Doug,

I agree that USB burners are slow, but then so are a lot of older CD 
burners.

Our c600, with a similar upgrade/configuration as your machine, has 
been quite happy with a LaCie external SCSI machine for the past two 
plus years.  It is a 12-4-32 Sanyo drive inside the LaCie box.  It 
works nicely with Toast.  Toast Light came with the machine.  We have 
upgraded to Toast Titanium.  I have no idea if it works with Apple's 
Disk Burner.  Toast is so nice, I did not go looking around at other 
programs.

One warning about the LaCie drive... it has a very loud fan!

Older SCSI CD burners show up regularly on the LEM Swap List.

One nice feature is that quite a few of the external SCSI drives will 
boot the c600.  Handy if you still have the original CD-ROM drive.
