Hello there,

What a horrible day. It feels like mid-winter, let alone mid-August. Ah well,
all ammunition for my chat with Snow White's little helper! Still it's given
me a good excuse to read the e-mails and there have been plenty. I talked
yesterday about SUDOKO and it's opened a can of worms. It seems the world has
gone SUDOKO mad. I have had loads of replies after yesterday - I still can't
get my head round how it works. Mind you, I was a bit embarrassed by one
e-mail about an eleven year old boy who's apparently an expert ( eleven!! I'm,
er, several decades older and I still can't pronounce SUDOKO properly let alone
do it) We're hoping to get Carol Vorderman on the show soon-she'll put me
right!

LAST NIGHT
=========

We had a huge response to our first round of voting on our new name after last
night's show. We had the first of two shortlists of six final names……. I can
tell you that after one day of voting on the first six finalists, there is one
name which is way out in front.
It goes without saying that you can still vote to keep Look North. Last night
on the show pop idol star Roxanne was quite clear she wanted to keep Look
North.
Voting on the first six finalists goes on 'til midnight on Thursday. Then next
week we have the second six and then the week after the Big Vote and out what
the new name is, if there is to be a new name!!

TONIGHT
=======

The show tonight looks another busy one. We have another Leave it to Levy, the
latest news from around our region and a reminder of the voting on the name
change. We shall also have some more on the BBC's voices project and tonight
we shall be hearing from Roxanne who this past year has done much to advertise
the Hull accent to a wider audience!!!

GET IN TOUCH
===========

I am sorry but yesterday I said my e-mail was at the bottom of the letter and
you are right - it was not!!! You can e-mail me anytime directly at [EMAIL
PROTECTED] This e mail comes to me directly, please feel free to pass it on if
anyone has anything I should hear about.

BLACK AND WHITES
================

The tension is building up to the big game. I must ask Paul today about the
forecast for South Wales. I know that many people for different reasons are
unable to go to Cardiff. Just a reminder that if your staying behind the only
thing you need with you this week and over the weekend is Radio Humberside-
need I say more!!!!

WATCH THAT THUMB
=================

Are you a serious texter? Well according to research just out, text addicts
face the prospect of a crippling injury. Constant texting using only the thumb
to type can cause repetitive strain injury, producing pain and swelling in the
tendons. I have just realised that I don’t even use my thumb but just my index
finger {and very slowly as well} so I should be OK! However, I have just
studied my mobile phone bill and I cant tell you what the text bill is. I am
embarrassed by it.

COAST
======
I have loved the TV series Coast and this Friday at 9pm on BBC2, you will not
want to miss an edition of the programme which goes from Robin Hood's Bay down
to Hunstanton. The geographer Nicholas Crane retraces the steps of smugglers
in Robin Hoods Bay, before heading to Grimsby to discover what's next for the
fish finger and how the draining of the fens made our coastline literally grow.
   Historian Neil Oliver looks at two very different seaside resorts,
Scarborough and Butlins in Skegness. Archaeologist Mark Horton takes to the
Humber in a replica of Europe's oldest sea-worthy boat. After Look North on
Friday night, you'll be able to press "red" if you have interactive TV, to see
some extra material about our part of the coastline. There are also some
suggested routes for local walks. You can find more details on our websites
at http://www.bbc.co.uk/humber/coast05/index.shtml and
http://www.bbc.co.uk/lincolnshire/content/articles/2005/07/20/coast05_walks_star!
 t.shtml

I had better get on, don’t forget spread the word about signing up for the
daily letter to be in the know. The address is at the bottom of the letter and
If you want to write to me direct its [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Have a good day

Peter
