Application: e36 M3
Does anyone here know where I can find some e36 fog-light 'blanks'.
I've not been able to find a part number from the ETK for these. Maybe
I'm not looking in the right spot? Basically I want to fill the holes
in the bumper on a track car where the fog lights normally go. Any
ideas? I'm not after covers or lens protection, just a void filler I
can paint to match the bumper cover.
I swear I've seen some of these out there, but I'm unsure if they are
BMW parts or aftermarket? Perhaps from a vehicle from a different
market would have come without fog lights? I asked my local dealer and
he was absolutely clueless: "Didn't come with fog lights, did you buy it
new?" Yeah, and it came with oil too......I even pointed them out to
him on his ETK exploded view but he was unable to determine a part
number.
For obvious reasons I don't want to hang the heavy and brittle glass fog
lights on my track car and replace them all the time (at substantial
cost). Besides, it is rarely foggy at the track events I run. ;-)

Thanks!
Chet Dawes

You need to look under the "318" model.

My dealer wanted somewhere close to $35 each for the unpainted blanks.
I decided to just leave the holes. If you find the part number and a
reasonable place to get them, let me know.

Dan

Dan, they should be $35-40 total. I just put a set on my 93 325is.
I think I got mine from the BMW Store in Cincinnati (phone order).

Carlos.

Yup. And Toyo RA1s FWIW.
Why anyone would want to run MPSCs is beyond me. :-)

Bringing back some memories about that ICE9 vehicle... I remember it
had a trick exhaust system with some x crossover pipes from Dr. Gas.
Anybody recall anything about them? I'm not too far away from wanting
to do something to the exhuast system between the headers and the cat
and was thinking about 'good ol' ICE9 just the other day!

My opinion is to keep each set of 3 cylinders separate all the way to the
last muffler where blending the pressure waves will smooth out the sound
without interfering with the tuning.

Placing a connecting branch about 18 inches past the 3 into 1 merge may
improve tuning in some rpm ranges. The Dr. Gas thing is no better than a
connecting pipe.

Thanks for your input Gary. I will take as many opinions and
viewpoints into consideration before I start changing something
already working quite nicely. =-)

Is that for its rectal use option?

Neil,
I don't think so, but take a look around -- that's where you've got your

Guess I need to have a look at the rules. BMWs are already well represented,
so a co-worker and I formulated a "plan" yesterday - take a DKW 1000S, and
swap over an S6 engine, driveline, and suspension. Like Bill and Tammi's
Bavaria, but a bit more obscure. Alternatively, we could take an old Saab 93
and drop in a modern turbo Saab driveline. Wonder what else we've got down
in the basement? What class would a mid-engined V12 2002 be in? Brett, you
busy?

Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

After crawling out from underneath my well-furnished rock, I just read
about the Pontiac GTO, and was very impressed. Some specs:

- 400 HP Corvette LS2 engine
- rear-wheel drive
- nice interior (including nice seats)
- manual tranny available
- LSD
- 4 doors, 4 seats
- $33.6K

The only downside is that it's a bit porky at 3725 lbs, but its
weight-to-power ratio is still slightly better than that of an E39 M5 or
E46 M3.

I'm not in the least bit tempted, but this sounds like a flaming bargain.
Why couldn't someone get this, and assuming it's not already adequate,
beef up the tires, suspension and braking, and have a killer track car for
less than $40K?

Which leads one to the question of how tunable and responsive the car is
to suspension changes, which seems to be a forte (however you pronounce
it) of BMWs. BMW chassis seem to be tunable to very high levels of
performance as shown by their great performance on the racing circuit. Is
this true in general of any car --- if you throw enough money at it, you
can overcome any fundamental flaw in the car? So you need to just get a
RWD car with a beastly engine, and a decent suspension design, perhaps
like the GTO, and then tune the heck out of it? Or is it that the basic
BMW design are really favorable to high performance suspension tuning?
