I've said before that I'm more than a few seconds of the JS cars meaning that I have a long way to go. I admit that I seem to have a particularly fast car that is almost telepathic. It's easy to push hard in a car that won't bite you in the rear. > > It sounds to me based on some of your comments that you have > contributed to some dangerous situations as well (by no means > am I excusing the moving road blocks either and their > inability to recognize and acknowledge drivers/cars that are > lapping more quickly than they are). These are driving I try not to. I just try to back off a little going into a corner so that I have much more exit speed than the other. This creates the impression that I'm barreling down on them. Simply tailgating doesn't do this. I'm not trying to scare anyone or cause them to do anything but get out of the gas & let me try get by. Plus I don't want to be behind someone driving stupidly. > schools after all, not racing schools. Additionally, not Yea, but I can also sit bumper to bumper behind another car on the way home from work this afternoon. Come to think of it, I do that everyday. These are also supposed to be fun, and sitting behind a slower car lap after lap isn't a lot of fun at all. > everyone is going to have as much "Mad Skilz" as you > obviously demonstrate or have the intention of pushing their > equipment like you are. This is simply the way it is. You "Mad Skilz?" I wish....I saw some world rally video at lunch. Those guys have mad skilz. That being said, I'm running with guys who are in the advanced/solo groups & would expect a higher skill level. I would also expect more courtesy. Sorry, but I would expect an advanced group to be noticeably faster than the beginner groups, and every chapter I've seen talks up the schools as a way to explore the limits of your car and I expect the limits of my car are much higher than my skills for now. > should really consider getting into racing instead. Since I can barely afford to get to the track more than 1-2 times a year, I'd say there absolutely no racing in any future that I can foresee. Even racing something like a CRX runs way more than the $1000 or so a DE does. I know there's lots of people here who are in a position to go racing. I'm certainly not one. I just want to take my car to the track & have fun driving the wheels off the car. I have no aspirations of going faster or being competitive with anyone, just challenging myself to see if I can do better or go faster than last time, meaning that I improved. > > > I wonder what he's teaching people at CCA schools????? > > Me too. I was just trying to get by & into open track. FWIW, this guy passed me right after I came out of the pit lane in a no-passing zone without a point. I wasn't p.o.'d, I finished my warm-up lap & caught him while he was held-up by traffic & then paced him for a couple laps. This is one of the times I threw in the pit lane & waited, but he could've easily let me by...... I try to sign up for just lapping days now, as I'm willing to accept the consequences (i.e. don't expect to make an insurance claim), but I also like the prospect of possibly having in-car instruction. We here in the West are working on ways to build programs that continue the learning curve above the A group without forcing BMW CCA members to leave for other events or organizations. Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I had those types of things happen my first few years on track -- most notably being stuck behind a Ferrari F360 running 2:07's at Laguna in the "advanced" group. However, this is really a track steward issue more than a driver issue and, hopefully, the steward will either drop the driver down a group or ask them to leave if they don't start pointing people by and lifting. I got way too angry following that F360 and in hindsight it was a good lesson. Would have been better to go to the hot pit, let him run half a lap and then catch his ass again just to make it abundantly clear that a 12 year old 4 door sedan just ran him down on a race track. I went to speak to him in the paddock but decided against it when I approached the car and saw him standing there in his yellow racing suit to match his yellow car, smoking a cigarette, and bragging about how fast he was to about 8 friends that had come to watch him drive. roll-of-eyes. Kevin Kelly '91 M5 P.S. With that said, listening to two race-prepped Ferrari's blow by you at Laguna, barking fire as they downshift, is worth the price of admission for sure. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Ahh yup the Ferrari driver with the race suit. Could be easily confused with the Porsche driver with the race suit, they always match the car don't they? I'm sure every E30 track guy/girl has an E36 a-hole won't let him by story, every E36 M3 track guy/girl has an E30 M3 a-hole won't let him by story, are there any E34 525/535 guys that have E34 M5/E39 M5 stories? ;-) And I wonder what the Ferrari/Porsche/Lamborghini crowd thinks about all the BMWs at track events? "There goes that BMW driver that thinks their grocery getter is a race car?" :-) Carlos. For the total it would have been 94 bucks. I went to Moritz, and had the fog light replaced, and one doom light in the top, the others they didn't have. They didn't charge me a thing. Either the driver just pulled in when they smelled smoke or they very conveniently parked way out in the lot. Nah, I am too suspicious. Anyway that thing was really blazing with flames shooting up 10-15 feet from the rear engine area. I did not stay to see the outcome but it looked like it was going to be a total loss before any fire trucks could get there. -----Original Message----- From: Carlos Lopez [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, March 01, 2005 4:28 PM To: kjk; [email protected] Subject: Re: [UUC] E36 track car now...driving school road rage.. --- kjk <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > I went to speak to him in the paddock but > decided against it when I approached the car and saw > him standing there in his yellow racing suit to match > his yellow car, smoking a cigarette, and bragging > about how fast he was to about 8 friends that had come > to watch him drive. roll-of-eyes. Over the last few yrs the subject of good vs bad batteries has surfaced here intermittently . The current cold-spell here in Tenn has reminded me that our Toyota Tacoma (bought new Feb 1999 ) just had its sixth birthday with it's original battery still going strong . The 1995 BMW M3 I bought used in 1996 had its original 2 yr warrantied battery die quite precisely at 2 yrs and 1 month . WHY does a $13,000 Toyota come with a better battery than a $40k BMW ?? I cant imagine that the OEM cost to the manufacturer is so different between the two batteries, so is it the constant 'drain' of all the electronic gizmos that leads to such short life on the BMW? .The Toyota only has a radio-memory to keep alive throughout the dark of night ...Or should we all just plan to buy Toyota OEM batteries for our BMWs in the future?
