Looking at a few of the posts there, they are mostly about backups. Further, many seem to have serious problems with USB discs as backups (with people quoting commands I've not yet encountered to get it all to work), let alone as the main drive.
I think I'll have to give up on this whole idea. It all looks far too hard.
