I got an extractor off of fleabay which looks just
like the Big Pela and Griot's but with a different
label. It works fine. I find that if the oil is good
and hot it works pretty quickly, but colder oil does
take forever (AMHIK: I once changed the oil when the
car had been driven recently so did not warm it up
again). I also like that I can extract the oil from
the filter canister on the E34, before pulling out the
filter element, then again afterwards. Makes for less
spillage and less old oil in with the new.

I have another question. If you look at the Griot's
catalogue (I get them every other week or so it
seems), they have a brake fluid extractor which looks
just like their oil extractor except with different
tubing and a valve to control the suction. I called up
their customer service to see if they would sell the
tubing separately but got nowhere. It seems that it
wouldn't be too hard to source the parts. Does anybody
have any recommendations?

Reed,

There must be something wrong with yours or you haven't properly warmed the
engine.

I also have the Griot's model and it only takes about 10-15 mins for a
complete pull. If the oil is cold/thick it can take longer.

My only complaint is the size. It holds 6.5l but if I'm running a little
high because I sometimes overfill for the track, it will overfill and make a
mess if I'm not careful.

I have the one from Griot's. Used it for the first time a week ago. Works
as advertised, just realize it takes about an hour to pull all the oil out,
as the extraction tubing is quite small, to fit down the dipstick tube.

I don't know, the oil was warm and I used the larger of the two extraction
tubes. I don't really mind that it took an hour, it just surprised me. Oh
well.

I bet it would be really quick if you hooked up the pump to a fitting
like this:

It just goes right into the drain plug hole. Cool, huh?

Hey, they DO actually give out some car advice every once in a while :-)

It is by far my favorite radio show, and some times it is side-splitting
funny. I thought I would injure myself, for example, when I first heard
the "sending vowels to Bosnia" letter.

Oh, yes. The beading was scary. So be careful. It took quite a bit
of 60ish to 30ish stopping for then to start doing any decent braking.

Gary,

I forget the viscosity for sure, but I think it was 20W-50. Even at 150K
miles the Typhoon didn't really use any oil.

How could I have screwed that up after so many years in the Ty/Sy community.
Geeezzzz. You have jogged my memory yet again, as I was using something like
0W-40 oil for faster turbo lubing reasons. Man, the memory ain't what it
used to be.

Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Rumor has it that the original U.S. E46 330i had a base suspension and
a sport package optional suspension, but that at some point the sport
suspension became standard on U.S. cars.

Another rumor has it that the standard suspension on the E46 330Ci is
the same (or really close) as the 330i sport package suspension.

Can anyone help verify this information? Does anyone know when these
rumored changes took place? The Golden Gate Chapter BMW CCA's
autocross classification team appreciates your help.

Any suggestions, touristy or not, walkable or cabable from mid-town?

Bimmerworld sells the Team Dynamics wheels - anyone have any experience
with these? I don't need the light weight for racing, they will only be
used for driver schools with R tires. But I do need a inexpensive, strong
wheel - and the fact they are available in black saves me refinishing
another wheel to black (my preferred wheel color). Just want to make sure
they would hold up to street use also.
