There is a pair of Common Ravens near Sabattis Bog (they take the food I
leave for Canada Jays after I drive away) and I observed mate-feeding on
1/24/22 (with the Canada Jay food!). I've been regularly seeing 10 Canada
Jays this winter at my 3 stops.

Just an update on snow conditions - it is thigh deep for me when I venture

bigger in size than a house cat! On 3 occasions, an Eastern Coyote showed
up with 2 Raccoons and they ate the corn side by side! And a beautiful Gray
Fox showed up several times. It was a fascinating summer/fall!

The Ross's has been out front here
four times today, 11am for about twenty minutes, three times since 2:45 in
half-hour cycles. I put out some baby clams. It's loving them.
It appears the Ross's Gull is being well fed! It definitely found the right
house!

Hi Everyone,
I received a call from Mike Chamberlain of Traverse City, Michigan - he and
his wife have been viewing the Ross's Gull since 7:20 a.m. (2/1/17) - it is
just to the north of the Tupper Lake boat launch! As of a few minutes ago,
they were still observing it.

The Ross's Gull chased a
Common Raven away from the food. The gull flies away when a Bald Eagle
flies in to feed, but it has been returning.

Massena - that was quite a surprise!

We found a singing White-winged Crossbill in Bloomingdale yesterday
(7/9/17)! Matt Young said he predicted this species would be in NY by the
end of July - he was right! There were also calling Red Crossbills. I'll
post more soon.

Alec Humann spotted a Gray Tree Frog in a bush at eye level in the
Bloomingdale area!
Other mammals observed during the past couple weeks: Porcupine, Snowshoe
Hare, White-tailed Deer, Eastern Coyote, Gray Fox, Muskrat, Beaver, and a
young Fisher on our lawn (cell phone video taken by my younger
nile.

vegetation (likely Pickerel Weed) and mussels (leaving piles of mussel
shells behind). I observed a Bobcat on 11/18/17! (Pelts can go for over
$1,000, so I would never disclose locations for this species.)

left Sabattis Bog, a male Black-backed Woodpecker flew across the bog to a
dead snag not far from us and the we had wonderful scope views! I was
really happy that he got to see all the specie

found 2 male White-winged Crossbills gritting in Sabattis Circle Road near a

On March 5, 2018, I observed a male White-winged Crossbill flying
aggressively at a perched male Red Crossbill near the inlet of Little Tupper
Lake (along Sabattis
imitation at Sabattis Bog (a Blue Jay has been giving it every day
since!). Red Crossbill - 6 (4 - two pairs along North Point Road and 2
along Sabattis Circle Road). White-winged Crossbill - 2 at the inlet area
of Little Tupper Lake.

On my drive to Long Lake, I listened for owls in a few locations. No owls
heard, but I found a Porcupine on Sabattis Circle Road!

tree in Stockholm (no Bohemians in the flock!)

zations - that Barred Owls immediately respond. We've
spent hours psychoanalyzing what could be going on between these two
species! We'll probably never know for sure what the vocalizations mean.

Boreal Chickadees, and a vocalizing Evening Grosbeak - in the exact same
location where I found several that I posted on 12/4/13.
On my drive back to Long Lake, I spotted over 20 Common Ravens at the Long
Lake dead deer dump location (near the town sign on Route 28N).

female with it and I suspect nesting is underway.

If you miss the ferry, you can simply head south and drive across the lake
