The installer seems to be a bit stupid.
If not done yet: Try uninstalling java, deleting ALL java folders
(perform a search for "java" (without the quotes) including system and
hidden files/folders (enable them in the folder-options and make sure to
select advanced in the search!), then re-install java to a *non-default*
path (any change will do).

That should (hopefully) wipe out all problems.

Sorry if my post is inappropriate, I'm just very upset right now
because even after doing all I can do J6-U14 is still bullying me.

In the SeaMonkey browswer I've gone to edit -> preferences -> advanced
and I have the "enable Java" box checked.

I still keep getting the same old "Click here to go the plugin"
message whenever I visit a site that uses Java. I wish I could bring
J6-U14 into living existence and burn it alive eternally. If J6-U14
were a living thing with tactile sensations, I'd do exactly that to it.

Simple: click on
news://news.mozilla.org/mozilla.support.seamonkey

That will add this group to your news. You should then see:
'news.mozilla.org' underneath your email account, click on the right
triangle to expand (just as you would your email account to expand the
folders), you'll then see the mozilla.support.seamonkey folder, right
click that and click 'Open in New Mail Window'[1]. You now have access
to this newsgroup via your newsreader (nntp). You can then view & reply
to messages in the group. When you reply to a post, simply click
'Reply', do not select 'Reply All', compose your reply (please trim
posts when needed) and click 'Send'.

After you become used to reading/posting via the newsgroup, you can then
unsubscribe from the mailing list/archive if you wish.

[1] It's not necessary to 'Open in New Mail Window', but it simply makes
it easier to have one window for email and another for newgroups. If you
prefer, just click 'mozilla.support.seamonkey' and it will stay within
your original email window.

I don't know how to do what you're suggesting. I signed up to the group
and requested a daily digest due to the large number of emails I
receive. I have been manually adding the subject [as I did with this
message] in the belief/hope that that would place it in the right thread.

The page you reference has a ton of info. I haven't read it all but if
there's specific parts I can read to make my messages fit better with
the format here I would appreciate a hint.

At present I don't even remember the link to the page where it's
possible to reply or post directly without replying to the list, as I'm
doing here.

This digest arrives as a single text document for some reason that I do
not understand or know how to adjust. I receive many Yahoo groups and
somehow this one is listed in my Yahoo groups too, although I didn't
think Yahoo had anything to do with it. There is ONE Yahoo group where
the entire digest comes through exactly like this one [a single text
document], but I have no clue as to why or how to fix it. I'm not
literate with things like newsgroups. All of the other groups have a
reply option at the bottom of each message which puts the reply in the
right thread [I think].

If someone will be kind enough to point me to the URL where I can reply
directly to individual messages I'll take a look at that.

I forget to specify, that when visiting the java test page, I get that
stubborn "Click here to go the plugin" message. When I click it, a
"Plug-in Not Loaded" dialog-box pops up. In that dialog box, it
states:

"Information on this page requires a plug-in for:

   application/x-java-xm

You can retrieve the plug-in from:

Plug-in Finger page

To retrieve the plug-in now, click the Get the Plug-in button and
then select the plug-in you need from the page that appears."

Below the above statements are two buttons -- "Get the Plug-in" and
"Cancel"

If I click the "Get the Plug-in" it takes me to a page to download
what I've already downloaded and installed -- J6-U14

This is so annoying!

Thanks for all responses.

I just installed SeaMonkey 1.1.17. I then un-installed Java 6 Update
14 and then re-installed it.

Then I followed the directions you gave me. Unfortunately, I still get
the same problem on their test page.

Also, in the "Default Java for browsers" icon, I checked "Mozilla
Family". I closed Java's control panel and reopened it. The "Mozilla
Family" box was unchecked! It seems that on my system J6-U14
blantantly refuses to run on SeaMonkey. SeaMonkey is my favorite
browser so this really frustrates me. I don't get along with any
browser other than SeaMonkey.

Is there a workaround?

Thanks again

I read the FAQ the only thing about Java on that site is "How do I

Java 6 Update 14. Works fine here on XP-PRO SE3 (up-to-date).

Hi GreenXenon,
You make no mention of having
read the faq's at

Interesting. I went to that control panel and found that Java was not
enabled for Mozilla browsers, yet my SeaMonkey runs Java just fine (I
went to the Java test page, and it showed that Java was installed
and ran the little dancing whatever applet).

Try reinstalling because I'm running Java 6, Update 14 just fine here
without problems...

May not be necessary.

I had the same failure on their test page, read the instructions, and
solved it.

The answer was here:

Print or memorize the instructions, close SeaMonkey, update the setting
in the Java Control Panel, then relaunch SeaMonkey and revisit the test
page.
