No. If you see H.S.' posting you receive by e-mail, it will have normal unsubscribe trailer.
What H.S.' the posting as he read from gmane has no trailler. This is correct: all the posting as stored and shown in gmane has no unsubscribe trailer, regardless on who sent it. I believe the mailing list manager post it to gmane before trailler attached. This is fine, since the unsubscribe trailler will not make any sense in a nntp newsgroup.
* If the emails are sent to your gmail account, Gmane apparently intercepts and discards them without their being processed by the gmail server at all, or perhaps gmail has a filter to discard them.
Gmane has no power over that e-mail. I believe H.S. said it in his/her own footer: that the e-mail will go to a mailbox that never read and discarded periodically (trash, maybe?).
* Gmane apparently has its own subscription to the list and receives a copy of the emails,
Yes. In a way of speaking.
stripping the unsubscribe trailer and creating a newsgroup post for you and its other users of this newsgroup.
Not sure about the technicality, but it may use an adapter in the mailing list manager. So e-mail never actually "sent to gmane", but the adapter in the mailing list manager automatically posted the message as part of processing.
* If you decide to stop following the list, you remove it from your Gmane newsgroup list but do not unsubscribe your gmail account. Does Gmane unsubscribe you? If not, and the list server is actually sending messages to you, that would seem to be wasteful of resources.
Right, person who did subscription this way must remember to unsubscribe his/her e-mail when he stop following the list.
