I'm sure you are right. However, the level of insults flying around on
that thread are enough to put me off reading it any further. To be
honest I don't know the difference between any of these variations, or
Fedora or....... I'm was certainly unaware that I'm on the bleeding
edge using Mint Debian - it's still Debian isn't it? People refer to
versions of Linux using very weird given names. This may be very
entertaining for those in the know. For the rest of us it's just
confusion.

It was whilst having a beer or there with a friend that he recommended
this version. Maybe I should ask him for another beer :)

Even if I say, OK, I'll pick Debian - where do I go to a get a version
I know for sure will work? This may be obvious to some, but not to me.
I'm sure many think I am just not trying hard enough. Believe me I've
been doing my nut in trying to pick it up, and by now have just about
got to that extremely dangerous 'a little knowledge is a dangerous
thing' stage. Linux is sort of familiar from systems I worked on in my
youth, but different enough to mislead me.

installations. See
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89603 for instance.

I know there are many out there saying 'it works', but mine doesn't,
and I'm afraid I am just too stupid to understand why.
