Well, it’s Peter here and welcome to Thursday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day is
going well so far and that you’ll be able to join me tonight BBC1 at 6.30pm for
all the day’s news. Of course Paul will have the forecast and the rumours are
that it’s going to be very cold tomorrow on Friday. That’s Children In Need
night! If you can get to Lincoln, we’ll be doing the show live from Lincoln
tomorrow and I’ll be there throughout the evening at City Square right by the
ice rink that’s just been built there. City Square in the centre of Lincoln –
if you can make it down to Lincoln, then I look forward to seeing you on Friday
night. We’ll be there from about teatime through to fairly late on!

And just a reminder that there’s still time to get your BBC Children In Need
Peter and Paul calendar. They’re on sale for £5 at our receptions in Grimsby,
Lincoln and Hull or available from BBC Radio Humberside or BBC Radio
Lincolnshire buses as they travel throughout our region. Or if you can’t get in
or if you live away from the region, then all you need to do is to send a
cheque off to me made payable to the BBC for £6 to cover postage and packing
and the calendar will be yours by return of post!

Emails

Thanks very much to those who’ve written in. If you’d like to email me then the
usual address is [EMAIL PROTECTED]

A response has come in about a query yesterday about satellite navigation
systems. Paul wrote in to ask – “Where does sat. nav. fall under legislation?
If it’s against the law to use a mobile phone whilst driving, is it ok to play
with the sat. nav. system?” Well, we’ve had a response come in about this from
Rosemary Harrison from Pocklington. “To Paul who queried Satellite navigation.
You don't fiddle whilst driving, you set it before you start and, whilst there
is a map on the screen, listening for the voice is adequate. You are
specifically told not to set it whilst driving.” So there you are Paul, a
response for you. Thank you to you both for writing in about satellite
navigation, which is set to be one of the favourite Christmas presents of 2005!

Just to show that all the best people read the Levy Letter – “We are two Oxford
University students, who are deeply in love with your letters and indeed you!”
You can tell that they’re students can’t you!? But that’s from George and
Hazel. So George and Hazel – thank you very much indeed. So there you are, only
the best people reading the Levy Letter!

There’s one here from Sarah Lamming, “While I’m across the pond at Yale
University on an exchange programme, the Levy Letter keeps me up to date with
life at home. Having a break from studying to watch you and Paul on Look North
was one of the highlights of my day!” So there you are! Students both from
Oxford University and Yale University in the States. Sarah, thank you very much
for that and good luck with your studies!

And here’s another one that comes from John Shepherd from Market Rasen - “Would
you please wish my wife, Marjorie, a very happy birthday on Thursday 17
November. She’s a fan, she loves the programme. I can’t tell you her age,
because she would kill me!” Thanks for the letter and Marjorie have a very
happy birthday!

Women Look Younger

Well, forget botox, expensive anti-aging cream and macro-biotic diets. The
secret of looking young lies, would you believe it, in grapefruit! The scent of
the citrus makes women appear up to six years younger to men, a study has
shown. Psychiatrist Dr Alan Hirsh smeared middle aged women in the juice and
extracts of a variety of different fruits and vegetables and then got men to
guess their age. When men breathed in their scent of pink grapefruit, they
judged women to be around six years younger than their real age. So ladies, if
you want to appear younger to the fellas, then you know what to do! Smear
yourself with citrus fruit or grapefruit juice before you go out!

New Seekers

I mentioned the New Seekers as well yesterday about how Eve Graham, all those
years later is releasing a new single. Several people wrote in to say that the
New Seekers played Hull City Hall and everyone seems to think this was in 1974.
So thank you for that information and we may look forward to seeing Eve Graham
on the programme when her new single is out.

That’s it from me. Have a very good day. I hope you can join me tonight, BBC1
at 6.30pm for all the day’s news and look out for your Levy Letter tomorrow
round about the same time.

Take care, bye

Peter
