I tried a 10U3 to 10U4 LU last week. The system is a Netra-T1/AC200 with 2 GB RAM. Two internal disks. The LU was to a second mirrored pair of slices on the same disks. There is one NG-zone. During the installation of the patches from 72099, I got many errors for installing a patch into the NG-zone, but these were patches that were for code that is inherited (this is a sparse zone). After the reboot, shutting down NG-zones, and the final reboot I was ready to attempt the LU. During the LU I ran into the SUNWiiim bug ( 6509956 http://bugs.opensolaris.org/bugdatabase/view_bug.do;jsessionid=e2aefd5c036e736e919176bb284?bug_id=6509956 ). After the LU completed I had two packages that could not be upgraded (SUNWiiim which I expected, and SUNWcsr... but since that had already been upgraded by the last patch I tried booting to the new BE anyway). The new BE booted fine, but I am concerned about doing this on much larger (with many more services and NG-zones) since we don't know *why* we got the errors. Has anyone else seen this type of behavior ? We really *need* some of the NG-zone and routing and ZFS and Samba fixes in 10U4. -- Paul Kraus ___ zones-discuss mailing list zones-discuss@opensolaris.org
Re: [zones-discuss] S10 U3 Live Upgrade with zones
Hi Guys, I can confirm that it works now and I was able to do LiveUpgrade from U3 to U4 with zones. Not much sense to do that, as you have to install kernel from U4 first anyway, but hope that for next releases we'll be able to LiveUpgrade with minimal downtime. Good job ! Re: [zones-discuss] S10 U3 Live Upgrade with zones
Oh, last time I tried to do LiveUpgrade there were no withdrawn patches in Solaris 10 for SPARC with non-global zones section. I' guess I should wait for that patch and try it again, although I have that 120012-14 already installed and I'm confused if I can do LiveUpgrade now or not. To be short - it fails on lucreate stage after I upgraded SUNWlu* packages (installed SUNWlucfg to be specific, as I don't see any changes in SUNWluu and SUNWlur). Before I installed SUNWlucfg - lucreate created second BE without any complains about running zones, but luupgrade refused to went further with exactly the same message - you should install Zones patches, take a look at 72099. And I don't see any reasonable way to see which patch it's missing, and that's annoying. So I killed second BE and tried to update SUNWlu* packages first and create BE then and now lucreate fails instantly. Sergiy, The info doc 72099 is clear about LU with zones still, here is the NOTE: NOTE: This patch list is currently incomplete for Solaris[TM] 10 systems running zones. One patch that impacts patching zones is not available for either SPARC or x86 platforms. If you are not using Live Upgrade on a system involving zones, the patch list below is complete. I guess, we still need to wait for the list of patches to be finalized Ihsan Sergiy Kolodka wrote: Guys, Can someone please confirm or deny if it is possible to do LiveUpgrade from Solaris 11/06 with zones installed to Solaris 8/07 ? I've tried to apply all patches mentioned in 72099 doco from SunSolve, but lucreate keep complaining that I need to install all required patches in order to do upgrade with zones, and I'm pretty sure that I already have all them installed, actually I checked that five times and they are in fact. Whey I deattached zones process went pretty smooth, but that's not what I'm looking for. So, am I missing something or LiveUpgrade with zones still doesn't work ? Thanks !
