I knew you had some redeeming qualities, Jim. ;-)

The only real BMW color is Avus Blue... all others are simply different
shades of primer, awaiting their application of Avus.

'94 M5T - Avus
'94 M5S - also Avus.
'92 K1 - close enough to Avus.
'98 750iL/6 - silver primer, awaiting Avus.
'86 735i - black primer, awaiting Avus.
'01 R12C - yellow and black primer.
'98 Project C - will most likely be nickel plated instead of painted.

Probably still countable on one hand, though :-)

Avus blue is a really nice M5 color. And I guess they used it on the
'95 M5, probably 'cause they just needed a handy blue, and it was
available. :^)

Actually, I like Avus. But I don't think it is the special color my
E30 needs.

What about Atlantic or Pacific blue? A nice dark blue, non-metallic,
and they have a good heritage coming from the 2002.

It's also found on the E36 M3, '00 M5, and special-order E46 M3.

Think of it like Estoril but without the milk poured in.

Scott, may I suggest Montreal Blue? It's very dark however, so that may
not appeal to you.

For a guy who details cars...I am shocked you would suggest such a color...

;-)

Later,

Rich - would also recommend Avus Blue

Estoril was never an original E30 M3 color. Actually, there weren't any
"blue" E30 M3s were there?

There were, but not in the US. It was called Macau Blue. Pretty
color, actually.

Actually, there were blue E30 M3s - in Europe, apparently. But not
here in the U.S.

...I know I typed a "6", as in "E36 M3", but for some reason a "0"
came out. Yeah, that's it.

Sadly, I've discovered that what I've thought (for 8 years) was a
non-metallic color is, in reality, a metallic color. So I'll have to
pick a different color - you know, similar, but not Estoril or
metallic. Like the color of my old Fiat 124 Sport Coupe, maybe?
Hmmz...

Well, if you're not going to paint it Avus Blue, you might just as well
go with "Smurf" Blue.........

Well after cleaning the current one so many times, its
time to change it.
BMW went to the T type ICV in 88 or 89, mine is an 87
with the L type is there any reason to change mine
over to the T type, ie; better design.

I saw a recent announcement of an adapter that allowed an iPod to be used
with newer BMWs and this made me wonder if anyone knows of a way to connect
an iPod to the original (Alpine) radio found in a 1995 M3? I know it won't
be an elegant two-way full-control setup like on the newer cars, but is
there any way to just pump the music into the current system without
replacing the head unit? After years of fighting the CD changer it just
seems like a better option.

Thank you,

Kevin

Avus blue #276 is metallic. There are very few nonmetallic colors for BMW's
dakar yellow, alpine white, jet black, imola red.
