Hello there. It’s Peter here. Welcome to another week of Levy Letters. I hope
your weekend was good whatever you did. The weather was certainly better on
Saturday, as advertised by Snow White’s little helper.

I went to see Blood Brothers on Saturday night. We interviewed Linda Nolan on
the programme a couple of weeks back. The musical still fills theatres wherever
it goes. Hull New Theatre was sold out the whole week, which was great news.
Blood Brothers is still running in the West End after about eighteen years. It
really is a fabulous musical. And unlike so many others, it actually has a very
strong story line. So we got there on Saturday night. The theatre was
absolutely full. Just before the performance was going to start, there was an
announcement to say who was playing what. But one of the parts, Mrs Johnstone,
wasn’t being played by Linda Nolan. She was off and nobody knew about this and
of course there were all the usual whispered voices saying ‘ooh they didn’t
tell us and oh we didn’t know’. Anyway they made the announcement of the name
of the woman who was the understudy, the performance started and it was
brilliant. The understudy was absolutely magnificent and I w!
ould go as far as to say that she was better than Linda Nolan when I saw her a
couple of weeks back. Absolutely brilliant. Unfortunately though, I can’t
remember her name, if anyone can help me out with that, we’d certainly like to
give her a mention on the Levy Letter and indeed on the programme.

Tonight at 6.30pm

On tonight’s programme, there’ll be of course all the day’s news, and I’m also
embarrassed to say that Paul Hudson (can you believe this) is on week’s leave!
It’s hard to believe isn’t it? But he is. I understand that this is his last
holiday for some while. It’s probably a permanent one! And Lisa Gallagher will
be with us at half past six.

Photos

Keep your photos coming in for the Big Screen. If you like taking photographs
and have some particularly scenic views from around the region that you think
would look good on the programme then send them to me. The usual email address
is [EMAIL PROTECTED] Or if you’ve got a hard copy of a photograph that you
wouldn’t mind me having that you think we could use on the programme then send
it to me at BBC Look North, Queens Court, Queens Gardens, Hull, HU1 3RH.

Fraisthorpe

I had a letter this morning from a ‘sand yachter’ asking for some coverage of
sand yachting on the programme. Thank you for that one. And I’m glad the letter
was sent to me, because a few weeks ago I went to Fraisthorpe beach and I
completely forgot to mention it in the Levy Letter. What a great place that is!
It’s probably no more than 25 minutes from Hull. They do a lot of sand yachting
on the beach there and a lot of kite flying and it’s a brilliant place for
swimming. But it’s such a long beach and it’s just so unspoilt, the beach is
fab and it just goes on forever. Great place and probably no more than 25
places from Hull. I’m not sponsored by the tourist board you understand, I just
think it’s a fab place. If you’ve not been yet, then it’s well worth a visit.
Completely unspoilt. There’s nothing there. There’s no cafes there or
amusements, there’s just the beach, but it is terrific.

Katie Melua

Last week, was the 21st birthday of one of the most talented singer/songwriters
that we’ve got around at the moment – her name is Katie Melua. And her new
album is out today. It’s called Piece by Piece and again it’s another
collaboration with Mike Batt. The single ‘9 million bicycles in Beijing’, which
is getting lots of airplay at the moment on the radio, is from this album.
Because several people have asked to have Katie on the programme, we are of
course looking into it. She’s hugely busy and is now becoming a real big star.
Well we’re trying and I’m told by one of the producers of Look North that we
may have Katie on the programme in the next few weeks. So certainly looking
forward to that! Katie Melua – her new album is out to buy today!

And just finally a mention that last week, we had some really big stars on the
programme, and it looks like we’ve got even more this week! Tomorrow, Tuesday,
on the programme, we shall be talking to the one and only Linda Barker. Of
course, she is everywhere, is Linda. She’s also in East Yorkshire – that is now
her home - and we’ll be talking to Linda tomorrow night on the programme at
half past six.

That’s it from me. Enjoy your day and join me tonight at 6.30pm for Look North
on BBC1. And look out for the Levy Letter tomorrow. And don’t forget that if
you know someone who’d like a Levy Letter and is not yet subscribed then point
them in the direction of one of the two addresses at the bottom of this email.

And I’ll see you tomorrow.
Take care! Bye
Peter
