M And, presumably, no way to rescue messages falsely categorised as M spam. It is a major disadvantage of server-side spam filtering and why I have disabled this with my ISP. The big advantage of Mailwasher is that you get to see a list of the messages available and you can preview them if you like. It is you who then decides whether to download the entire message. If you do inadvertently delete a legitimate message, you do have a recycle bin where you can recover all or part of the message. If you cannot recover the message body, you can at least contact the sender and ask it be sent again. I am not in favour of ANY system that classifies the messages and acts on its own. I am currently in dispute with a client owing several thousands of dollars. He uses Norton 360, and essentially you cannot send him any e-mail that has a dollar sign in it, or refers to the word dollar or any other terms that are part of an invoice. Norton 360 automatically deletes them and he does not want to change any settings because he wants it to work that way. Basically this way he claims he never received anything. Unfortunately, experience has shown that systems that automatically classify mail and then download and file them away in a spam or junk folder without any user intervention see the user rarely (if ever) checking the spam or junk folder which is then automatically purged. That being the case such systems are as bad as server-side filtering. The user needs to be in control, and even then there needs to be some capability of recovery. WOW!!! K9 simply adds the word SPAM (or whatever you tell it to add) to the subject line *before* the message gets to TB!. It doesn't do anything else (except learn from experience). Once the message reaches your (my) inbox I have a filter set up which routes any incoming message with the word Spam anywhere in the subject line into a folder called amusingly enough, Spam. I then confirm that they are indeed spam and manually delete them from the Spam folder. Also each time you fetch your email you have to open K9 and tell it which of the incoming messages are spam. From then on it will flag (with the word Spam in the subject) any messages which match or closely match the criteria it uses to identify spam. I seem to recall that K9 is much more sophisticated that I'm making it out to be. It's been so long since I started using K9 that I've forgotten just about everything I ever knew about it. That's why it's important to read the information contained at the http://keir.net/k9.html site and the discussions found in TB!'s archives. I understand what you are saying except for one thing: K9 defines Spam within the K9 program but does not tag emails with the word Spam upon TB retrieving them so I do not understand what you are referring to by the word spam in the subject heading. Can you further explain what you mean by K9 inserting or tagging the subject headings with the word spam so I can set TB to send these emails to a spam filter. -- Best regards, Timmailto:timh...@cox.net Current version is 4.2.23 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Oh, Another thing, I don't quite understand it but like clockwork, TB is taking exactly 15 seconds to send outgoing mail. Why 15, why not 2, why not 3. What determines how long TB takes to send mail? I remember several versions ago, TB would send mail almost immediately. This has been going on for quite some time now upgrading to the newer versions but I can't quite figure at what point this started happening. Receiving is a different story, it's never the same... sometimes TB retrieves mail almost immediately upon launching program and other times the mail takes forever and a day for TB to process incoming mail. This is very puzzling and if someone knows the answer I would be forever in your debt to get this one straightened out. I would usually assume this kind of variation is due to the loading on the server, which of course can vary from moment to moment. Have you done any receive tests yet? Yes, receive is all over the board when TB is actually processing, but there is definitely a time-out for several seconds before TB initiates the actual processing of incoming email. I think if I could figure out why TB is timing out at exactly 15 seconds before initiating the processing of incoming mail, this may remedy my receiving it as well. -- Best regards, Timmailto:timh...@cox.net Current version is 4.2.12.4 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

No. With delayed sending is enabled, you can get a dialog come up telling you when the message will actually be sent. You can turn this dialog off. It was a possibility that this dialog might have been turned off and so there was an apparently a delay. Under delivery type I have immediate and I have a check mark in Combined Delivery (send and receive). During this time I have also received around 6 messages where the sender has requested a reading receipt. I have my system prompt me, and I have it set to send one immediately rather than queue them in the Outbox. All reading receipts that I have allowed have gone through fine. Nothing has been left in the Outbox. So maybe this needs to be clarified. What is the situation that prompted this thread? Is The Bat! requesting a reading receipt and one is not being received? If this is the case, then it has nothing to do with The Bat! and everything to do with the receiving system or recipient. They receiving system may be blocking such requests (I have a relative working for the Defence Department and the request for a reading receipt is stripped off incoming messages), or the recipient might have their system set to ignore such requests or is not sending them on an individual basis. In either case there is nothing that The Bat! can do. Is The Bat! not sending reading receipts? If this is the case then the settings to respond to such a request have to be set correctly. The Bat! has to be set to automatically send a receipt without asking, or it has to be set to ask and then it must be allowed on an individual basis. Is The Bat! queuing them in the the Outbox? New, Reply Format
Hello TBUDL, I hope someone can answer this question? Why is that version 4.0.14 displays the Reply and New Message body in HTML now and not plain text. Especially on Replies when you need to refer to the text to answer back, it makes it very difficult to read what the other person has written because now TB turn it into HTML and greys the text out so it makes it impossible to translate and read. -- Best regards, Tim mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Current version is 4.0.14.0 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Re[2]: New, Reply Format
Hello Rick, Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way. I have tried changing this with your recommendations with no change at all. The new interface is locked. -- Best regards, Timmailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Tuesday, February 19, 2008, 12:10:17 PM, you wrote: Hello TBUDL, I hope someone can answer this question? You can right click on the message preview and choose plain text editor but you may have to go to options and define how you want plain text to look. From what I understand it is a brand new editor Current version is 4.0.14.0 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Hello TBUDL, Does enyone know why TB asks to select a language now everytime I send an email? I'm not sure I care for this bloated interface. -- Best regards, Tim mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Current version is 4.0.14.0 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Can't confirm. You may have a different typeface than you are used to, but look down at the status bar. It should say plain text. If it doesn't pull down where it says html and change. Or pull down and change to html to see the difference. Current version is 4.0.14.0 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Hello Rick, Ahhh... that worked. Thanks. -- Best regards, Timmailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Tuesday, February 19, 2008, 12:49:37 PM, you wrote: Hello TBUDL, Does enyone know why TB asks to select a language now everytime I send an email? I'm not sure I care for this bloated interface. Next time you edit a message ope the SPELL CHECKER menu then LANGUAGES and pick your default language. That choice should stick until you change it Current version is 4.0.14.0 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Re[2]: New, Reply Format
Hello Roelof, Not sure what you are referring to? Like this message here. I'm typing in plain text but everything below what I'm typing is in HTML and grayed out, and that goes to when I Reply as well. I have not changed any of my settings. All I did was upgrade to the newest version and the newer version changed something which I can't figure out. And why does it always say Latin 9 (ISO) at the bottom? Every time I do a new message or reply it changes it defaults to Latin. Bizarre. -- Best regards, Timmailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Tuesday, February 19, 2008, 6:05:18 PM, you wrote: Hallo Tim, On Tue, 19 Feb 2008 11:52:54 -0700GMT (19-2-2008, 19:52 +0100, where I live), you wrote: TH I hope someone can answer this question? Hello Dwight, My e-mails are half plain text and HTML. Do you know how to change this? I have toggled these settings till I'm blue in the face and still can't get it to work. -- Best regards, Timmailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Tuesday, February 19, 2008, 2:05:13 PM, you wrote: On Tuesday, February 19, 2008, 1:54:01 PM, Tim Hamm wrote: There is no change. I don't understand what you mean. Since there is a diffence between the plain text and the HTML, the question is which do you have before you fiddle with the text option in the status bar, and which after. I am in plain text, and the only thing I see to choose from at the top is how to justify and that nasty smiley pull down. If I switched to HTML I would have font options, bold, etc. Current version is 4.0.14.0 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
