They didn't like the Z3 M Roadster at all. And they've never recommended
that anyone buy a BMW, ever. I'm pretty sure.

My bet is that you lost an accessory drive belt. Alternator stops turning,
giving electrical warnings. Water pump stops turning, raising engine
coolant temps. Easy fix, less than one beer if you drink the 12 oz variety
and not those little 7 oz bottles that Duane was always using to tell us
about his 9 beer jobs.

Car: 1987 325, just rolled over 211000 last night.

Last night, less than 10 miles from home the idiot lights came on for
the battery, brakes, ABS, and parking brake.
<SNIP>

My E30 did this exactly and I second Ed McV's suspicion of the fan
belts. Once the alternator stops spinning, all the lights idiot lights
come on and the temp climbs since the water pump has stopped.

As a side note, my car also periodically requires the "strong pimp hand
technique" on the temp gauge, completely independent of the belt
failure.

It is not as much a pimp hand as it is a smack down. Both my E30's
require a smack down here and there for the temp. gauge.

Hi all,
Our 1999 528it appears to have the dreaded ABS computer failure. I
understand they are rebuildable and found bba-reman.com as a rebuilder
on Ebay. Anyone used these guys? Any other vendors to recommend?

There's a nice '88 E24 on Ebay that is Euro spec. I used to have links on
this process but can't find them. Can anyone give me anything? I know it's
a hassle but the car is so good looking...

Hi,

I'm looking for a pair of 235/40-17 Pilot Sports.

My 2 current fronts have good thread on them, but the rears are close to
the wearbars. I'd like to get a matching set so that I could track the
car. I don't want mismatched front/rear tires.

If not, I will be forced to buy 4 matched tires and then sell my 2 front
Pilots. Hopefully someone has a pair of Pilots they don't need.

Also, anyone know what other cars uses this size of tires? (I want to
check their 'for sale' section to see if anyone has them for sale as well)

Thanks!

You want the deeper tread tires on the rear for street driving. Buying 2
for the rear and keeping the otherwise good ones on the front is very
acceptable. Or you can merely rotate your existing tires front to rear to
even out the wear. If a serious wear pattern has developed, front wear on
the outside and rear wear on the inside, front to rear rotation will affect
your effective camber.

Actually that would work. I think w/ the lower thread I could probably
get another 5k miles out of them. The deeper threads are easily somewhere
in the double digit range of miles.

The problem however is that I just got a nail (patched now) in one of the
lower thread tires. I wouldn't feel comfy tracking those. So now I'm
looking for 1 pair of pilots. (lucky it wasn't in the deeper thread
tires!)

A proper patch won't affect the tire's ability to withstand track use.
Sometimes speed ratings are dropped one notch when a tire is patched. That
would limit your speed to about 170 mph.

The part of the tire that touches the road is the tread, not thread. If you
happen to have actual tread depth measurements, I could be more helpful.

Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Hi All:

Quick question.....my son's '96 E36 M3 started running very rough tonight on
his way home from work, and the check engine light came on. Car has been dead
nuts perfect and well maintained @ only about 40k miles. Any clues what this
could be? I know this isn't much info...just wondering if anyone has had a
similar problem...and the cure?

Not without more info. I can toss a bunch of "likely" culprits
(misfire/bad cam sensor/crank sensor/injector/coil/large EVAP leak/etc.)
Looking at my Peake code chart for a '96 M3 (same as for my '98 M3, BTW),
there are ~99 codes listed. Gotta narrow it down somehow :-)

> I know this isn't much info...just wondering if anyone has had

The only way to know for sure is to read the what the fault code is (well,
I guess you could just start poking around and replacing random
components, but the engineer in me would never allow such a suggestion
:-)). Either a dealer/independent mechanic or a local person with a Peake
code reader (if you're in the East Bay, CA mine's available) can read the
code in about 30 seconds. Way more efficient :-)
