I have no idea if the invitation I sent from their web site functions when it shows up on one of the mailing lists, so just in case, here is the link: http://www1.snapfish.com/share/p=212131152827544140/l=110286554/g=40323918/cobrandOid=1000131/otsc=SYE/otsi=SALB Once there, click on View Now or some such. The green E30 is the only one that was cleaned for the photos - the others are filthy. The green car has since been sold. When I didn't know the wheel style, someone sent me a photo of what looked like the same wheel on a Z1, along with an explanation that they were possibly standard on Z1s. Thus my confusion, this time. Of course, I then forgot the style name/number again. So now I have your former wheels and also your former sun visors. At this rate I'll have an entire former Ben Keys E30 by, oh, the year 2074. I am using them in an E36 328 sedan with the factory lower suspension. This lower suspension stopped me from getting much less expensive Bilstein touring shocks because Bilstein said there was not enough suspension travel. Fronts for the Konis are adjustable while installed. Rears need to be compressed and turned to adjust. I am thinking leaving them full soft, but would like some input from the experienced. Most effort car will ever see is the TSD rally at o'fest. Otherwise it is a city street, beltway use car with auto trans. It might be because the mantra of this list is that stock E36 shocks don't have a reasonable life expectancy, particularly for the Ms (though I fared pretty well with my 325). Regarding Ed's original setting. You may as well leave them full soft to maximize comfort. Since you're not stiffening the springs, you should be OK, esp since they're repaving the major highways around DC these days. Koni SA aren't THAT harsh. I suspect the harshness I added to my '93 325i was from the stiffer springs, not the shocks. Bilstein Touring (TC) dampers can be fitted with lowering springs. BTDT, 35mm drop in a specific BMW application with no bottoming-out. I wasn't suggesting OE replacements at all. There are a variety of good fixed dampers at a lower cost, and even complete sporting/comfort damper _and_ spring sets for around the cost of an adjustable unit. I'm a strong believer in "the right part for the job" - there is no "best" suspension, it's what is "best" for one's individual needs. I'm not sure Ed is best served with components that do things with abilities beyond his requirements. As the E36 springs themselves change characteristics with age, I consider the springs a maintenance item that are due to have been replaced in the majority of E36s by this time. - Rob ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 14 Jul 2006 11:12:00 -0400 From: Ed MacVaugh <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [email protected], [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: E36 suspension Koni settings Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Car came with this "M-technik" Low-Slung suspension. I had to get that suspension, because I wanted the sport seats, and full OBC in 1996, and that was the only way to get the package items I wanted. That suspension is noticably lower than the non-sport suspension and just barely clears my driveway incline. I have researched the suspension and it consisted of valved Sachs Boge shocks, specially for that package, lower front and rear springs that were also used with the AVUS edition Motorport package (albeit with Bilstein Shocks), and a larger rear anti-sway bar. They also use 8 mm shorter front bumpstops. My cost with discount from the dealer for those Sachs Boge shocks new would be $690. My cost for the Bilsteins from the AVUS edition would be $799, both plus tax. All the interchange information for Boge Gas, KYB, Tokico, Bilstein Touring (really Sachs Boge) say not to be used with the M-technik suspension. Bilstein Sport and Koni Yellow both say including M-technik. I didn't buy the Koni shocks because they had "track leanings" but rather because their manufacturer acknowledged knowing about my particular suspension, and offered a product that would work with my particular suspension. I negotiated the Koni set between AJUSA and Shox.com and paid without tax, $590 delivered to my office from Koni's Kentucky warehouse. There are externally adjustable ones that would've made this a non-issue. Open the trunk if you want to adjust, make a little cut-out on the carpeted trunk liner so you can reach the top adjuster easier. Carlos 98 M3 with SA Konis (all ext. adj.) and no trunk liner. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! I think a lot or owners don't realize the degradation in handling and ride quality due to suspension bushings wear, and replace shocks, struts, and sometimes springs instead.
