Hello, it’s Peter here and welcome to Friday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day’s
going well and you’re looking forward to the weekend.

Tonight at 6.30pm

Join me for all the day’s news tonight on BBC1 at half past six and the Friday
edition of Look North. As Europe’s largest fair gets underway in Hull, we shall
be at Hull Fair tonight. Lisa will have the weather forecast and I’ll also be
talking to actress Amanda Mealing. Amanda plays Connie in Holby City and has a
really juicy story line coming up next week. So we’ll be talking to Amanda
tonight about playing a doctor and about living in Lincolnshire.

Sleeping

We got onto the subject yesterday of snoring and the problems associated with
snoring. We had a note here, and I’m not going to say the name, because it’s
quite an emotive letter in some ways, but let me just read it to you. “I speak
from personal experience, sleep apnoea and its symptoms have put a severe
strain on my relationship and family life. I was diagnosed with sleep apnoea
and am having 33 apnoeas an hour when asleep. This is when I stop breathing 33
times an hour, less than one every two minutes. This destroys your sleep and
makes you tired and irritable and depressed. I haven’t been able to work since
November last year and I’ve had to surrender my driving licence. People with
sleep apnoea are seven times more likely to be in a serious car accident than
people who don’t suffer from it. My partner has been through hell with me on
this one and she has still remained positive. I am receiving absolutely
brilliant support from Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospi!
tal. The consultant is excellent and the staff are wonderful people. They
realise the serious implications of the condition, not just from a personal
point of view, but also from a medical point of view.”

I had quite a few emails on the subject of snoring, but that one, I thought,
from Gunness in North Lincolnshire was particularly emotive.

My Generation

People round about my age, a little above and a little below, remember with
affection Pan’s People. They used to dance on Top of the Pops once a week and
Pan’s People still cause blokes of a certain age to go all misty eyed, even
though it’s thirty years since the troupe, renowned for their cheesy dance
routines, hung up their outfits. Well, for the first time, since 1976, four
members of the original line-up of Pan’s People have got together for a TV
advert. It’s for an energy drink for those who are now over fifty. A little bit
too close to home that one! There you are. Pan’s People make a return.

Sudoku

I remember we got on to the subject of Sudoku a few weeks back. Well, I see
from the paper this morning that it is the quiz that’s taken the UK by storm
and now Sudoku has won a new honour as word of the year with a future place in
the Oxford English Dictionary. And I still see that the papers are running it
every day. And judging by the number of emails I’ve had on the subject and also
for my birthday a friend of mine bought me a Suduko book, it’s still very much
with us.

Leave it to Levy

Don’t forget if you’ve got a problem that you think I may be able to deal with
on the programme or tackle or take on, then do drop me a line. Give me the
details and a contact number as well. For Leave it to Levy, contact me at
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Levy Letter

If you’re around with friends over the weekend and they haven’t yet signed up
for the Levy Letter and you think that they may like one, then point them in
the direction of the two addresses at the bottom of the page and sign up.
They’ll get a confirmation email that will say they’ll start getting their
daily Levy Letter from Monday.

That’s it for today. Join me tonight at 6.30pm on BBC1. Have a great weekend
and I’ll speak to you on Monday.

Take care
Peter
