Vortexbox is not 'a bit of kit'. It is a customized Linux distribution,
based on Fedora Linux. You are probably (understandably) confusing
Vortexbox (VB) with the Vortexbox Appliance (VBA), which is the bit of
kit running Linux. VB is free to download, whereas VBA costs money,
because hardware is like that.

Vortexbox replaces the operating system on your computer. In your case,
you would overwrite your Mint Linux installation, or possibly set up a
dual-boot, if that's what you prefer. VB has SBS pre-installed, as well
as numerous other audio-based utilities, such as a ripping program.

Thanks for providing the info about your Mint version, but the reply
about how you tried to install SBS is too vague to be useful. Is there
any particular reason you want to use Mint, or would a different Linux
distribution suffice?
