the right one, then quit Disk Utility. Which confirmed, as you have said, that it is OK to rename the volume/partition. I have now re-setup the new drive through my UPS, renamed the volume and verified it with Disk utility. As you thought, I did not need to change anything in the Time Machine settings

Hmmm, When you say: Yes, it will take a long time on the first ³Indexing² (the Restore) just let it complete. How long are we talking? It has currently been over 19 hours and the Time Machine preference pane is still showing ³Indexing backup² and Spotlight is showing Indexing Seagate 2TB

and the Time Machine preference pane is now correctly showing the oldest and latest backups and the Name as Iomega 1TB. Since neither disk is currently attached, however, the name is greyed out.
