The current firmware update is still beta. The USB connection works
well with EDO but it still does not do HD. 24/96 has been promised for a
future update.
However, there seems to be little need for this with the SBT, since the
SPDIF connection yields excellent sound up to and including 24/96,
The latest firmware release solves the distortion issue. Works
flawlessly with SPDIF.
Will try EDO on USB next.
Very fast turnaround by the DSPeaker team! Quite reassuring.

You may have inadvertendly issued the TT command for permanently
disabiling the screen. I understand your reluctance to do a factory
reset, but you may have to do that in order to test if the screen is bad
or you have a different problem.

Personally, I found that uncompressed FLAC sounds (marginally) better to
my ears than level 5 compression, which I had been using for a while.
