I've gotten tickets in every car I've owned (and in one I didn't :-)).

It's not the car. :-)

I was in PEI on business for 3 weeks at the end of October last year
and saw very few as well. I believe I saw a couple of E36's and an
E30 convertible and that was about it. At that time of the year the
tourists are already gone and with the local economy very few people
can afford them.

As for the Confederation Bridge, I decided against leaving the island
because of the high cost. Actually, I believe its less expensive to
take a ferry.

Here are some pics I took on that trip. Sorry, no BMW's, but they
give you a good idea of what the place looks like...a very pretty
place (when the sun comes out). FTW, we stayed at The Inns on Great
George and I highly recommend it if you find yourself needing a place
to stay in Charlottetown.

You may recall a slowly failing headgasket was pressurizing the cooling
system on my 1990 535iA at 160k and making me chase my tail trying to find
out why the thing was overheating every day or so. I pulled the head and had
Mike Perkins at Bavarian Machine in Houston rebuild it. Compression test
shows excellent numbers. Unfortunately, I now have a miss across the entire
rpm range and gas mileage is down 4mpg.

Here's the situation:

No fault codes
Valves set at .013
Timing double checked
Good spark at each cable
Plugs not new but look good
New rotor
New O2 sensor
New temp and gauge sensors
Good fuel pressure
Throttle position sensor checked OK
New vacuum hoses with no apparant leaks
Vacuum at 15 psi steady

I feel my next steps are to check the AFM (original) and then perhaps delve
into the wiring harness, but after that I'm stuck.

Any words of wisdom or wise ass words are appreciated.

Thanks,
Robert

Try running without the O2 sensor connected.
Maybe put your old coolant temperature sensor back in.
Also, check for secure ground strap connections to the injector rail.

Consider inspecting the injector loom to make sure each wiring plug is fully
clipped onto the injector. You may have only 5 injectors firing. I don't
think that will throw a code either....

Seen this before on a friends car; can't recall what it did to the mileage
but I do remember it didn't run very well.

There's an even older article than this that Bedard or Csere actually did the
energy comparison of electrics to gas burners...
INCLUDING havesting the raw materials, refining/generation losses,
piping/transmission losses, storage effieciencies, and so on all the way to the
wheels... (this was the one about 5-10 years ago now... about the same time the
EV-1 came out)

If my hazy memory is somewhat correct, a gas-burner got something like 40%
effieceny, while the electric was something like 2%, and here's the kicker...
here in my home state of NJ, that electrical power is gotten by coal, which he
then went on to show the differnce in amount of pollution created to go the
same distance (exhaust+ refining vs coal-stack emissions...)

THAT one was truly eye-opening.

The main environmental benefit of an electric car is that it moves the
combustion pollution someplace else. The car doesn't contribute to local
smog accumulation wherever it's used. This is a health and political
benefit, not a net planetary-scale environmental benefit.

Depends on how you look at it. Considering that energy plants are often
near farm country, would you prefer the carcinogens in your air or in your
food? What about how those who live in those areas feel about the increased
pollutants?

Sure. but it takes but one Chernobyl.......and the public says I don't want
it in my back yard.

I'm all for alternate (and clean) energy including nukes, but as usual the
politics have little to do with science.

Ryan,
Remember this too..........
Coal fired plants put out more cumulative uranium, thorium, and mercury
than any nuke.
