Sorry, straightforward isn't the right word. But what I meant is that
compared to regular Debian or Ubuntu, Mint is relatively new and has a
much smaller user base. You don't want to be a pioneer (very few people
do, especially when it comes to Linux!), so why choose something new? 

For example, one of the things I like better about Debian compared to
Ubuntu is that Debian takes a much slower, measured approach to
updating packages. This means that you don't have the latest and
greatest, but what you have works, and will continue working. Upgrades
tend to have fewer surprises.
