Hello, it’s Peter here and welcome to Tuesday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day’s
going well and I hope you can join me tonight BBC1 at 6.30pm. We’ll have all
the day’s news and also tonight we’ll be talking to the actress Leah Bracknell.
Leah plays Zoe Tate in the long running soap Emmerdale and she’ll be joining me
tonight at 6.30pm.

Bury Me

A growing number of people are making the bizarre request to be buried with
their mobile phone! Can you believe this? You couldn’t make it up anyway! The
ancient Egyptians chose to go to their tombs covered in jewels and other
earthly treasures and often took their servants with them into the afterlife,
but Britons in the 21st Century are opting to be buried with their electronic
gadgets. According to research by Age Concern, people want to buried with a
plethora of unusual items. Last requests have baffled undertakers, which
include going to the grave with bottles of whiskey, papers, a fax machine and
in one case a coconut! Others have chosen to have their pets’ remains buried
with them. Some men have asked to take their golf clubs with them, while 2%
have, perhaps selfishly, asked to take their cash with them to the grave! One
person was even buried with a bag of crisps. A decade ago it was common for
people to be buried with love letters, photographs and wedding rings and!
other personal items, but these days things have changed. The top ten list of
things that are being taken to the grave at the moment – a mobile phone is
number one, fax machines are at number two. I mean, why would you want to be
buried with a fax machine?? Remains of a pet is number three, cash is at number
four, golf clubs number five, and a coconut is at number six! As I say, you
just couldn’t make it up!

Clever Clogs

Well, when Patrick Gibson won the jackpot on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire,
he’d started on a winning streak, but he certainly hadn’t finished. A year
later and he’s now won Mastermind! The computer programmer and self-confessed
trivia addict is Mastermind champion after a nail biting final where he
answered questions on the TV show Father Ted. Mr Gibson, who was from Ireland,
but now lives in Wigan, beat off other competition from a university lecturer,
a writer, an accountant and a translator. And now holds the title of Mastermind
champion and ITV’s Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. There’s something a little
bit unfair that someone can actually have a go at both and win both
competitions, but nevertheless he has. So well done to Patrick Gibson!

Smoking

Well, Look North would like to put out an appeal now for anyone who’s got an
event planned for the night of Thursday 24 November. That’s the night the
licensing laws change and 24 hours drinking’s introduced. We’ve some special
coverage planned for Friday’s programme, but we’d really like to send a camera
crew along to a birthday bash, Christmas party, a hen or stag night or even
just a pub crawl where there are quite a few of you attending. So if that’s you
and you’ve got a wild night planned for Thursday, then please let me know, we
want to know what it’s going to be like under these new laws. The normal
address to get in touch with me directly is [EMAIL PROTECTED] So hurry, please
get in touch if that’s you!

birthday to you! Have a wonderful day!

line and let me know. Of course, you can get me direct on email for this or
for anything else you want to chat to me about, including if you’ve got any
Leave it to Levy problems – the address is [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Children In Need

Don’t forget, Friday night is Children In Need. Join us for that on BBC1
throughout the evening. And if you haven’t got your Children In Need Calendar
yet for 2006 then they are still available. Pop into our receptions in Grimsby,
Lincoln or Hull and pick one up for £5. All proceeds go to Children In Need. If
you can’t get in to pick one up, then that’s not a problem. Just pop a cheque
in the post to us to BBC Look North Calendar, Queens Court, Queens Gardens,
Hull, HU1 3RH. The cheque needs to be payable to the BBC for £6 to cover
postage and packing. And as I say, it’s just a few days away from Children In
Need night, so join me on Friday night on BBC1 starting from 7.00pm.

Photographs

Photographs keep coming in for the Big Screen on the programme. If you’ve got a
photograph that you’re particularly proud of, a view or a scene or perhaps
something that’s a bit arty, if you’d like to see it on the programme, then
send it to me, either electronically via email, or just post a hard copy to me
to BBC Look North Photographs, Queens Court, Queens Gardens, Hull, HU1 3RH. And
make sure you include a return address on the back if you want us to send it
back to you.

New Seekers

If you’re about my age, or slightly less, you’ll remember the New Seekers. They
were a group in the seventies that were famously all about perfect harmonies.
The vocalist of the time was, Eve Graham – I haven’t heard her name mentioned
for a long time. The New Seekers, according to her, were destroyed by egos and
rows over money, which still rage to this day. But from 1970 – 1973 they had a
string of hits. Do you remember I’d Like To Teach The World To Sing, Beg Steal
Or Borrow, which won them second place in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1972
if my memory serves me right. But can you believe after all these years, and I
hadn’t heard from her for years and years, Eve Graham is making a solo comeback
at the age of 62! So there you are, she’s got a new solo album – The Mountains
Welcome Me Home. So Eve Graham is back thirty years after chart success and has
got a new album out at the age of 62.

Talking of music, one of the biggest musicals of all time, Seven Brides For
Seven Brothers is on this week at Hull New Theatre. In it is Dave Willetts and
Shona Lindsay, two stalwarts of the West End and I’m looking forward to seeing
them one night this week. I’m sure it’ll be a big hit this week at Hull New
Theatre.

Don’t forget if you’re involved in an amateur group or society and you’d like a
plug or a little bit of publicity in the Levy Letter, then do drop me a line
and let me know what you’re up to – [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Well that’s all from me on Tuesday. Join me tonight on BBC1 at 6.30pm and look
out for your Levy Letter tomorrow on Wednesday round about the same time.

See you soon

Peter
