As with any forum, don't put too much emphasis on all the "problem" posts, as people mostly post problems of course. The latest version of vortexbox (1.10) has one button backup to USB drive and restore to make that all easier. My reference was to mounting USB drives for basic use (not backup use). This said, of all the computer stuff I've used in the last 30 years, vortexbox has been the most trouble free. the first 9 months I used it, it was just on 24/7 in the back Cabinet with not so much as reboot. Then I did a major upgrade of both the linux system and SbS which required that I connect a monitor and keyboard. This was just a matter of entering a few command lines, which were laid out on the website, and this all worked perfectly, although I did subsequently remove and install SbS (which was a matter of entering one simple command line and hitting enter). And the latter problem was a SbS problem I'm almost 99% sure. And even that issue was solved in about 10 minutes. Your mileage may vary, but for me, vortexbox has been a very simple, plug and play server choice. And I use it for network storage of files too. -- garym System 1: Vortexbox Appliance (1.10) > SbS 7.6.2 > Transporter, Touch, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet except Radio) System 2: Win7(64) laptop > SbS 7.6.2 > Touch>Benchmark DAC I, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet except Radio and laptop) Retired: SB3, Duet Receiver Controlled at both locations with: iPhone (iPeng), iPad (iPengHD & SqueezePad), CONTROLLER, or SqueezePlay 7.6 on Win7(64) laptop Ripping (FLAC) - dbpoweramp, Additional Tagging - mp3tag ------------------------------------------------------------------------ garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=90827 _______________________________________________ unix mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
