha's with myself
and the kids on them hollering and laughing. My husband and I would go alone
and picnic under a bridge and fish. Good alone time for us.
My family refused to go without me so the boat was staying on dry land and
my husband kept it clean and ready to go if I ever decided to try it. I can
not sit upright alone and I felt like even when they got me in the boat and
we hit a wave from another boat I would fall over.
A neighbor stopped by the house and wanted to buy it about 2 summers ago.
It is strange to see them drive by with the boat,, but I try to think that
they are making happy memories of their own.

I have pain there whenever I ride in the car , We have tried different
positioning without much relief. My usual pain is worse dead center down to
the crack. I call it my butt bone.
How many of you wear underwear ? I found this amusing . I haven't wore any

Hi all,
I'm so excited about what I just did a had to share it with you guys
because I know that you all will understand. I brewed myself a cup of coffee.
It's a really miserable rainy day out here and I came home alone, and I
wanted to have a cup of coffee. I poured water in the reservoir, I placed the
filter in the filter cup, I opened the coffee canister, I scooped out the
coffee,
put the scooped back in and put the lid back on, turned on the coffee maker
with a rocker switch, got out a mug for the coffee, poured coffee into the mug,
put in the sugar, opened the refrigerator to get out the creamer, poured the
creamer and returned back to the refrigerator, and enjoyed my cup of coffee
completely. Then I cleaned the coffee pot up, and I put it away. It was the
best damn coffee I ever had!
Just had to share it with you all, have a great day, everybody.

2007-05-28 Thread LadyOnWheels725
Hi,
It was so good to read that someone else has leaky legs. Mine started about
9 months ago after I had gotten Botox in my legs. I get the injections
every 3 months and it varies 35 to 45 sites. I bleed very easily so there is
2
nurses holding pressure and if needed a small bandage is put on. I started
feeling like my legs were wet before leaving the office and everyone said it
was a feeling left over by the shots, After getting home and in my bed you
could see the wet areas on my sheets ,not bad, but they were there.
Since then it happens after the shots every time, and sometimes in between.
It usually last 2-3 days. It was strange to read it today- for
no reason I seem to be leaking and I don't get my shots for 2 more weeks,
and I can hardly wait.
I got out of the hospital about a week ago because of lung mess and came
home to continue my treatments. A day or 2 later I kept telling my husband to
check my hips and move them around ,,,something was not right. He found
that I had the beginning of saddle sores on my rear..one for each side.
This
is the first time in 8 years to be going thru this and I bet with it getting
hotter it is going to be hard to get this well. and I had excellent help
while I was in the hospital so I don' think it was their fault.

Hi Joan,
You should ask the hospital if they have a charity program. We have filled
out applications and had them to write off the entire bill. This was
blessing before I was able to get on Medicare and the Medicaid waiver program.
The largest bill for me was $160,000. My husband has Medicare only. He can
go to any doctor in their clinics and they usually will tell him to fill out
a yearly application and they will take his Medicare. Thru the pain clinic
they will get his meds that aren't covered by Medicare from the drug
companies.
This saves about $1000.00 a month.
I hope some of this helps.

I have talked to several people about Lyrica and it has helped them. I
guess it depends on the person, the type pain you have and, your body's

If your pain is not controlled and a doctor suggested it to you, it might be

We have something in common.
Sunday will be my 8th year. It doesn't seem like that many years

guess it is how we look at them. I try to look at life in a positive
way,,no matter what is going on,,after all we are still alive, and being with
family.

My oldest son drove in this morning
traveling from Ft Wayneon his move to Lake Charles, La. We are
having all the kids over tonight and having gumbo. It is the first time we
have all been together in a year. I am wondering if they remember what the

We have often said that the dog could bust us for all the meds we keep in our

[QUAD-L] where else can the pain be

Sometimes I will ask my husband to apply
pressure here or rub there and I findout that I have told him the
wrong place. He says I wear him out before he even finds the
area that is hurting me. The pain from the nerves surprise me about
the location.
When I go to have the botox
injections in my legs we will mark my legs the night before. We have to do
a a few at a time because I loose the ability to know the exact pinpoint
area to shoot. My nerves in my legs are so fragile that the EMG
machine is not much help.
I think as we all get older we are going
to have to deal with all types of pain obstacles. I just don't know what
else it can be.

Hi Ron,
I had been taking neurotin
for 7 years and it had increased to 1200 mg 3x a day. My
neuropathy really covers me all over and I can take different muscle relaxers ,
pain pills, and botox shots
and still have pain.
My doctors had told me about lyrica and
it is the "new" miracle medicine that is suppose to work wonders. I have
been on it for 6 weeks and they have raised it once. I am taking 300 mg
2x a day and they say it can be increased a lot more. My baclofen
has also been increased to 20 mg 3x aday. Right now I am super
sensitive to touch. Bathing is horrible, I can't stand the feel of
the bath cloth and towel going up and down my skin. I am crying by the
time I am dressed. Then I have to take the pain pills.
The pain clinic is a new doctor to me and
he says if I will hang in there he believes that lyrica will solve my pain when
we find the right dose. I wish they could increase it
faster.

Hi Dan,
My pain had changed though the years and
it also changes with the seasons and weather. When I think about it
I never know what to expect day to day. I am just so thankful to
know that I woke up.
When I am sitting up I will usually do
ok. I can tilt/ recline and even in summer I might have a light
blanket on me--I have to use one in the car too. My body ' is all weird
,,and when I am cold I hurt. Some days when I am hurting in my ribs I do
have pain patches that I can wear, and that helps alot. My body rebels
when I am being put back in the bed. I have several spasms that
usually hits my legs and butt area. In about 30 minutes they are not
bad.
I sleep in a hospital bed with a special
mattress ,but it isn't a electric air mattress. My doctor has tried
in the past to get me one ,but I didn' t qualify for one because I didn't
have sores or ulcers. Pain doesn't mean anything. One day
those folks will learn about pain.

[QUAD-L] we all need to snuggle

2006-10-19 Thread LadyOnWheels725

Hi Silas,
You might consider getting a
bariatric hospital bed. I think you have to meet certain weight
requirementsfor Medicare / Medicaid to pay for it. I was
put in one following some surgery 2 years ago and I loved it. When I
was moved back to the regular floor I requested to have a " big boys bed"
. My husband snuggled in the bed with me and we watched the super
bowl . I was able be turned so easy, and I could put all kinds of my
"stuff" in the bed with me.
There was so much room that I didn't feel
like I was in a hospital bed. Here at home my bed is bumped up by my
husbands king size bed and if I had the space I would get a larger
bed.
Even if you had to pay out of your own
pocket I think it would be worth it.

I am wishing you great success on your
baclofen pump surgery. I hope this is the miracle that your body needs to
find peace within itself in order to relax.
I have had this presented to
me on 2 past occasions to be decided against when my " team
" of doctors would talk in2000. My pulmonary and neurologist
that have been writing all my meds including my pain meds decided I needed
additional help ,, probably stronger narcotics. All doctors
now are so scared of being investigated and accused aboutwriting meds that
are not medically needed that they want to cover their butts. So I was
sent last week to the pain clinic. The doctor was very nice,
BUT as soon as he walked in,,he looked at me in my chair,,how long have you not
been unable to walk,,well, I think I can help your pain,, You need a pump,
but first I need to order your records. The man did not ask me where my pain was
and did not lay a hand on me. This doctoris head of the clinic
and is the great one every one loves., but it concerned me greatly that he
was not worried about my over all health issues and
complications,
H e said he would order my records and
could do the surgery without putting me asleep and laughed when I told him
my breathing is very fragile and I was on a bi-pap and I could not
be approved to have my wrist or ankles released. It was not approved
because it was not a medical emergency and I was too high of a risk for
complication. He said he would guarantee he could get me off a ventilator
after surgery. He did write a RX increase on my baclofen, but
so far I have not seen a difference.
I am very interested in hearing about
your surgery from beginning to ongoing. I know it was a big decision for
you and maybe it will help ,me make up mine.
Good luck and a speedy

Judge what makes someone disabled and in need of parking in a disabled

when I was.
Disability and parking in a handicap
parking place does not mean you have to be in a chair. Granted you are
suppose to have the license tag and the signed form from your doctor in
your car. They could be having a short term disability from surgery,

  Subject:
  FW: Car theft - IMPORTANT!!

Here is info worth the price of your car. WHAT WILL
  THEY THINK OF NEXT?

Seems that car thieves have found yet another way to
  steal your car or

truck without any effort at all.

The car thieves peer through the windshield of your
  car or truck, write

down the VIN # from the label on the dash, go to the
  local car

dealership and request a duplicate key based on the
  VIN #.

My friend didn't believe this e-mail, so she called
  Chrysler-Dodge and

pretended she had lost her keys. They
told her to just bring in the VIN

#, and they would cut her one on the spot, and she
  could order the

  keyless device if she wanted.

The Car Dealers Parts Department will make a
  duplicate key from the VIN

  #, and collect payment from
the thief who will return to your

  car.

He doesn't have to break in, do any damage to the
  vehicle, or draw

attention to himself. All he has to do is
walk up to your car, insert

the key and off he goes to a local Chop Shop with
  your vehicle.You

  don't believe it?

  It IS that easy.

To avoid this from happening to you, simply put some
  tape (electrical

tape, duct tape or medical tape) across the VIN
  Metal Label located on

the dash board. By law, you cannot remove the VIN,
  but you can cover it

so it can't be viewed through the windshield by a
  car thief.I urge you

to forward this to your friends before some other
  car thief steals

  another car or truck.I slipped a 3 x 5
  card over the VIN NUMBER.

OKAY, MAYBE YOU DON'T DRIVE. IN THAT CASE PASS THIS
  INFORMATION ON TO

  ALL YOUR FRIENDS.

Even with the Botox, muscle
relaxers, neurotin, and others I still have muscle spasms. They are
worse after I have been up in my chair all day and I am getting back in my
bed. I always take meds before getting back in bed because I know when I
start being turned the spasms will begin. Lately it has been worse in the
back of my left leg which I can't do much about. Once I am in the bed I
can put on my compression boots that massage my muscles that REALLY help my legs
and feet. I was told that Medicare and Medicaid wouldn't pay for these but they
did. It might be because I am on the waiver program. It buys my
diapers, and some things my PT and PT wanted me to have at home.
My doctors understand the pain I am in
since it does show up on the EMG test and you can see and feel the spasms.
I do have pain meds for simple to severe pain. I very, very seldom take the
strong meds, because I choose to cope with it than medicate with the meds that
limit me.

2006-03-27 Thread LadyOnWheels725

Hi,
I have been taking Botox
injections in my legs for the past 5 years. I get them below the knees and
they locate the areas to inject with a EMG machine. When I began the shots
they also tried dyna-splints on my legs - they thought they would
hold my legs straight and slow the curve in my left foot. The splint
was causingmorepain so I stopped them.
I get the shot as often as
I can which is ever 3 months and I get the maximum dose which equals out to 14
shots total per session. To really help the bad spasm the have to go to
the deep muscle and sometimes it is next to the bone and that does cause a
little bleeding, but I do bruise. My left foot is turned so bad the doctor
will shoot my ankle and instep and it will release within hours. The bad
part of all of this is it just won't last long enough. Within 6-8 weeks it
isall back the same way.
I also take Neurotin 600 mg
3x a day, robaxin 500mg. every 4 hrs, pain patches, and a bag full of
others.
Hope this answers some of
your questions.

It can be hard to do. How quick can you get the door closed behind you? You need to be quick as cats really don't listen to anything you have to say if they want out they will jump over you. Best solution is to let them outside, they come back and it will saves a little on cat litter.

A leash a cat, h!!! Never tried it. There is no way any cat I ever had would let me do that but I've heard it can be done.

Good luck

2005-09-20 Thread LadyOnWheels725

I have the same problem
with swelling in my legs. I have taken lasix for years to help me to
tinkle it out, but it was far from solving the problem..
Following surgery last year
the doctor ordered compression boots for my legs. They are nothing like
the stockings. They helped so much in such a short time, that I couldn't
believe they hadn't been ordered before.
The social worker said
Medicare and/or Medicaid would not pay for them at home,, even if you had a
history of blood clots. ( which I didn't,,I was just interested. ) I told
them to get me a doctor order and let me see what I could do. I am on the
medicaid waiver and they will approve items that sometimes are not. In 2
months I have the compressionboots and the pump and it has been so
wonderful. They have helped my swelling and pain.

I do the same thing you and
Greg do with temperature changes.
I never feel hot when
I am outside, even if it is 100 degrees. I can tell it would be hot for
others,,,but it doesn't register that way for me. I have to rely on others
to tell me my skin is turning red, or I need to go in. But if I am on the
inside and start having a "hot flash" I feel like I am out in the sun and burning
up. Sometimes the burning and itching gets so bad I have to take benadryl
and that makes it so much better.
I cannot stand the cold
anytime of the year. It is so painful that I don't even want to
move. I have a lap blanket anytime I ride in the car or go grocery
shopping. I go to Sams with sweater on and a lap blanket on my legs so I
can go around the meat and freezers and before I go outside I have to peel off
the layers.

the end of my bed, and it came downhill on me.
The next couple of days
reminded me how much that he does for me not ever day, or not ever hour,
but through the day. Most of it goes unsaid or planned out on my part - it
is just now part of my life. It is a fine line for so many of us that
reside at home and not in a nursing home.
After reading so many of
the post,I realize that I am blessed more than some. I am on a medicaid

Hi Gina,
Thereare several questions that come
to mind here. Have you just begun drawing your own social security ? Once
a adult receives approval and they are going to being drawing (money that is
based on their work history "credit" ), then a application for any
children can then be processed. Where and whomever takes care of that
child is where the money goes, and they are responsible for accountability of
those funds. If the parents are divorced or a single parent then it is whoever
is guardian. At least these were the rules as i understood them 3 years
back. Hope this helps/

Lori,
We seem to be having similar luck. I am
starting my 4th uti since early december. I was in the hospital when the
first began on iv antibiotics for other health problems. There is no doubt the
infection is there because the urine turns red, and I have all the symptoms you
mentioned, usually following the discolored urine.
I had been on home health and they were here on
friday and they haddischarged me. I went to the front door and
was going to stop, and look outbut my chair kept going forward and
then went down the ramp. I told my husband behind me that I didn't
mean to go down and he saw the right arm of my chair was falling backwards
and as it did my grip caused the joystick to press forward and I ended up turned
up in the shrubs trapped between them and the rock work. My left side is
badly bruised and having a heck of a time with spasms. I got a whip
lash type injury when I came out of the shrubs. Oh, by the why, I was
admitted back to home health today.
It is a terrible, humble feeling when you are
grounded due to illness, and to know you don't have a wheelchair you can get

By chance do any of you watch the tv show House
Hunters on the Discovery Channel. Just about all of the people want to
have a office or a area where they can work from home. Many times they
have said this is how they make there living, but few times they share how
they earn it. Others useit as extensions to their outside jobs, and
family affair.
All over the internet there is scams about
working from home, and I just steer clear from all of that. Most of them
want money that lead nowhere and it is a good way to pick up a virus.

If any of you do work at home using your
computer, and consider it your job, and consider it as something other of us
might do, please share the information, I feel like there is opportunity there,

HI
Smurf,
Sorry it has taken me a few
days to get back to you and the others that had some questions, but right after
posting, I came down with a heck of kidney infection. Why is it with us that when
we go in with one problem we can end up with a kidney problem in the end ??
After suffering through bactrum and cranberry juice is it finally getting
better.
Over the past 2 years I
have had 7 rounds of botox injections in both legs. The first 2 were
very painful and I wore dynasplints on both legs and the splints were nothing
but torture.
I changed doctors and
he also changed my medications that was helping my pain so I agreed to attempt
Botox again.I was wearing lidocaide patches on my legs for pain
control andit did seem to help, so when he did the botox injection he
added lidocaine . He was concerned about my legs because he couldn't get
any reaction on the emg, so he was having trouble finding active
nerve activity. The last session I went in he said he wanted to take
a pen and make points whereI told him I hurt and he would shoot deep
trigger points. He injected very deep areas. I was told I didn't
want to see the needle. I had no relief at all from that session.I
am very glad I tried , botoxbecause I did get some relieve at times, will
I go through it again, I don't think so. When I was in the hospital they
put pneumatic compression boots on me that felt like I was getting a gentle
massage. For the first time, it made my legs feel soft and removed pain, but the
bummer is they cost on the low end $800 neither Medicare or Medicaid pays
for it. I have read where it says Medicare will, but 2 representatives
says no. I have located where , it should have been approved 2001,
so I am not through discussing it. If I decide to buy it I will go
directly yo the company and not the area corner store to cut out the middle
man.

correct breathing and only breath from partial parts of my right right lower

to the dentist he would be unable to perform the work because my gums would not
sedate, so the pain would be horrid, and I am a chicken when it would come to

2004-12-05 Thread LadyOnWheels725

---BeginMessage---

AN ATTORNEY'S ADVICERead this and make a copy for your files in case you need to refer to it someday. Maybe we should all takesome of his advice!A corporate attorney sent the following out to the employees in his company.1. The next time you order checks have only your initials (instead of first name) and last name put on them. If someone takes your checkbook they will not know if you sign your checks with just your initials or your first name but your bank will know how you sign your checks.2. When you are writing checks to pay on your credit card accounts, DO NOT put the complete account number on the "For" line. Instead, just put the last four numbers. The credit card company knows the rest of the number and anyone who might be handling your check asit passes through all the check processing channels won't have access to it.3. Put yo!
ur work phone # on your checks instead of your home phone. If you have a PO Box use that instead of your home address. If you do not have a PO Box, use your work address. Never have your SS# printed on yourchecks. (DUH!) You can add it if it is necessary. But if you have it printed, anyone can get it.4. Place the contents of your wallet on a photocopy machine, do both sides of each license, credit card, etc. You will know what you had in your wallet and all of the account numbers and phone numbers to call andcancel. Keep the photocopy in a safe place. I also carry a photocopy of my passport when I travel either here or abroad. We've all heard horror stories about fraud that's committed on us in stealing a name, address, Social Security number, credit cards, etc.Unfortunately I, an attorney, have firsthand knowledge because my wallet was stolen last month. Within a!
week, the thieve(s) ordered an expensive monthly cell!

ackage, applied for a VISA credit card, had a credit line approved to buy a Gateway computer, received a PIN number from DMV to change my driving record information online, and more. But here's some critical information to limit thedamage in case this happens to you or someone you know:1. We have been told we should cancel our credit cards immediately. But the key is having the toll free numbers and your card numbers handy so you know whom to call. Keep those where you can find them 2. File a police report immediately in thejurisdiction where it was stolen, this proves tocredit providers you were diligent, and is a first step toward an investigation (if there ever is one). But here's what is perhaps most important: (I never even thought to do this).3. Call the three national credit reportingorganizations immediately to place a fraud alert on your name and Social Security number. I had never heard of doing that until advised by a bank that called to tell me anapplication for credit was made over the Internet in my name. The alert means any company that checks your credit knows your information was stolen and they haveto contact you by phone to authorize new credit.By the time I was advised to do this, almost two weeks after the theft, all the damage had been done. There are records of all the credit checks initiated by the thieves' purchases, none of which I knew about before placing the alert. Since then, no additional damage has been done, and the thieves threw my wallet awaythis weekend (someone turned it in). It seems to have stopped them in their tracks. The numbers are:Equifax: 1-800-525-6285 Experian (formerly TRW): 1-888-397-3742Trans Union: 1-800-680-7289 Social Security Administration (fraud !

I am glad to find a soul mate. I am 47 residing in a

I have tried to explain the coldness that I feel inside and out. All
summer I enjoyed the southern temperture and no one could believe me. When
I would come into the air conditioned house, I would go into a chill and would
have to be covered immediately.
When I get up every day I wear I shawl that I got at Wal-mart that
I keep around my shoulders that I can completely cover up my arms when I need to
in the house, in the yard, and especially, in the car, and the GROCERY STORE,
boy do I freeze there. Its just something you cannot
explain.
Something else that has changed for me is my appetite and the type
if food that I eat. Don't get the wrong idea here. I need to loose a
load of weight, so starving is not going on here. Its mostly my husband and me
here now, and we have a freezer full of summer fresh vegetables and when I make
a choice it will usually be something from there. I have started not
wanting to eat at "correct" meal time and eating what we would consider or
"usual" meals. We are doing a snack or a mini meal, just cannot decide on what
sound "good" to me/

It was our dream that when we retired to own our cabin in the moutain, needless to say that money went through our finger tips like water in those streams.
