RE: Toolbar?

2020-09-21 Thread Richard Turner
Interesting.
I just expanded a thread with 4 messages in it.
I flicked to the second one, then deleted it, and the third one came into focus.
I tried that again and got the same result.
This method of expanding the thread does separate the messages into a more
standard list and does identify the sender where as for me, if I just use
messages on the rotor with the caption description turned off, I have no idea
who it is from.
This is going to be my method of reading threads from now on.
I'll comment again If I can duplicate the focus issue when deleting a message
within a thread.

Well, if I get a thread of messages and I expand to the thread with the actions
rotor. Then I flip to the right to read the first message. So I don’t have to
open the message unless it’s too long for the preview pane. Having read the
preview pane, I may delete the message. I expect to see the next message in the
thread. But God knows where I might be. It’s like I’m in the next message in
the order in the mail list, not the next message in the thread. It’s like once
I expand the thread, the system no longer recognizes it as such.

It should say message 1 or 2 and so on. I don't have trouble with the numbers.
When I first start typing my messages, Siri comes on sometimes. What's that
about? I don't touch my home button. I don't have hey Siri turned on.

I had a problem with message threading until yesterday until I changed the
setting where toolbar was showing up. It seems to be working most of the time.
I just swipe right and back left should I have a problem. I get a lag when
typing sometimes and don't understand what that is about.

Sieghard, do you have it set to Do Nothing under Caption Description in
Verbosity?

I get no information about the who the threaded messages are from if it is set
to do nothing.

No numbers, no names; very interesting.

I have this turned off and if you are talking about threaded messages in the
Mail app then this seems to work fine for me.
I currently only have a few with two messages where I received a message and
then replied, if I swipe to one of them Voiceover announces "Replied" and the
name of the person who sent it, then it will say "2 messages in thread". If I
double tap to open the thread and then turn the rotor to Messages I can swipe
down and Voiceover says "Message 2 of 2" and it will say "From: Sieghard
Weitzel", if I swipe up again it will say "Message 1 of 2" and this is followed
by the original sender's name.

But when you turn off the container descriptions, you will not know which
message you are in using the treaded mails. Besides, VO will not announce who

RE: Toolbar?

2020-09-21 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

Besides, VO will not announce who
the sender is.

RE: Toolbar?

2020-09-21 Thread Richard Turner
Good point about the threads not being numbered or named.
That may cause me to turn the extra verbiage back on.
I think I will also suggest to Apple that they consider breaking those
container descriptions out into types to give more detailed control, some might
want the Dock to speak but not the Toolbar. Or want threading to be named and
numbered but not have the dock or toolbar, etc.

Yes, it seems that with container announcements off you can't tell who the
sender of an email is in the threaded mail view. You also can't tell which
email you are reading in a thread -- three of six or whatever.

Yes, it seems that with container announcements off you can't tell who the
sender of an email is in the threaded mail view. You also can't tell which
email you are reading in a thread -- three of six or whatever.

Where exactly are container descriptions? I went to settings,
accessibility, voiceover, verbosity, and I couldn't find anything
about containers. I'm running 13.7 is this only in 14?

Same goes for the mail app. Now, when you're focused on a folder, VO says no

more superfluous chatter we have to sift through every single time. Again,

I very much agree here, always thought how nice it would be to be able to
turn off how Voiceover says "Dock" whenever I touch one of the apps there.
After all, it doesn't say "Home screen 1" if I touch an app on my first home
screen and I think Apple really needs to tie such redundant announcements to
Voiceover Hints or to entirely allow them to be turned on or off just how
you can really customize what information Jaws speaks. Any half way
competent iPhone user doesn't need to hear "Dock" or "Toolbar" or "tab bar"
spoken. Yes, you get used to it, but it's still annoying and hopefully a
number of people will write to Apple Accessibility requesting this. This is
definitely one I will point out especially now that they are expanding such
extra announcements.

I’m curious if when we touch, for example within the Mail app, near the
dock where you have the ToolBar to delete, More Options, and others, is it
an iOS14 bug that it says ToolBar, or is it someting that should be there?
Of course it doesn’t bother me, but I’m curious.

Thanks, Michael. I didn’t even know that setting existed. I turned it off, and
blessed silence. God I wonder if it works in the messages app not say
conversations. That would be cool.

Yup. I wrote Apple accessibility as well. Don’t' know if it's a bug or well
intentioned effort to provide more description/information, but it's one of
those cases where more isn't better.
I asked if it isn't in fact a bug, that if they could at the very least include
this behavior only when hints are turned on to give us more experienced iOS
users more options on what's spoken.
Same goes for the mail app. Now, when you're focused on a folder, VO says no
unread mail. I mean., you intuitively understand if VO doesn’t' read X unread
messages, there are no unread emails in that folder or inbox. Just more
superfluous chatter we have to sift through every single time. Again, probably
mor appropriate for when hints are turned on.

Re: Toolbar?

2020-09-20 Thread Mary Otten
It would be nice to be able to turn these announcements off. I mean really,
toolbar? But it’s been there all through the beta cycle, so I’m sure it’s
deliberate. More unnecessary verbosity. Please let us turn all this junk off.

RE: Toolbar?

2020-09-20 Thread Richard Turner
That would be considered a feature by Apple, just like the Dock saying the Dock
when you touch the apps at the bottom of your screen.
Apparently, we are supposed to know we are in the Toolbar, or Dock, as if one
couldn't figure that out because it is the last line of the screen.

Subject: Toolbar?

I’m curious if when we touch, for example within the Mail app, near the dock
where you have the ToolBar to delete, More Options, and others, is it an iOS14
bug that it says ToolBar, or is it someting that should be there? Of course it
doesn’t bother me, but I’m curious.
