I'm not trying to be harsh. I've looked at the freevlog stuff, in fact that's where I started. And this group is where I'd be looking for the answers, but no one seems to be able to solve this problem, neither the blip.tv people, the freevlog people, etc. I just want to know what format people are using that works for as many people as possible.

thanks

I understand your frustration, but there are no easy answers here.
Flash is the closest thing to a universal format, but many higher
end producers have issues with its quality, etc (I am definitely not
one of these higher end producers).

Next best thing is probably to produce alternate versions for mac
(mov) and pc (wmv) if streaming is what you're after. There are
some standard settings for both that are very stable on each
respective platform.

For info on the standard settings, try searching the archives in

So once you use Comressor to export the iPod 320x240, the you re-save it to .mov? Because the iPod settings don't allow options

[videoblogging] (BSP) Announcing peralta.TV, a multi-platform TV station

2006-03-15 Thread Josh Wolf
Hey everyone, since January I've been working at a small educational
television station in Oakland, CA - and my first project here has
been to create a new website for the station and although it still
needs quite a bit more polishing, we're officially announcing the
launch of our station today to coincide with some local press
coverage we lined up. If you get a chance, come check out the site
and let me know what you think I can do to help make it better. It
will probably take a couple weeks before I'll be happy, but I'm
trying to get it all up as fast as I can. The website is http://
peralta.tv and the press release we're sending out to all the media
is attached below.

The New Evolution at PCTV: peralta.TV
Now Available Throughout the World *

Oakland, CA – March 15, 2006 – For over 20 years, PCTV has delivered
unique, informative and educational programming to the East Bay
community. Today, that quality programming is now available to anyone
with an internet connection; in recognition of this exciting new
direction, the Peralta Community College District has launched a new
website and adopted the moniker peralta.TV.

The new website for peralta.TV (http://peralta.tv) is built-on the
CivicSpace Labs engine and offers a plethora of interactive and
dynamic features: a community calendar showcasing the various events
happening at the Peralta Colleges and throughout the greater Bay
Area, interactive text-based blogs that will allow visitors to help
shape and inspire the future of peralta.TV, and the most exciting
development, a series of videoblogs that will provide on-demand
access of our original programming to anyone in the world.

Peralta.TV is currently offering four unique and exciting original
programs with a fifth due to launch next month. Talkback, the award-
winning program that dares to discuss the issues affecting the lives
of young adults in the bay area is gearing up for the premiere of its
third season on April 7th. Windows to the World, peralta.TV’s very
own music video program featuring music from around the world is in
pre-production for its first full season, and Rites of Passage and
Sierra at Large both recently wrapped up their inaugural season and
are preparing to top last year’s critical success. Additionally,
peralta.TV will be launching a brand new show in April focused on
capturing all of the exciting events at each of the four campuses
which make up the Peralta Community College District.

Synonymous with vidcasts, vlogs and video Podcasts, each show will
offer it’s own videoblog utilizing a cross-platform flash video
interface provided by audioblog.com along with two distinct RSS feeds
that are both compatible with the video iPod. The first feed will
mirror the short-form, small-screen content offered in flash, and the
second feed will provide a full-screen higher-quality feed of each
complete episode for users who prefer the traditional television
experience.

In developing the station as a muti-platform presence available both
on cable television and online, peralta.TV hopes to further realize
its mission to create and acquire programs that foster critical
awareness both within the East Bay Area and beyond. By creating a
dialogue with the surrounding community peralta.TV seeks to move
beyond the conventional norms presented in mainstream television; to
instigate and educate; and to enhance teaching and learning as part
of the educational mission of the Peralta Community College District
and its four colleges, College of Alameda, Laney and Merritt colleges
in Oakland and Berkeley Community College.

Peralta.TV can be seen on Comcast cable on Channel 27 in Alameda and
Berkeley and on Channel 28 in Oakland, Emeryville and Piedmont. In
the near future, visitors to the peralta.TV website will also be able
to tune into a live-stream which is currently in development with our
media-hosting partner Monkeybrains.

[videoblogging] Premiere Confusion...HELP?

2006-03-15 Thread wlight
Gang,

I'm editing down footage for my first vlog ever, and I'm using Adope
Premiere Elements to do it. So far, I'm pretty impressed with it.

But...I can't seem to do one thing that should be really simple. Dumping
50 mins of footage onto my hard drive has exhausted the free space I have
available, and I still have another 30 minutes of footage to dump. Now,
I've gone and edited down that first 50 to the 3:30 that I really want to
keep. A bunch of clips got cleared outright, and several others have been
trimmed down to only a few seconds.

What I'd like to do is clear out everything I'm not using so that I can
make room for more footage. The problem is...I can't seem to find a way
to tell Premiere If I've cleared it from the clip listing, and if I've
trimmed it and put the trimmed stuff on the timeline, delete it. It's
making it very hard for me to finish this up because the Premiere capture
tool says I still only have enough space on my hard drive for about 9
minutes.

Any help would be appreciated, since I couldn't see anything in Premiere's
documentation to explain how to do this.

Re: [videoblogging] Premiere Confusion...HELP?

2006-03-15 Thread Adam Quirk

When you trim the footage down in Premiere and delete the unused clips, you aren't actually deleting the footage. Premiere is still using the entire piece of video footage, just displaying the parts that you have decided to keep.
I don't think there's a way to delete the unused portion unless you go ahead and render what you have now into a new file. Then you can delete the old footage, and bring the new file back into Premiere. Just render it at full-quality so you don't compress it twice.

[videoblogging] Re: can someone PLEASE tell me the right format to use?

2006-03-15 Thread Bill Streeter
The problem is that there is no one format that can be viewed by
EVERYONE on all systems. There are a few that are more universal
than others. But in choosing one, you have to decide how you expect
your audience to view your material.

Do you expect your viewers to only watch your videos on your blog or
Web site?
Do you want your viewers to be able to download the videos for later
viewing?
Do you want to distribute your videos via an RSS feed?
Do you think a lot of your viewers will be watching on some portable
device like a PSP or an iPod?

Some formats can meet all these criteria for some people, others
only work well in some scenarios.

If you want your videos available to be viewed on an iPod choose
correctly encoded MOV, or MP4 formats. If you only expect the videos
to be viewed in the context of a web page Flash Video is probably
the most universal format. You can distribute most formats via RSS
but the most popular video RSS client is iTunes and it only plays
variants of MP4 and MOVs. Fireant will play almost anything. PSPs
require a different encoding of the MP4 format than iPods do.

Compression is as much an art as a science. There is virtually no
difference between encoding video from a consumer camera for the web
as there is for a professional post production suite. When it comes
to compression everyone is using the same tools for the most part--
or at least the same codecs.

There are other things to keep in mind as well. If you are posting
quicktime or MP4 files you need to know that IE breaks the fast
start in these formats. So that Explorer viewers will likely have to
wait for the entire video to download before they can watch your
movie. Sometimes this wait results in viewers clicking off the page
assuming that they can't view the movie for some reason. The work
around is to embed the movies--and that can cause problems too if
you don't do it just right.

So the answer is there is no simple answer. I recommend starting
with the Free Vlog compression tutorial and then use trial and error
to perfect your own scheme.

2006-03-15 Thread Kitka
If I were in your situation, I would Export Movie (project) to .avi,
then once I check to see that the .avi is working properly and it's
the way I want it... I would delete all the clips (your 50 minutes of
footage) and start a new project using the .avi file you just made.

I'm surprised you have that much footage! When I film Kitkast, I end
up with about 50 minutes of footage as well, but my show is 10 minutes
long! I sure hope you're not recording in between takes...

RE: [videoblogging] Re: Richard's Wife's Reactions to Birthday Vlog is up!

2006-03-15 Thread Mrs. Ours MA PLPC
Actually I wasn't able to put it in just due to the sheer length of her
reactions to the original material but... She Loved it when you blew the
kiss and you went into color she thought it was Awesome (as mike at
Bliptv would say) Awesome, Awesome, Awesome, TOTALLY Awesome!

I wished I could have set up a camera angle that would have gotten the whole
thing both the vid and reactions but in order to keep it candid... I had to
hide the camera to one side or another.

Thanks again for your contribution!

I LOVED watching Maureen's face as she was watching the animated
portions... like Bullemhead. It was almost a sort of confused enjoyment.

I felt strange doing my segment for the mix... does Mrs. Show even
know who I am? Oh well, as long as she enjoys it, who cares...

Happy Birthday again, Maureen.

If I were in your situation, I would Export Movie (project) to .avi,
then once I check to see that the .avi is working properly and it's
the way I want it... I would delete all the clips (your 50 minutes of
footage) and start a new project using the .avi file you just made.

That's not a bad idea. I can turn the .avi back into individual clips,
then, using the split tool, right?

I'm surprised you have that much footage!  When I film Kitkast, I end
up with about 50 minutes of footage as well, but my show is 10 minutes
long!  I sure hope you're not recording in between takes...

This was on-site taping of the a gay pride festival in Ft. Lauderdale. We
were on site for a good 6-7 hours and there was a lot to shoot. Besides
that, we wanted to make sure we had good footage of large crowds of people
so we could edit in a feeling of bigness, and for me, that meant making
a lot of throwaway footage.

This is just a humble suggestion from the peanut gallery... but:

When I capture my video I do a bit of Mini-editing during capture. I tend
to Pre-view the footage I've taped and then rewind and Stop capture on
portions that are either obvious bad shots or not central to the plot line
of my end product. That way I automatically cut some space and time off of
the production before I even begin my editing process.

Perhaps that could help you as well seeing as how you are dealing with

I don't know about a split tool, I would imagine you'll have to use
the razor. So, if you're unsure about the length of a particular
segment, keep it long because you can always use the razor later to
split and shorten. (Who knows, maybe the split tool is the razor I'm

If I were you...first, I would buy another drive. You are going to end
up needing it in the long run anyways.

Now...that aside...

If you are that low on drive space, when you capture your video,
rather than capturing everything, capture as you go. What I mean is
that you should watch your video and mark the in and out times that
you want to capture. That way you only have what you want on your hard
drive.

Not sure if Elements allows you to batch capture or not but that may
be a way to go as well.

This is what I am likely to do with footage from this point forward,

thinking about it, especially since I hadn't yet felt a visual story
emerging. Now that I've taken 50 minutes and reduced it down to 3:30, I
have a more clear palette to work with.

Honing the craft sure is an...interesting...process!

Sorry, not a fan of Windows Movie Maker... It's okay for small clips
(as Adam's suggesting), but never use it to compress a full 10-minute
show!!! The first few Kitkast episodes were exported to .wmv via WMM
and the audio would completely unsynchronize from the video after the
first 4 minutes. Only use WMM for short clips and short videoblogs.

Normally, I would. I'm a computer engineer by trade, so this sort of
thing is not foreign to me.

Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, this also means buying another
computer. I haven't tried IEEE 1394 external drives, but USB external
drives are too slow to be useful in this situation, and my only
workstation with any real horsepower is a laptop.

My plan, in the long run, is to buy a media center PC to hook up to my
HDTV, soup up the drives on it, and use that as my video workstation in
addition to other things.

I've wondered why some of my longer clips sitting around from 2004 have out-of-synch audio. I was using WMM exclusively back then. That explains it. It does work well for short clips. Also, it can use USB input to capture video, where Premiere cannot.

(as Adam's suggesting), but never use it to compress a full 10-minute
show!!! The first few Kitkast episodes were exported to .wmv via WMM
and the audio would completely unsynchronize from the video after the
first 4 minutes. Only use WMM for short clips and short videoblogs.

Also, if you capture using Windows Movie Maker you can compress it

you're just using it for videoblogging at 320x240 or so, you won't
see much
of a difference. Capture it at 1.5mbps or so.

If I were in your situation, I would Export Movie (project) to
.avi,
then once I check to see that the .avi is working properly and it's
the way I want it... I would delete all the clips (your 50 minutes of
footage) and start a new project using the .avi file you just made.

That's not a bad idea. I can turn the .avi back into individual
clips,
then, using the split tool, right?

I'm surprised you have that much footage! When I film Kitkast,
I end
up with about 50 minutes of footage as well, but my show is 10
minutes
long! I sure hope you're not recording in between takes...

This was on-site taping of the a gay pride festival in Ft.

were on site for a good 6-7 hours and there was a lot to shoot.
Besides
that, we wanted to make sure we had good footage of large crowds of
  people
so we could edit in a feeling of bigness, and for me, that
meant making
  a lot of throwaway footage.

Normally, I would. I'm a computer engineer by trade, so this sort of

Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, this also means buying another
computer. I haven't tried IEEE 1394 external drives, but USB external
drives are too slow to be useful in this situation, and my only
workstation with any real horsepower is a laptop.

I purchased an external hard drive, but I only need it for old
episodes that I filmed on my regular digital camera. Now that I have
a DV Cam, I can just store the tapes... same with you, if you have a
DV Cam, don't worry about a hard drive... you can always burn your
AVIs to DVD anyways.

My plan, in the long run, is to buy a media center PC to hook up
to my
HDTV, soup up the drives on it, and use that as my video workstation in
 addition to other things.

[videoblogging] pointing feed to a blogger page vs. web-page?

2006-03-15 Thread greg
Greetings Vloggers,
though i've been posting videos to my site for years, i'm still kinda
getting my head around this RSS thing.
I've been on the list a while, and thanks to tips listed here, i've
indeed burned a feed to a new blogger page i started recently...
but, i'd like to only have to maintain ONE space where people can
subscribe to my videos, if possible.
and i think I'd prefer that it be my own site's video page...
or perhaps maintaining the 2 could be somewhat automated...?
ie) if my site's video page could be 'fed' the videos (somehow thru
RSS?) as they're added to my blogger page?
hmmm hoping someone could please let me know if this is feasible
or even possible to do.
and, here's part 2:
on my site's video page i have links to html pages where i
enclose (correct terminology?) the quicktime video
http://eklektro.net/ek_breakbeatweek.html
But i'm not sure if the video links on these pages qualify as true
enclosures... because they are all merely links
to secondary html pages... each where a given video link (enclosure)
actually resides.
So i'm guessing that i couldn't burn a feed to a page where there are
only LINKS to enclosures,
as opposed to the enclosures themselves.. right?
So this is where i think i need to learn some real web design
protocol (i'm self-taught and dangerous in Dreamweaver)...
'cause the way i've been embedding a single movie in an html page,
it starts to load and play as soon as the page opens...
whereas on blogger, the viewer has to click a link to open the
movie... know what i mean?
On blogger.com, the link is to the movie's URL itself, as opposed to
a link to a page that contains the link to the movie's URL...
So perhaps the solution is as simple as making the click on the link
mandatory before a video would load
(otherwise i'd have dozens of videos trying to load simultaneously!)...
So i guess that this is the bit of code that i'm missing on my own
site, and if anybody could show me hot to modify this via Dreamweaver
or other, that'd be great
one thought though, regarding play-ability, i HAVE seen better
browser success rates, loading videos that were embedded into html
pages. but i guess i'd sacrifice this in order to simplify
everything else.
But are there any other drawbacks to using one's own site for
vodcasting, as opposed to a blogger page?
anything i'm missing?
and/or, best of both worlds, regarding my first question: if there's
a way to have my site's video page subscribe to my blogger page's
videos and update accordingly... now that'd be great!
Anybody who's read this far: Thanks for following along...!
(and i think its time I get clear on terminology: enclosing vs.
embedding! Is there a difference?)
ANY and ALL advice appreciated... thanks much :)
Vlog on,
Greg

I was wondering if there were any Turkish vloggers on the list. It looks
like I'll be in Turkey for about a week at the end of the month; I'm
going to be doing a presentation about low-bandwidth vlogging and

Anyway, if you're based in Turkey, please let me know. My Turkish is

I shoot standard DV in widescreen, and I've had no

 in that direction,
and its actually great to be able to play with the
 extra frame space.

Perhaps part of the problem is the marketing of HDTV
 which speaks of
resolution and aspect ratios as if they're only in
 the HD domain.
They're not. widescreen is an aspect ratio, and has
 nothing to do
 with resolution/high definition (HD).

My recommendation would be NOT to publish standard
 DV widescreen in
4:3 letterbox. Publish widescreen as widescreen.

That's the beauty of TV free media, the aspect
 ratios can be
anything, and if watching on TV, it should
 automatically adjust to
 the incoming ratio.

Thanks Paul, I agree with you too. In the media world, there IS such
a thing as a cease and desist. I was talking with someone from the
CBC the other day (more about this subject at a later date) and he
told me about how someone was compiling a Top 100 songs list for a
major network he said that they got a cease and desist order from
Leonard Cohen (or some boring musician like that) and they couldn't
use him in the FLATTERING Top 100 show they were making.

Makes perfect sense to me. If Leonard Cohen wants to control how his
work is used, he should have that choice. Whether the show was
flattering or critical doesn't matter. Others may see this differently,
but it's ultimately about artists being able to control how their work
is used.

Similarly, videobloggers aren't going to instantly get sued for using
copywritten music/content... they will get a cease and desist order
and if they do not comply, they will then be fined or get a court order.

I think it is incorrect to say 'copywritten' as a work you create has
your copyright assigned to it. How you choose that work to be used is
different from this. The music I can get from Magnatune still has a
copyright held by the artist, but the *license* allows me to use it in
certain ways.

That said, stop worrying so much about it. As long as we all know the
consequences, we can remove certain files from the Internet if they
are problematic. I mean, it's not like you can just call up U2 and
ask if you can use their music!

Well, some of us are big believers in things like Creative Commons,
which allow an artist to easily specify how their work can be used. U2
is a lost cause, they don't even have the rights to their music. (Look
up Negativland for more on that one!) The hope is that from this point
on, artists will realize they *can* have control of their art, and how
it is used, and in 10 years, or 20, or whatever, the world of what you
can legally/safely use is quite different. It's already happening, but
we can help make it happen.

Personally, I wouldn't use copyrighted material if I were making money
off of it, but if it's all in good fun, I think it's fair to use it.
(I don't see many people complaining about the use of the Brokeback
Mountain song with all the homages like Brokeback to the Future, etc.!)

Again, it *is* ok to use copyrighted material, as long as you have the
rights to do so. Getting those right can sometimes prove difficult. (See
above.) Of course there is the issue of what is commercial as well.
Are you making money from ads on your site? Affiliate programs? PayPal
donation links? Who decides what making money consists of? (The courts?)

As for complaining about people using the music from Brokeback mountain
without permission (unless it's fair use ala parody, etc.) just point
me at them, and I'll complain! ;)

The reason I think all of this stuff is important is that I want to see
videoblogging grow and grow, and pretty much explode, and I want to see
it done without violating the rights of artists. I want to see it done
in a way that steps around all that is wrong with the RIAA and MPAA and
those that would see us crushed beneath their wheels

(Whew, rant mode off...)

Diva, I really did want to hear your answers to these quetions:

Is there a clearinghouse where I could go and say I want to use Song X for my videoblog, which has an average monthly circulation of n, which is distributed by so-and-so means... How much will that cost me? - and get a quick answer?
I would expect such a service to include considerations such as the difference between using a song in its entirety with no other sound (so that there could be abuses such as people stripping out the soundtrack to put on their iPod without further payment), vs using only some proportion of a song, or using it as background music with other sound so that a clean recording could not be easily stripped out of the video.
You have experience in this field, so if you're willing to share, I'd like to know! -- best regards,Deirdré Straughan

I'm not sure it works that way in the case of the show in question. A

my understanding that a person could write a book dissecting the lyrics of
Leonard Cohen without ol' Lenny being able to stand in the way. The
question of derivative work and fair use, as I understand it, is that if
the derivative work is *about* the original, rather than a *restatement*

Artists' rights are important, but there needs to be a balance between an artist earning a fair living from his/her work, and copyright being used to stifle important new forms of creativity.
Again, I point to JD's mashup video, which showed some amazingly creative stuff is being made that under current law has no right to exist, yet brings pleasure to a lot of people and is, at worst, neutral in its impact on the original artists. Is a Charlie Brown cartoon harmed by being mashed up with a pop song 30 years younger than it is? I doubt it. But because the law offers no protection for such creative re-use, it had to be removed from ourmedia when the copyright owner (United Features Syndicate) complained.
This is an area of law which needs to be tested by the courts, but won't be if we all hide under Creative Commons. And, I reiterate: the music currently available under Creative Commons does not suit every need. I did look once for Indian music to use in my trailer, and did not find it. Someone in this thread said something about using popular music being easy. Damn right, and that's part of the reason I do it. I don't get paid for videoblogging, already rarely have time for shooting, editing, processing and posting, and don't have more hours to spend identifying the right music with the right license.
I would gladly pay what it's worth for the right to use copyrighted music. But it needs to be easy. Many people downloaded music illegally because it was by far the easiest way to get music. Now that Apple has made it easy to get music legitimately, they've sold 1 billion tracks. I suspect that if someone comes up with an easy way for creative people to pay a reasonable fee for use, many/most will do it. Someday someone will build a business around this, though right now it's probably not worth it because the market of creators is much smaller than the market of listeners.

There are many online sources that sell royalty free and royalty based
creative. For example, a quick google gives you this:
http://www.stock-music.com/

If you've ever worked with photography aggregators, it's the same concept.

Most vloggers can't budget anything other than creative commons works
or works from folks who are allowing for free (negotiated on a
grassroots basis).

But, if you have money to spend there are plenty of libraries (video,

there's no incentive to test this in the courts,
because major copyright owners - the ones likely to be
involved in test cases - are inherently likely to win,
given a) the resources they can bring to the table to
fight, and b) the fact that the laws are written
poorly (in other words, massively in their favor) in
the first place. when congress can just wave its

cares what some minor court has to say about anything.

the whole point of creative commons is that this
process is *not* hidden, that it's exposed to all

whatever i want from whomever i want, and that is
conceptually problematic.  CC is a nascent movement;
of course it doesn't suit every need right now. but
the likelihood that CC could grow as a popular

I love capturing screens. i do it all the time and have always considered it a sort of digital art. the pixelation noise and flickering etc it can really add some interesting layers to an otherwise typical visual experience. I have many clips to this effect. I should post them. Some are actually quite funny because of distorted heads when you angle the lense against a screen.
If i was doing a tutorial screencast, i would use proper screencasting software. but for fun and sake of art its all good.then again, i'm was a pixelvision kid. sull

I like the concept of a Copyrighted Material limited Use Fee I know I'm
willing to pay to download music from one site or another for a nominal fee.
If I like the CD I'm still gonna go out and buy it at Sam Goody or Tower so
I can get the cool cover art and lyrics, photos etc.

If I'm willing to do that then It stands to reason that I'd be willing to
pay a yearly subscription fee of a reasonable amount to a site that would
allow limited use of material by more famous musicians, film-makers, etc.
How realistic is it that the Big Guys would ever do this? Not likely at
all unles the faceless masses bring it to somebody's attentioncome to
think of it... do we have a Vlog Lobby?

Re: [videoblogging] Re: SF Vloggercon Hotels?

2006-03-15 Thread Josh Wolf
Now that there's BART to both SFO and Oakland, I happen to feel that
SFO is a little more convenient although much busier in that it's one
train the whole way into the city -- airBART in Oakland involves
taking a bus. That said, I'd go with whichever airport offers the
cheapest price as the differences in convenience aren't much -- both
are fine places to fly in and never have to worry about renting a car
or private air-shuttles.

[videoblogging] Re: Top Ten Vlogging Mistakes

2006-03-15 Thread Bill Streeter
I happen to believe that it's technically wrong to use others work
without permission. But then again on the great grand list of things
that one can do wrong that's somewhere near the bottom. White lies are
technically wrong too. Obviously there is some risk in getting a nasty
letter or even a law suit from doing it. I just think it should be up
to the creator of the video in question just how much risk they are
willing to take on. If someone wants to use someone else's music it's
between the videomaker and the entity that owns the rights to the music.

What I would encourage those of you to do who want to use music with
permission is to forge relationships with local musicians and just ask
if you can use their music. Most of the time they will say yeah.
That's all need to do, is ask permission. You don't need written
contracts, all you need is a verbal YES. Especially if you are just
unknowns and friends just trying to help each other out. Besides this
is a powerful medium, why not use it to promote some people in your
local area that deserve to get some exposure? That's basically what my
vlog is all about, so I'm sorta in this mindset already.

And while you're out making friends with other people who are into
other kinds of creative endeavors you can help spread the word about
Creative Commons.

Others may see this differently,
but it's ultimately about artists being able to control how their work
 is used.

Similarly, videobloggers aren't going to instantly get sued for using
copywritten music/content... they will get a cease and desist order
and if they do not comply, they will then be fined or get a court
order.

Mountain song with all the homages like Brokeback to the Future,
etc.!)

Again, it *is* ok to use copyrighted material, as long as you have
the
rights to do so. Getting those right can sometimes prove difficult.
(See
above.) Of course there is the issue of what is commercial as well.
Are you making money from ads on your site? Affiliate programs? PayPal
donation links? Who decides what making money consists of? (The
courts?)

As for complaining about people using the music from Brokeback mountain
without permission (unless it's fair use ala parody, etc.) just
point
me at them, and I'll complain!

What would you consider the top ten most annoying vlogging
errors/mistakes.

I'll start - and I know that my opinion is going to be
controversial

1. It irks me when people use copy protected material that they don't
have the legal right to use. For example many vlogs use sound from
famous musicians who have not authorzied putting their stuff on the
public domain. Or lots of vlogs will use video clips from big
hollywood films to which they do not have the legal right. I only use
stuff that's authorized under common lisc. AND/OR stuff that I have
purchased via stock outlets.

I own a virtual agency and I have to negotiate with every artist
regarding usage rights. These folks work hard to produce their work
and I don't feel that it is right to take it without authorization.

2. Shaky video - ala 'the blair witch project'

3. Video with absolutely no text so that the only way I know what it
is about is by clicking on it.

OK, so what are some other folks pet peeves.
