As a side question, will either Vortebox or a better Debian than I seem to have, work well (or even at all) with a USB disc (the PC does support USB 2.0)
My PC is old enough not to have a SATA connection (IDE only). Most modern large drives seem to require SATA connections. -- PasTim Server on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, 2 CPU, 2GHz, 4GB, FLAC files. Touch on Ethernet (in another room). Analogue out over 'a bit of wire' to ageing Quad Hi-Fi.
