Hi all,

Is it on purpose that 128 pages
"https://wiki.contextgarden.net/Command/ " start with a
space character ?

I didn't find an explanation in https://wiki.contextgarden.net/Command

For example, these two pages exist :
- https://wiki.contextgarden.net/Command/startbuffer
- https://wiki.contextgarden.net/Command/_startbuffer

If it is on purpose:
- What is the purpose, and which page should contain which
documentation?

The command pages which start with an underscore are probably leftovers
when Taco changed a page from manual command descriptions to auto
generated tables.

In the process to change the page he makes a copy of the current page
with an underscore at the beginning which is deleted after the change
but it's possible he forgot to delete a few of them.

When you notice no difference between both versions of a command page
you can delete all of the forgotten pages.

No!

These are the general pages in opposite to instance pages, e.g.
"startsection" and "startchapter" are instances of "_startsection"?

https://wiki.contextgarden.net/Command/_placefloat is the general page
for the instances placefigure, placetable etc.

My bad, thank you for the correction!

Wolfgang

I suspect that LMTX is a bit more strict about parsing. You have
omitted the required \par for each \head.

You're correct, \head is the cause of the error and it's better to
replace it with

    \starthead {...}

but there are more things which can be changed to use modern syntax (in
many cases part of ConTeXt since nearly a decade).

A few examples:

\startplacetable[reference=...,location=...,title=...] ... \stopplacetable

When you use the old \place... commands you have to write

\placetable [here,split} {...} {...}

BTW: \placetable expects either {...} or \bgoup ...\egroup as second
mandatory argument, in your case you has been lucky because \startxtable
has an \bgroup in its definition but you shouldn't rely on this.

"Table 1b My long table" and so on. I'd like to change these to be "Table 1 My Long table" then
"Table 1 (cont'd) My long table" for the remaining pages.

I've tried \setupcaption[table][suffix={(cont'd)] but that affects all the
pages. How can I set it for the second and subsequent pages only, please?

The solution turned out to be really simple (for small tables at least - less
fun if you have hundreds of pages!). Just use:

\defineconversion[Contd][~,{ (cont’d)},{ (cont’d)},{ (cont’d)},{ (cont’d)},{

   { (cont’d)},{ (cont’d)},{
(cont’d)},{ (cont’d)},{ (cont’d)} ]
\setupfloatsplitting[conversion=Contd]

This results in "Table 1 My Long table", "Table 1 (cont’d) My Long table" and
so on.

There is already a conversion for this numbering style.

\setuplabeltext [en] [continued={ (cont’d)}]

\setupfloatsplitting [conversion=continued]

The solution turned out to be really simple (for small tables at least - less
fun if you have hundreds of pages!). Just use:

\defineconversion[Contd][~,{ (cont’d)},{ (cont’d)},{ (cont’d)},{ (cont’d)},{
(cont’d)},
   { (cont’d)},{ (cont’d)},{
(cont’d)},{ (cont’d)},{ (cont’d)},
   { (cont’d)},{ (cont’d)},{
(cont’d)},{ (cont’d)},{ (cont’d)},
   { (cont’d)},{ (cont’d)},{
(cont’d)},{ (cont’d)},{ (cont’d)} ]
\setupfloatsplitting[conversion=Contd]

This results in "Table 1 My Long table", "Table 1 (cont’d) My Long table" and
so on.

[NTG-context] Changing the caption on a split table

2022-08-02 Thread Bruce Horrocks via ntg-context
I have a 5-page table placed using

\setupcaption [table] [way=bytext,prefixsegments=none]
\placetable[split]{My long table}{...}

The caption for the first table page is "Table 1a My Long table"; for the
second table page it is "Table 1b My long table" and so on. I'd like to change
these to be "Table 1 My Long table" then "Table 1 (cont'd) My long table" for
the remaining pages.

I've tried \setupcaption[table][suffix={(cont'd)] but that affects all the
pages. How can I set it for the second and subsequent pages only, please?

Re: [NTG-context] local footnotes and captions

2022-06-16 Thread Denis Maier via ntg-context
I'm not quite I understand:
Are you saying I should leave the caption in "global scope"?

Regarding the second version: Shouldn't that be:
\startlocalfootnotes
\footnotetext[asdf]{asdf} % this
%\footnotetext[asdf]{\footnote{asdf}} % instead of this
\startplacetable[title={A breakfast table.\note[asdf]}]
 \placelegend
 {\starttable[|l|r|]
 \HL
 \VL Spam \footnote {lovely}\VL Bacon \footnote
{wonderful} \VL\FR
 \VL Eggs \footnote {wonderful} \VL Spam  \footnote {lovely}
\VL\LR
 \HL
 \stoptable}
 {\placelocalfootnotes}
\stopplacetable
\stoplocalfootnotes

?

Hi everyone,

a quick follow-up to todays monthly meeting: A couple of months ago I ran into
issues getting "flushbottom" typesetting right. See:

Today, some of these issues seem to have been fixed. But I still have the
impression that vertical glue is still not working completely reliable. Below
are a couple of examples.

While the second example seems to work ok with \setupalign[height] the last
line differs if we have different font size, cf. e.g. page 3 and 4.

[NTG-context] Control of Titles appearing in \completelistoftables and \completelistoffigures

2021-08-24 Thread Richard Mahoney via ntg-context
List,

I've been wondering if there is some syntax that one can use in:

\placetable or \placefigure

to control the Table of Figure Title appearing in:

\completelistoftables and \completelistoffigures

At the moment one can do this for the output of:

\completecontent

with something such as the following:

\startsection[title={Title in body},list={Title in contents}]

Such a thing would be *extremely* useful for a current
publication. :)

Best, Richard

[NTG-context] TEXpage does not fit \placetable & \recurselevel always zero

2021-03-05 Thread Jacob Kauffmann
Dear list,

thank you very much for the help so far.

I have two problems understanding the output of the code below. I am using
version 2021.02.23 17:47.
(1) The TEXpage is cut off after ~40 lines. Normally, the page is extended to
fit its content. It's probably related to \placetable which I only use here
because I need a centered table. I can set the height of the page manually, but
the whole purpose of using TEXpage was to avoid that.
(2) \recurselevel is always zero in the output. Normally, it counts the
iterations. This issue is not relevant for my actual use-case, but I found that
when writing the MWE.

Best wishes,
Jacob Kauffmann

\setupTEXpage[width=10cm]

version 2021.02.23 17:47.

\startTEXpage
\placetable[force,none]{}{%
\starttabulate[|c|c|]
\NC A \NC B \NC\NR
\HL
\dorecurse{50}{\NC \expanded{\recurselevel} \NC \recurselevel \NC\NR}
\stoptabulate
}
\stopTEXpage
\stoptext

\startTEXpage[strut=no,offset=10pt]
\starttabulate[|c|c|c|c|c|]
\NC A \NC B \NC C \NC D \NC E \NC \NR
\HL
\dorecurse{50}{\NC ##1\NC ##1\NC ##1\NC ##1\NC ##1\NC\NR}
\stoptabulate
\stopTEXpage

works ok here upto

\starttext
\startTEXpage[strut=no,offset=10pt]
\starttabulate[|c|c|c|c|c|]
\NC A \NC B \NC C \NC D \NC E \NC \NR
\HL
\dorecurse{1128}{\NC ##1\NC ##1\NC ##1\NC ##1\NC ##1\NC\NR}
\stoptabulate
\stopTEXpage
\stoptext

but you need a special printer for that anyway

(don't use a place command inside a TEXpage)

Hi!
Thanks for your rapid answer.

Thanks Wolfgang, in the example you
did send me I overlooked the difference between the title line

Thanks also for the explanation about

[NTG-context] [Solved] Fwd: lmtx-20210118 | Corruption with rotated floats

2021-02-01 Thread Richard Mahoney
I've just updated the system to LMTX-20210201 and have found that this
has been resolved -- \placetable[here,90] is back again! Thank you
very
much for this.

Best, Richard

List members,

I've found that recent versions of LMTX seem to have broken table and
figure floats using rotation. Lmtx-20210118 with for example:

\placetable[here,90]

results in the trashing of all subsequent body text in the PDF.

This can be corrected with something such as:

\placetable[here] ...

\framed[orientation=90]

(although one looses the ability to rotate the title of the table).

The last really stable version of LMTX, which I'm finding that I'm
constantly returning to as my default, is lmtx-20200920.

This error has been occurring for some time now, and unfortunately,
while I would like to keep up the recent releases of LMTX, it is
essential that I should be able to rotate tables and images. Does
anyone know of a fix.

Best, Richard

Richard,

a minimal sample with images would read:

   \setupexternalfigures[location=default]
   \starttext
   \placefigure[90, here]{Rotated sample}{\externalfigure[hacker.jpg]}
   \input zapf
   \stoptext

I don’t know why, but both MkIV and current latest (LMTX from
2021.01.22 09:41) place the rotated figure on a different page (with 90
and 270).

LMTX misplaces next paragraph on next page with both 90 and 270.

To show the issues with tables, a minimal sample would help. I’m afraid
I don’t have any experience rotating tables.
The code is not different from mkiv but instead we swap dimens using a
primitive. When you set \overloadmode=4 (which can be interesting as it
might reveal issues in a style) the run will quit with an error ... this
is a fix:

\def\strc_floats_set_page_variant
  {\bgroup
   \strc_floats_set_local_hsize
   \ifcase\c_strc_floats_rotation\else
 % Swapping fails in overloadmode and is also wrong (as it then is
persistent due

 % to global being inherited).
%\swapdimens\hsize\vsize
 \scratchdimen\hsize
 \hsize\vsize
 \vsize\scratchdimen
   \fi

(it also indicates that we're cheating with the sizes which when it
happens global is pretty dangerous ... it works but i admit that it is
not nice)

Oh, after looking at some examples I found that
\startplacetable[location=force,title={Caption
Text}] places the table without the extra vertical space, as long as there
wasn't a \setupalign[line] !

[NTG-context] Can I caption a table without using something that makes it float?

2020-12-05 Thread T. Kurt Bond
If I use \placetable or startplacetable with location=force it shows up but
there is lots of space before and after it, I assume it is because it is a
float. Is there a way I can caption the table without using something that
makes it float, or remove the space otherwise?

The \placefloat command expects the name of the float instance as first

Re: [NTG-context] \placetable[location=split] reference ??

2020-05-07 Thread Benjamin Buchmuller
Okay, I found the solution myself: Need to specify \startxtable[split=repeat]
or else.

It’s actually a bit surprising that the value of the “outer” enivornment
(placetable) depends on the settings in the inner one (xtable). I speculate
this might be because the order of the tables might be different as soon as
xtable tries to place them …

Cheers

[NTG-context] \placetable[location=split] reference ??

2020-04-22 Thread Benjamin Buchmuller
Hi,

I would like to reference a table of the following structure.

\starttext

\startplacetable[reference=tab1,title={A table},location=split]
\startxtable
\startxrow
\startxcell hi \stopxcell
\stopxrow
\stopxtable
\stopplacetable

In Table \in[tab1]

\stoptext

It has [location=split], which I need this because xtable doesn’t like to be
placed without a split; and apparently neither does it accept the
\placetable[ref]{...} syntax. However, the reference is now no longer detected.

I can see that the split table’s caption is about to become "Table 1.a.",
"Table 1.b" etc. and I appreciate that this is potentially a quite complex
mechanism anyways, but if there was any chance to get a reference as “Table
1”, I would be helped a lot.

On similar lines, is there a way to have “Table 1 (continued).” in the caption?

Cheers

Benjamin

Re: [NTG-context] splitted xtable with repeating headers and placetable

2020-04-05 Thread Wolfgang Schuster

Geert Dobbels schrieb am 05.04.2020 um 00:30:

Wolfgang,

Below is what I think is the bare minimum to explain this question
(sorry for not doing it right from the beginning...)

Keep it up.

As I said, with the code as it is below, the header is not repeated
after the first page, but the table is in the right place.

Replacing "split=yes" by "split=repeat" makes the header repeat
correctly but puts the beginning of the table on the next page, leaving
the first page nearly completely blank.

I already reported the problem on the dev-list. The reason is that
ConTeXt creates one big table and splits it afterwards in smaller
parts which fit on each page but when you use "split=repeat" the
part for the first page is too large to fit.

In both cases, the "header=repeat" setting has no influence at all on
the behaviour and can be omitted without changing the results.

As I read in some other posts, sometimes putting the table in a float
can help, so I tried this (by removing the 3 "%" in the code below), but
there seems to be a conflict with the figure in the page header, and it
stops with an error message.

Don't use floats in the header or footer, they serve no purpose
and you can include images without it. Below is a solution
with nested frames but you can also use a table to create
the header layout.

However, replacing the figure in the page header by a normal text
suddenly solves the problem: putting "split" in the setupfloat and
"header=repeat" in the setupxtable gives me a table with repeated
headers that starts exactly where I want it to start. Apparently in this
case, the "headers=repeat" is necessary. Unfortunately, I need a company
logo up in the page header, which is what causes the error for which I
have no explanation.

Here is a working version of your example but you have to a space
between the header and the page body (see headerdistance setting)
or reduce the height of the outer most frame (it uses at the moment
the height and width of the header area).

\setuppapersize[A4,landscape]

\setuplayout
  [location=middle,
   width=27.5cm,
   height=18cm,
   backspace=1cm,
   header=4cm,

\startframed[width=0.50\hsize,height=max,] %
frame=off,topframe=on,bottomframe=on

some text in the middle block
\stopframed
\startframed[width=0.25\hsize,height=max]
some text in the right block
\stopframed

Can you make your example simpler and reduce it to the bare minimum
(replace your csv file which dummy content) which is required to show

Hi Geert,

this is the standard and intended behavior (documented on page 10 from
xtables-mkiv.pdf).

This is a known bug, already reported at the devel mailing list
(https://mailman.ntg.nl/pipermail/dev-context/2020/003694.html).

Well, these are different issues.

My guess: an alternative approach would be to use layers (and adapting
the topspace to the layer on the top of the page).

Re: [NTG-context] placetable and localfootnotes

2019-05-01 Thread Otared Kavian
Hi Aditya,

Thank you for your explanation: indeed when the whole table is included in an
hbox as you point out, the footnote mechanism and placetable work fine
together. But I am not sure whether this would be the case when a table is
split over two or more pages.

On the other hand, as I mentioned in another reply to Alan, the footnote
mechanism does not work within a framedtext, and I am not sure with your turn
around solution that would work. I will do some testing in a document where
exercises and proclaims are defined to be typeset within framedtext and if your
solution works I will let you know.

Best regards: OK

Usually, this is because the content of the float is in a vbox instead of
a hbox:

\starttext
\startplacetable
  \vbox{test}
\stopplacetable

\startplacetable
  \hbox{test}

Use your favorite mechanism to create a hbox around the content and the
output will be okay:

The following doesn’t help:

(I have found this necessary in the past in order to use footnotes in placed

[NTG-context] Expanding text across two table cells

2019-04-08 Thread Todd DeVries
Hello,

I use a progress note format which contains information that doesn't change
much from session to session. Items like date, location, people attending a
session. I would like to include two longer items, a diagnostic field and info
about guardianship at the end of a table. Both of these fields should span two
cells in the table and wrap to the full width. Currently, they wrap to the
width of the first table column. The cells appear to be spanned correctly, but
the text does not extend. What am I missing?

Thank you for the assistance.

Re: [NTG-context] xtable First row missing in document

2018-11-24 Thread Christopher Bock
When I remove the split from the xtable the file is compiling anymore.

See attached MWE.

I narrowed the problem down to the command "\setupinteraction[state=start]".
Without it, there is no error shown.

Error Log: I have no idea what the error message means.

Hi all,

I think I found another bug in xtable (or placetable).

The last table in the MWE is not showing the first row (the header row).

Remove the split setting (\startxtable[split=yes]) from the tables because
the "split" keyword
(\placetable[split]) from the float is enough to beak your tables across
pages.

What happens with \startxtable[split=yes] is that ConTeXt changes the number
of lines
it reserves on the current page before the break which isn't enough to fit
the first line
of the table together with the caption and the header.

[NTG-context] Overflowing text if placetable is set to split

2018-11-23 Thread Huseyin Özoguz

Hi all,

I encountered weird behavior if \placetable[here, split] is set. The text
after the table sometimes doesn't cause a pagebreak and flows into the
footer and overlaps the footertext instead.

See attached MWE.

Is there a way to avoid this behavior? Manually entering a page break is no
option.

Thanks,

Chris

Hi Christ,

can you give your complete code-example with this issue, then we might
solve it or suggest a workaround. I had similar issues several times and
can avoid them.

Thank you,

[NTG-context] Overflowing text if placetable is set to split

2018-11-17 Thread mailinglist.context
Hi all,

I encountered weird behavior if \placetable[here, split] is set. The text
after the table sometimes doesn't cause a pagebreak and flows into the
footer and overlaps the footertext instead.

See attached MWE.

Is there a way to avoid this behavior? Manually entering a page break is no
option.

Thanks,

Chris

Re: [NTG-context] Text around a table (xtables)

2018-10-10 Thread Wolfgang Schuster

Fabrice Couvreur schrieb am 10.10.18 um 20:09:

Hi Pablo,
Thank you, I thought that indicating width = 1.7cm, the size of the
cells would have been 1.7cm.

You’re correct and what Pablo meant is the textwidth option for natural
tables where you can set a width for the whole table.

The big space below the table in your example is a wrong calculation of
the cell height for the merged cells. The height is probably wrong
because ConTeXt uses the width of the first column (and not of all
merged cells) to determine the height.

\starttext

\startxtable[width=2cm]
    \startxrow
        \startxcell
            Column 1
        \stopxcell
        \startxcell
            Column 2
        \stopxcell
    \stopxrow
    \startxrow
        \startxcell[nx=2]
            Merged column
        \stopxcell
    \stopxrow
\stopxtable

\stoptext

When your goal of the merged cells is to create a caption for the table
you can use the “nonumber” keyword for placetable to get rid of the
label and counter of the float.

\starttext

\startplacetable[location={nonumber,right},title={A long title for this
short table}]

    \startxtable[width=2cm]
        \startxrow
            \startxcell
                Column 1
            \stopxcell
            \startxcell
                Column 2
            \stopxcell
        \stopxrow
    \stopxtable
\stopplacetable
\input knuth

\stoptext

Re: [NTG-context] \definetextbackground does not fill tables within

2018-08-13 Thread Alan Braslau
Floating objects (\placetable, \placefigure, ... and footnotes, etc.) do not
inherit the text background, for indeed, imagine that it floats to another
location.

Here, you use location=force, so one might expect it to use the text
background... In fact, side floats, location=left and location=right, do get
the text background color, so there is a *kludge* possible there:

\startplacetable [location=right]
  ...
\stopplacetable

\flushsidefloats

...

(incomplete example)

Alan

P.S. Hans: maybe location=force ought to work similarly with respect to text
backgrounds as location=left or location=right.

[NTG-context] \definetextbackground does not fill tables within

2018-08-13 Thread dxpublica

Hi,

I have simple document which I define my \definetextbackground:
\startteoria and \stopteoria (see below). When I use it and put table
within, the table does not get filled with color. Any solution?

Thanks in advance,
Xavier

\definecolor[teoriacolor][lightgray]

\definetextbackground[bteoria][
frame=off,
location=paragraph,
background=color,
backgroundcolor=teoriacolor, % fins aquí provat:

%width=broad,
%corner=round,
%radius=5ex,
leftoffset=10pt,rightoffset=10pt,
topoffset=10pt,bottomoffset=10pt
%offset=-5pt
]

\definestartstop[teoria][before={\begingroup\blank[big]\testpage[2]\starttextbackground[bteoria]},after={\stoptextbackground\blank[big]\endgroup}]

\starttext

\NC \FR

\HL
\NC Mostra: \NC La {\em part} de la població de la qual recopilem les
dades i estudiam.

\NC \LR

\stoptable}

Existeixen dues branques de l'estadística:

\startitemize

[NTG-context] Table generator : Issues with borders and rotated cells

2018-06-19 Thread Xavier Dionne
Hi everyone,

Excuse my poor English. I recently updated my online table generator
(http://latex-tables.com) to support ConTeXt. It also supports many languages,
like LaTeX, Plain TeX, Markdown, HTML and more. It uses the eXtreme table
format and supports many features including :
- Borders, border width and border color
- Merged cells
- Background color
- Alignment (flushleft, center, flushright)
- Splitted tables
- Rotated tables
- Caption
- More...

However, I have many issues that I have trouble to fix.

1/ I have many troubles with borders, because I can't set the color and the
width of each border. Instead, I use "fake rows" and "fake cells" when it is
necessary. However, I can't figure out how to set the height of a row to 0.4pt.
It's always bigger. So, instead I use "location=hanging" on this row but,
because of this, borders are hidden behind the next row's background. What can
I do about this ?

MWE without background color :

\definecolor[Siren][r=0.502,g=0,b=0.251]
\definecolor[Rose][r=1,g=0,b=0.502]
\definecolor[FlushOrange][r=1,g=0.502,b=0]
\definecolor[ElectricViolet][r=0.502,g=0,b=1]
\definecolor[Chartreuse][r=0.502,g=1,b=0]
\definecolor[BlushPink][r=1,g=0.502,b=1]
\placetable[none]{}{
  \startxtable[align=lohi,framecolor=Siren,frame=off,leftframe=on,rightframe=on]

  \startxcell\stopxcell
  \startxcell[framecolor=Rose]\stopxcell

  \startxcell\stopxcell
  \startxcell[framecolor=BlushPink]\stopxcell

}

MWE with background color

\definecolor[Siren][r=0.502,g=0,b=0.251]
\definecolor[Rose][r=1,g=0,b=0.502]
\definecolor[FlushOrange][r=1,g=0.502,b=0]
\definecolor[ElectricViolet][r=0.502,g=0,b=1]
\definecolor[Chartreuse][r=0.502,g=1,b=0]
\definecolor[BlushPink][r=1,g=0.502,b=1]
\definecolor[Dolly][r=1,g=1,b=0.502]
\placetable[none]{}{

\startxtable[align=lohi,background=color,backgroundcolor=Dolly,framecolor=Siren,frame=off,leftframe=on,rightframe=on]
\startxrow[offset=overlay,location=hanging,topframe=on,background=none]
  \startxcell\stopxcell
  \startxcell[framecolor=Rose]\stopxcell
\stopxrow
\startxrow
  \startxcell[rightframe=off,framecolor=cyan] A\stopxcell

  \startxcell\stopxcell
  \startxcell[framecolor=BlushPink]\stopxcell
\stopxrow
  \stopxtable
}

2/ I have trouble with rotated cells. It seems to affect the width of the
table. How can I use a rotated cell without setting manually a fixed width.

MWE :

\placetable[none]{}{
  \startxtable[align=lohi]
\startxrow
  \startxcell \rotate[rotation=90]{Test test test}\stopxcell
  \startxcell Test\stopxcell
\stopxrow
\startxrow
  \startxcell Test\stopxcell
  \startxcell Test\stopxcell
\stopxrow
  \stopxtable
}

Thank you !

[NTG-context] \startplacetable in \startcolumnset

2018-04-19 Thread Jeong Dal
Hi,

I used the following exam format well which was set by the help of Wolfgang
long time ago.

Recently I got a strange output when I used \startplacetable or \placetable in
the \startcolumnset … \stopcolumnset.
There is a strange number first and table in the next column.
The output is OK if I comment out either \startcolumnset or \placetable.

Is “\definecolumnset, \startcolumnset” still a good command? I couldn’t find it
in the list of commands.

Thank you for reading.

Best regards,

Dalyoung

Oh I sent my previous message too quickly…
I was just using the \at command for referring to captions, while you want to
use the \in command: maybe this is the problem.

Hi Bernard,

Transposing your table to an example given by Wolfgang Schuster some time ago I
obtain the correct behavior, but I don’t know where the problem in your example

Please see whether the following gives what you want and comapre with the PDF I

[NTG-context] Bug? numberstopper in references

2018-01-16 Thread bbvogel
Dear list,

When I use the numberstopper option in setupcaptions it appears
unexpectedly in the references. The wiki states otherwise.
Wiki and a working example are listed below.

Kind regards,

Bernard

wiki: http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Command/setupcaptions:

numberstopper MKIV only. The numberstopper text follows the number and,
if present, the suffix, and precedes the caption text. It does not
appear in references.

Working example:

\setupcaptions[table][numberstopper={:}]

\starttext

\placetable[here][tab:ships]{Ships that moored at Hasselt.}{
\starttable[|c|c|]
\HL
\NC \bf Year \NC \bf Number of ships \NC\SR

Dear List,

I have noticed that in normal combinations \setupcaption[location=...] is
not honored either. MWE:

\setupcaptions[location=top, number=no]
\starttext
\placefigure{Two Tables}{
  \startcombination
{\bTABLE\bTR\bTD First\eTD\eTR\eTABLE}{First}
{\bTABLE\bTR\bTD Second\eTD\eTR\eTABLE}{Second}
  \stopcombination}
\stoptext

The caption "Two Tables" is located above the combination. The captions
"First" and "Second" are, however, located below. How can I setup captions
such that "First" and "Second" are located also above? If this is not
supported then I would be glad to know.

By the way, I have noticed that \setupcaptions is missing from
i-context.pdf. Is this omission on purpose?

Kind regards,
Christoph

Thank you for your input, Hans!

I see that the captions "TABLE" and "FLOAT" are placed on top while the
captions "Two" and "Two" are placed on the bottom. Is there a way to setup
the locations of the captions of floats within a floatcombination? In this
particular example, the goal is, that the captions "Two" and "Two" are
placed on top of the respective tables.

Cheers,

[NTG-context] Caption location in floatcombination

2017-09-13 Thread Christoph Reller
Hi,

It seems to me that the location given to \setupcaptions is not honored
correctly in floatcombinations anymore. Consider the following MWE:

\setupcaptions[location=top, number=no]
\starttext
\placetable[][]{One}{
  \bTABLE \bTR \bTD First \eTD \eTR \eTABLE}
\placefloat[][]{}{
  \startfloatcombination
\placetable[][]{Two}{
  \bTABLE \bTR \bTD Second \eTD \eTR \eTABLE}
  \stopfloatcombination}
\stoptext

In earlier versions of ConTeXt, both captions "One" and "Two" of both
tables are rendered above the respective table. In the currently latest
version, the caption "Two" is rendered below the table. Is this a bug or do
I have to setup caption location separately for floatcombinations?

Any feedback is welcome.

Cheers,
Christoph

[NTG-context] Long and slender floating tables

2017-04-23 Thread Javier M Mora

Hi, I have several long and slenders tables like this:

---8<---

\starttext

Some Text at start.

% Point bA

\placetable[split]{My long table}{

% Point bB

\bTABLE[split=repeat]
\bTABLEhead
\bTR\bTD one \eTD\bTD two \eTD\bTD three \eTD\eTR
\eTABLEhead
\bTABLEbody
\dorecurse{100}{\bTR\bTD 1 \eTD\bTD 2 \eTD\bTD 3 \eTD\eTR}
\eTABLEbody
\eTABLE

% Point eB

}

% Point eA

Some Text at the end.

\stoptext

---8<---

Typesetting this tables are quite ugly because the wide white space each
side.

I think the ideal solution is to place columns inside the floating but
context garden wiki says float and columns doesn't work very well. I've
tried put in Points "bA" and "eA" and in "bB" and "eB" the commands

\startcolumn - \stopcolumn
\startsinglecolumn - \stopsinglecolumn

but unsuccesful.

I am thinking to cut manually the table but there are enough amount of
table to don't like the idea.

In the worst case, I'll force tables to start a page and cut them manually.

Questions:

* Is there a easy automatically system to cut tables in columns? How?

* Do you think/know a better way to show/expose data with this shape
(long rows and few columns)?

Thanks.
Javier M. Mora

[NTG-context] issue with xtables

2017-02-05 Thread Pablo Rodriguez
Dear list,

I have the following sample:

\setupindenting[yes, always, big]
\setupfloatcaption[table][location=none]
\setupfloat[table][indentnext=no, spacebefore=5em]
\starttext
\input zapf

\placetable{}{
\startembeddedxtable
\startxrow
\startxcell knuth\stopxcell
\startxcell \input knuth \stopxcell
\stopxrow
\stopembeddedxtable
}

\input zapf
\stoptext

I would like to configure a different spacing before and after the
embeddedxtable, but all options for \setupfloat in strc-flt.mkiv and
related to spacing don’t seem to work.

What am I missing in float spacing?

Many thanks for your help,

Pablo

Thank you. This forks for the distance between the rule and the top of the

but not for the distance between the bottom of the text and the following rule.
How would it be that?

[NTG-context] table and \setuptables questions

2016-11-17 Thread Csikos Bela
Dear list members:

Last time I sent this message to the wrong thread accidentally. Now I send it
again, hopefully to a new thread.

I have this simple table:

\starttext
\placetable[here]{title}{
\setuptables[bodyfont=8pt,rulethickness=0.04em]
\start
\setuplocalinterlinespace[2.2ex]
\starttable[|lp(5cm)|lp(5cm)|cp(2cm)|]

sollicitudin vel sodales eget Donec nunc lorem, sollicitudin vel sodales eget
\NC Donec \NC \SR
\HL[2]
\stoptable
\stop}
\stoptext

I have some questions related to the above table.

1. How can I set the distance between the text (in rows) and the rule above and
below the text, separately?
I find that the rules are too close to the text. I tried \setuptables' height
and depth options but those are not what I need. (For example the depth option
adds extra space in rows where it is unnecessary.) What are height and depth
options are for exactly?

2. Can \setuptables[bodyfont=...] option use font sizes as \tfa, \tfb, \tfc,
\tfx, \tfxx, or point size has to be
set explicitly?

3. What is the distance option in \setuptables?

Thank you in advance,

Argh, there was a voice in my head telling me that I've seen something
about this. I should have browsed through my mails before making noise here.

So let me use this thread to say thank you to all who worked on LuaTeX

Hi all,

with LuaTeX 1.0.0 I get an undefined control sequence error when
compiling an example from the wiki.

\placetable[force,none]{}{%
  \starttabulate[|r|l|]

}

or

\startplacetable[location=force,number=no]
  \starttabulate[|r|l|]
  \HL
  \NC I want this table \NC aligned in the center.\NC\NR
  \HL
  \stoptabulate
\stopplacetable

In both cases \stoptabulate is reported as undefined.

Without \placetable everything is ok.

Hi,

I updated my context (IV) installation recently and most of my
tabulations are not working when they are placed with \placetable.

Even the examples on the wiki do not work e.g. this aborts with an
undefined control sequence error for the \stoptabulate:

\starttext
This is a very long text, longer than the width of the table.
It must be long enough to flow to the next line to see the effect.

\startplacetable[location=force,number=no]
\starttabulate[|r|l|]
\HL
\NC I want this table \NC aligned in the center.\NC\NR
\HL
\stoptabulate
\stopplacetable

I traced it to ending with a \HL. It can be made to work if I add an
extra \AR after the final \HL

This must have something to do with page breaking in conjunction with
table splitting. The following MWE produces no error:

\starttext
\dorecurse{9}{\input ward}
\testpage[10]
\startplacetable[location=split]
\bTABLE
\bTR \bTD \input tufte \eTD \eTR
\eTABLE
\stopplacetable
\stoptext

On the other hand the following MWE produces the error, and of course
here, a testpage will not help:

\starttext
\dorecurse{11}{\input ward}
\pagebreak[disable]
\placetable[split]{}{
\bTABLE
\bTR \bTD Ups \eTD \eTR
\eTABLE
}
\stoptext

This is a long standing issue and I would very much appreciate any
comment on this.

The problem has been fixed.

I have some additional information:

1. This error is also occurs when using the inline version:

\placetable[split]{}{\bTABLE ... \eTABLE}

2. When adding \setupinteraction[state=start], then the error changes to:

! Missing number, treated as zero

{
\strc_floats_place_packaged_boxes_indeed ...bute {
  \doifelsemainfloatbody \cu...
\strc_floats_finish_placement ...e_packaged_boxes

  \doifnotinsidesplitfloat \...
\syst_helpers_loop_yes ...helpers_recurse_content
  \endofloop
...

3. This error happens in the currently latest version 2016.06.10_08:11
of context.
It is, however, also reproducible for earlier versions dating back at
least to 2015.06.12.

If there is any way I can help in resolving this issue then please let me know.

Kind regards,
Christoph

Re: [NTG-context] ntg-context Digest, Vol 142, Issue 52

2016-04-19 Thread Brian Ballsun-Stanton
I'm dealing with a 500 page book (if you give me your github username, I'll
happily add you to the repo) and many of these problems emerge only at
scale. (when I render individual chapters, there are no issues, but when
rendering the whole book, the tables just have all sorts of formatting
issues.)

Here's a working example

% engine=luajittex
\startenvironment env_trap
\enableregime[utf-8]
\setupcolors[state=start]
\setupreferencing[autofile=yes]
\setupinteraction[state=start, color=blue, contrastcolor=blue, style={\tf}]
\usemodule[simplefonts]

\usemodule[database]
% Enable hyperlinks

\setuppapersize [A4][A4]
\definepapersize[standing][A4][A4]
\definepapersize[lying][A4,landscape][A4]
\setuplayout[width=middle,  backspace=.75in, cutspace=.75in,
 height=middle, topspace=.5in, bottomspace=.5in]

\setupbodyfont[11pt]

\setupwhitespace[none]

\setupcaption[table][location=top]
\setupcaptions[style={\tfx}, width=.9\textwidth,align=middle]

   \unprotect
   \appendtoks
 \setupbackgrounds[\v!page][\c!background=\makeupparameter\c!background]
   \to \t_page_makeup_every_setup
   \protect

\defineseparatedlist[CSV]
  [separator={,},
   quotechar={"},
   left=\bTD,right=\eTD,
   first=\bTR,last=\eTR,
   before=\bTABLE,after=\eTABLE]

\setupTABLE[c][each][align=flushleft,style={\tfx},width=fit]
\setupTABLE[r][1][background=color,backgroundcolor=gray,style={\tf}]
\setupTABLE[align=middle]
\setuppagenumbering[alternative=doublesided]

\stopenvironment

\starttext

\placetable[here][tab01]{Kazanlak site numbers, aggregate area and average
area
through through time}{
\setupTABLE[c][each][align=middle,style={\tfx},alignmentcharacter={.},aligncharacter=yes]
\chardef\characteralignmentmode=2

Avg Area (ha),0.5,0.5,0.5,1.0,0.9,1.1,2.4,1.6,1.6,1.5,6.3

\stoptext

And I wasn't able to cause it to fail via a trivial 'making it a component'
and calling it from a project.

No ideas? Nothing I can do about this? :-(

[NTG-context] footnotes in floating tables

2015-07-19 Thread Henry House
I am using the following to style floating tables and am having some
difficulties with footnotes in the tables.

\enableregime[utf]
\setupbodyfont[modern]
\setupbodyfont[11pt]

\setupfloats[location=middle,spacebefore=0ex,spaceafter=8ex]

\setupcaptions[location=top,inbetween={\blank[0cm]},spaceafter=2ex,spacebefore=1ex,headstyle=\sc]
\setupTABLE[frame=off,offset=0ex]
\setupTABLE[c][distance=0.6em]
\def\tableheadrulethickness{1.0pt}

\defineframed[footnoteframed]\setupframed[footnoteframed][width=\hsize,frame=off,align=right,top=\hbox\bgroup,bottom=\egroup]
% Use the set of symbols that has become customary in many publications for
footnote marks, whose
% origin seems to be lost in the misty dawn of history:
\defineconversion[tablefootnoteconversion][*,†,‡,§,\textbar\textbar,¶]

\starttext
%%% Begin title page.
\startalignment[center]

\stopalignment
%%% End title page.

MkII --- this comes close to what I want.

- Captions are centered above the TABLE, more or less, and long captions
  are constrained to a width having reasonable relationship to the width
  of the TABLE.
- Footnotes in the caption appear in a block of reasonable width at the
  bottom of the caption above the TABLE.
- Footnotes in the TABLE appear in a block below the TABLE whose left
  margin matches the TABLE's left margin.
- Symbols are being used for footnote marks.

Problems:

- I'd like the very short caption of the first table to be centered above
  the TABLE, but what I actually get seems to be paragraph with an
  invisible right margin that is centered over the TABLE, but at the text
  does not reach the paragraph's right margin, it looks misaligned. The
  same misaligment occurs in the second table's caption, though it is
  not so objectionable there as the footnotes' texts fill the width.
- The block of footnote texts of the TABLE is not wrapped at a reasonable
  width --- they seem to be left-aligned, but their right margin runs off
  the page.
- I'd like one numbering scheme for the for the whole table (caption and
  TABLE), such that the caption's notes are numbered *, † and the TABLE's
  notes are ‡, §. What I actually get is *, † for both, i.e., the
  numbering resets between caption and TABLE.
- I'd like commas separating multiple footnote marks next to each other,
  as in the caption in the example.
- Minor: I'd like to suppress the table from being placed on the the first
  page of the document as it floats above the title block, confusingly. A
  minor problem as realstically a table is unlikely to be placed this early
  in a real document.

MkIV (with change from \setupfootnotes to \setupnotation[footnote] as
noted) --- there are several new problems.

- The caption's footnotes are not printed, though their marks are.
- The TABLE's footnote marks are not printed (unknown references), but the
  notes themselves are (though wrongly).
- The texts of all the footnotes in the TABLE are run together into a
  single line that doesn't break at all.

The second case, (\setup...[default][prefix=no]) works correctly, but the

Did you fix the typo in strc-ref.lua and regenrate the format?

Yes. Do these two example work correctly for you with the latest beta
(after fixing the typo and generating the format)?

Hi,

How does one control the referenceprefix for floats. I want to refer to
the
figures as only Fig 1, Fig 2, etc, even when they are numbered 1.1, 1.2,
etc.
There is a typo in strc-ref.lua which can by fixed by the following

changes.

Thank you. But even after make the appropriate change in strc-ref.lua (and
regenerating the format), the previous example does not give Fig 1, etc.

Am I missing something in the sttings?

Thank you Otared for your suggestion!

\startlocalfootnotes ... \stoplocalfootnotes only solves the problem
partially.

Solved: I can now use the usual \footnote{...} command and the footnote
does not disappear.
Unsolved: All the footnotes in the table still appear on the last page of a
multi-page table instead of the actual page where they are written.

To illustrate the latter problem I have a new MWE. The footnote mark in the
first table row receives a footnote text on the second page - it should be
on the first page.

Does anybody have a solution to this? Is it not supported? (I have ConTeXt

Thank you for any feedback,
