Hello, it’s Peter here for Thursday’s Levy letter, hope your day is going well
and that you’ll be able to join me as usual six thirty BBC 1. Paul will be
there with the forecast and of course we’ll bring you all the day’s news.
Talking of Paul, yesterday he was sharing the stage, at a literary luncheon
with the legendary comedian Eric Sykes. I understand that it all went extremely
well; the audience were very appreciative of both Paul and Eric. And news on
the grapevine, not that it’s for me to give any compliments, but I hear his
book ‘That’s the Forecast’ is excellent and is selling very well indeed. By the
way if you’re around a certain book shop on Saturday morning at round about 11
o’clock, Paul and I will be there for an hour or so. If you can make it down,
look forward to seeing you.

Calendars

Talking of things on sale, the BBC Children in Need Calendars are doing very
well indeed, beautiful views from around our region. The calendars are £5, £6
if you want to send a cheque, payable to the BBC, and we’ll post out the
calendar to you. The address of course is Queens Court, Queens Gardens, Hull,
HU1 3RH. Pass the message around or if you can make it into one of our
receptions in Hull, Grimsby or Lincoln, or to the two BBC buses then get your
calendars there for £5.

More Photos!

Don’t forget as well, we’re looking for as many photos as possible for the big
screen every night to show on the programme. If you’ve got a picture that
you’re particularly proud of or one that you think would work well on the big
screen one, then send it to me. Either send me a hard copy or email me a
digital copy.

Richard Whiteley

As you know I’ve mentioned this several times over the last few months, the sad
death of Richard Whiteley in June of this year. Until he fell ill with
pneumonia he had never missed a day presenting Countdown. Well today there is a
memorial service in York Minster, for Richard Whiteley. Not just for family and
friends but also for Countdown viewers as well. Of course, as ever our thoughts
are with Richard’s family.

Music

I see that soon we will be buying more music over the internet and on the
computer than actually in record shops, that’s from a report out today. Makes
you wonder if the record shops days are numbered, I don’t know maybe they’ll be
one or two on the high street, because they’ll always be some people who prefer
buying a CD to downloading music. Although I guess things have changed so much
from my day when you went out and bought a 45 single, which is how it was for
many years. My favourite record at the moment, which I’ve just downloaded off
the internet is The Corrs and ‘Old Town’, it’s a great song and also, it sort
of reminds me of happy times in Hull , because they’re singing about the old
town. Obviously they’re not singing about Hull but it’s a good record, The
Corrs, catch it if you can.

Harry Potter

Well the critics are united that the latest Harry Potter movie is the best yet
and the scariest. Amidst the glowing reviews there was growing concern that it
could be too frightening for the boy wizard’s younger fans. Harry Potter and
the Goblet of Fire has a 12a rating, meaning that children under twelve cannot
see it without an adult. It’s the first time that a Harry Potter film has had
such a classification, the three previous movies were each rated PG. So there
we are, Harry is getting scarier and scarier!

Pregnancy

Scientists have unlocked the secret of what makes a happy family. A stress free
pregnancy can apparently deliver a popular child. All mothers to be wonder what
kind of adult their baby will become, will there child grow into a sociable
creature, for instance, bonding easily with others or will he or she struggle
to make friends. Well scientists think they’ve discovered the key to ensuring a
child’s success in forming relationships, their mother must avoid stress while
pregnant. I’m sure that every mother would prefer to avoid stress while
pregnant, I don’t suppose it’s always possible. Anyway the latest research out.

That’s it from me today, don’t forget if you want to drop me a line about any
of these issues or indeed anything then please do. Also any dentist stories,
your experiences with dentists or not getting a dentist, get in touch and let
me know. Email me direct at [EMAIL PROTECTED] Join me tonight six thirty BBC1
and look out for your levy letter tomorrow.

Peter
