Hi there,
It's Friday - and as I sit here at 6.2Oam looking out over Victoria Dock {with
a cup of black coffee} it looks another lovely day. We are so lucky that we
get more sunshine in Hull and Beverley than anywhere else in the country and
apparently thats a fact. Let's hope we have more days like this in September
and have an Indian summer. Whatever you are doing this weekend, I hope it
goes well. I am sure I shall end up sitting at the marina again, watching the
boats. I love it down there. I am very cross this morning after talking to
that man on the show last night who was running Hull down. It is just as well
I was on the TV or I would have told him what I really think!! It seems it's
open season to have a go at Hull on the television and I am fed up of it. I am
not alone - I have an avalanche of e-mails this morning about last night's
interview - most of which are not fit for broadcast! I am sure that this one
will run for a few more days and we'll get some of t!
he reaction on tonight's Look North. The actual programme which has caused the
debate is called 'It's Grim up North' and it's on BBC2 tonight at 10pm if you
want to see it!!!!
TONIGHT AT 6 3O
=============
As well as reaction to that programme, we shall have all the days news and
also meeting an actress who starred in Bad Girls on the TV - who is on her way
to Hull New Theatre. It's nearly at an end! Tonight we announce the final
FOUR in our name change campaign. Then at the start of next week its the
final - and the big vote to find out what the name will be ( if there is to be
a new one). Tune in at 6 3O tonight to find out what the final four are, after
thousands of votes.
LETTER
======
If you are chatting with family or friends over the weekend, then spread the
word about Look North and the LL and if there is anyone who would like a daily
Letter. Then, get them to sign up by going to one of the two addresses below
and click on "Levy Letter" to follow the instructions through.
BIRTHDAYS
=========
This has taken off very quickly indeed. I feel like I have gone full circle,
back to my very early radio days when we used to read out birthdays. I had an e
mail yesterday from SUZANNE CARTER - it's her 30th birthday today so all the
best to her. Suzanne says that she looks forward to getting her Levy Letter
everyday - quite right!! Happy Birthday Suzanne.
INCREDIBLE
==========
We have all been stunned by the pictures of Hurricane Katrina. It is hard to
believe but I had an e mail from a man who watches the show every night on
the internet and says that despite being caught by the hurricane and loosing
his electricity, he still managed to watch the show on his battery powered
computer and thanks us for keeping him in touch with the outside world.
Incredible.
LINCOLNSHIRE FLAG
================
We were asking last night on the show about choosing a design for a flag for
the county of Lincolnshire. In Matt Richards' report, he showed us six
possible designs to vote on. As ever you take it very seriously indeed
..and
the first e mail I opened was from Steve who says 'we are wasting money on a
flag when we could so easily fly one of Paul Hudson's wonderfully coloured
jackets up a pole' . I just love the ones like that.
MOBILE USERS
============
I guess I am more guilty than most for using a mobile phone ( how did we manage
before they arrived?) so I was pleased to read that using a mobile phone for up
to ten years does not appear to increase the risk of brain cancer - according
to scientists. A team has found that there was no link between mobiles and
acoustic
neuroma - a rare, benign cancer of the nerve connecting the inner ear to the
brain.
FINALLY
=======
If you have time to drop me an e mail or if there is something that you think
would make a good story for the show, then get in touch when you can. My
direct e mail address is [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Have a good weekend and join me tonight at 6 30
Peter
