Though if the point of avoiding metallic colors is to avoid clear coat paint, all non-metallic BMW colors have been clear-coated as well since probably about 1996 or so when the final hold-out Dakar Yellow, became clear-coated Dakar Yellow-II. The instruments all work with no problems but the background lighting does not come on with the lights so I'm blind in the dark. I've tested the cluster and seem to have a good connection to the pins in the yellow connector. The light switch passes all continuity tests to the wiring so I'm at a loss. Does the switch provide a variable voltage to the cluster and the lights in the cluster go to ground or are the lights in the cluster at 12v and the variable voltage from the switch goes to 0v for full bright. You can cross the Supersprint, Ireland and every other after-market "performance" exhaust off your list since you have a $200 limit. You are pretty much stuck with Bosal, Ansa, Eberspacher, etc. (the OEM after-market replacements) and Ansa and Bosal after-market exhausts are routinely junk. Eberspacher will likely cost more than $200 as well. I would recommend a new E30 exhaust from BMW which should be approximately $225. I have a brand new, BMW Original Equipment E30 325is exhaust I need to sell...$175 (never got around to installing it before wrecking my departed 1989 325is). Two years ago the car refused to start at Lake Tahoe in the cold. She says the AAA guy who answered her call for help "fiddled" with the throttle linkage and the car started and ran fine all the way home. Next winter ('03) the same thing happened and this time the car was towed back to Sacramento at sea level, where the temperature was much warmer. The car started right up and ran fine until it came time for itsd its California smog test which it failed, That problem was remedied by replacing the cat and the 02 sensor, both of which had failed, however our mechanic could not pinpoint that as the cause of the car not starting in cold weather at high altitude. Now it is ski season again & Diane is loathe to head to the slopes without a positive diagnosis/solution. We beg the group for your collective/individual ideas/solutions to this so she can drive up to snow country with confidence & I can remain at home without worry. Seems to me I remember that all the rims had the same offsets and patterns except for the 7 series... is that correct?
