But he has to carry that extra weight around with him, and who knows how
far those tabs are from the roll-center, so they could really weigh a lot
more than they look!

David, modern BMW speedos are notorious for being optimistic. FWIW, my 93
325is is exactly 1mph high. My g/f's 97 328i is 5-6mph high.
You should seek the aid of your local highway patrol to check that speed
for you...:)~

Don't take Steve's advice, he lost his license and now he can't drive...

By the way, put the baffle/air horn back into your airbox, you might gain
another 1 kmh (as it
helps to direct air properly into the intake).

:-)

Regards,

Rich - has had Ate rotors that weren't true (excessive run-out) right out of
the box but have had
good success with Balo and Brembo being true.

Steve should come over here.... its perfectly legal to drive with an open
cantainer of beer!!!! Only (US)on-base can that get you into trouble. :)
Hell.... you can even buy a beer at any hour of the day!!! And the Germans
even have a can'd beer called a Radler that is half beer and half sprite. ;)))

bye
David

PS: I heard the average German drinks 175 Liter of beer per year. That
doesn't include going to any OcktoberFests! lolol

I hate when that happens.

....................

Hi All,

Actually they make them that way on purpose!! There is this German law that
say the speedo can NOT display a slower speed than actual ie it has to read
higher or perfectly the actual speed. So.... they all read slightly higher
than
actual. I know mine reads 32kph when I am really driving 30kph on base. At
least that is when all those radar displays say I am doing.

As for my local highway patrol... we have none! That is what $6 a gallon
gas prices do. Its just too expensive to have a mass fleet of cars driving
around. The cops only go out when there is an accident or on the rare case as
an
unmarked autobahn polizei car with hidden cameras to catch bad driving. But
this is rare. More often, you will see a move-able camera that takes pictures
for
speeding or for tailgating from a bridge or shoulder of the road.

The German Polizei couldn't care less how fast you drive. They are more
concerned with more important things like tailgating and driving too fast for
conditions and checking to see if your can has the right tires on them for
summer/winter!! Just as it should be. ;))

bye
David

That air horn having any contribution to increased performance is a myth.
................

Hi Gang,

You know that is what I though too. My seat of teh pants dyno says there is
no Hp gain except for added noise. However.... I know my car before would
only go 230kph. Now it goes 243kph. Same strech of autobahn, same day. Just to
see if this was a fluke I put the airhorn back in(that day) and drove back down
that very same autobahn. 230kph! So.... I left it out and I dare say, the
car will go faster without this airhorn in place. On the low end it makes no
difference what so ever. But I guess when I am pulling 5500 plus rpms, it must
make some differnce. I have just the oem paper Mahle air filter. No chip.
Nothing else. All stock as far as I can tell. I think the euro cars must have
some
extra high end grunt because when I have raced US spec cars(same car
model/engine) on the autobahn I can pull away from them. Just my two cents.

6 throttle plates on the intakes and 6 gears in the tranny, is it not?
~TomTom [EMAIL PROTECTED]
..............
Hi
No. My car is a 323i (2.5L six) e36, with a 5speed tranny. Only the euro M3s
had that lovely setup with the six throttle plates.
Btw... all German cars are limited to 250kph - by a Gentlemans agreement. Only
Porsches are built with no speed control. That said... you can pay €2,000
(yes thats right) for a chip that does nothing else but remove this speed
governor.
If you want a performance chip it will costs anywhere from €600 to
€2,000!!!! Everything costs more money over here!!!! A bottle of Mobil-1
will cost you $15 at a discount shop, $25 a liter at a gas station!!!!!! That
said, most OEM parts prices I find are slightly cheaper than USA prices I see
in Bimmer Mag. I paid €38 for my metal impeller water pump, a Mahle oil
filter costs me €6, it cost me €24 for my upper strutt bearings. Just three
examples.
Take careDavidGermany

CRP is Continental Rubber Products. Same people that make many of the
OEM hoses and belts.

I don't know if that makes them as good as OE or not, but at least
they're not some no-name company out of Uzbekistan.

I think they're just locating nubs. They keep pressure on the gasket to
hold it firmly in place.

Hello all,
Being new to the list, I don't know if this has been addressed, but didn't see
anything in the archives...

I have been noticing an intermitent problem on shut down lately... the oil
warning light glows yellow afte rthe car has been shut down and the key removed.

It will go out once the key is turned to the "aux" position.
If the car is turned on an then off, it will not come back on all the time...
it seems to illuminate yellow only after driving for 5 or minutes AFTER the car
is warmed up.

Any help will be appreciated... (the car is still under warrenty, but I want to
point the service tech's in the right direction)
the car is a 2003 325xi, manual trans. w/ sport package... the car is my S.O.'s
daily driver.

Thanks,

Yellow means low oil. Check the engine oil level.

There has also been a lot of failures of the oil level sensor in these
vehicles.

Very clean interior. I'll stop short of calling it immaculate, but it's
very very clean.

Exterior is OK, just. No rust. Dent in driver's door, a couple in the
hood and one on the fender lip, right front.

Photos on request, if it stops snowing.

The story;

Bought this one from a customer over a year ago. Dead Nikasil engine.
Crank, no start.

Picked up a wrecked 1993 740iL with Alusil motor. Unknown miles on
motor, 139K on car. Obviously less than that on the motor. Car was
still somewhat drivable. Engine idled rough, but was strong.

Pulled motor. Replaced all gaskets except head gaskets. Intake gaskets
and the rear cover plate were replaced, to take care of the rough idle.
Multiple other parts, can email list on request, replaced, both on the
engine and throughout the car. New trans cooler, trans service ($400
in our shop) with correct fluid, all other fluids changed too.

Mille Miglia wheels, 15", don't know the model, look at the photos
you're going to ask for. (which I'll take as soon as it stops snowing,
remember....) New tyres, haven't bought them yet. Brand name but
nothing fancy unless you want to pony up the price difference.

128K miles.

Anyone interested in a car like this? I initially bought it to fix up
and use as a customer loaner, but it's really too nice to let our
customer's kids beat it up.

KBB low is $5880, Good is $6715. Asking $6200

Thanks

Brett Anderson
