Hello, it’s Peter here and welcome to Friday’s Levy Letter. Friday, the 18th
November is of course Children In Need night 2005! Lots of fundraising events
are going on right across the region and of course the big television
spectacular is starting at 7.00pm on BBC1 tonight.

BBC Look North for Yorkshire and Lincolnshire will be broadcasting from two
places tonight for Children In Need – from the BBC Open Centre in Hull from
7.00pm, Caroline Davies will be there, and if you’re in the Lincoln area, then
come on down to the new ice skating rink at Lincoln’s City Square at Waterside
south in Lincoln. Join me tonight, broadcasting live, from 6.30pm right through
to fairly late on. Lots of events are going on in Lincoln. I shall be joined by
several guests including television chef Rachel Green, also Sue Hodge, who
plays Mimi LaBonque in ‘Allo ‘Allo and also Anita Harris will be there, who is
set to perform in the musical Annie.

Lisa Gallagher will have the weather forecast for you as well. If you can make
it down, then it’s Lincoln City Square tonight. I look forward to seeing you a
little bit later on! And if you’re involved in fundraising today then the very
best of luck! Enjoy Children In Need 2005!

Christmas

Well, once Children In Need is over, it’s always a sign that Christmas will
very quickly be upon us. I was reading this morning that if you were dreaming
of a white Christmas then you might be disappointed. Black Christmas trees are
flying out of the shops. I have to say that I haven’t actually seen a black
Christmas tree yet, but apparently they are very high fashion at the moment, if
you want to be trendy. Maybe Hull hasn’t got that far yet, I don’t know, but I
haven’t seen any. But the shoppers, who are keen to follow the festive fashion,
could be too late. One store has already sold out of its six foot artificial
black trees. It sells at just £90! Just £90? No wonder I haven’t seen that many
of them. The department store chain said that staff were selling more black
trees than the traditional white, gold and green varieties. So there you are,
if you want to be trendy and ‘in’ then get yourself a black Christmas tree!!

Under Stress

In times of stress, many of us reach for a bar of chocolate or a packet of
biscuits. Although many of us believe these snacks are bad for us, it’s an
instinctive way of trying to cope when the going gets tough. Now research shows
that such comfort eating is good for us and could be the best medicine for us
in stressful situations. Do you mean to say that we’ve had researchers working
on the fact that if we’re a little bit stressed or down then a bar of chocolate
is the ideal pick-me-up?!? Well, apparently they’ve done that and it’s official
it does help! I could have done that research for them I think!

Holidays

This is quite a hard one to believe. If you get four weeks holiday a year from
your job, you will probably take four weeks holiday a year, unless you’re me of
course! But I read this morning, that more than half of all Britain’s workers
are losing out on their holidays. 60% of workers don’t take all of their
holiday allowance and it’s not that they’re being cheated by their bosses, they
just don’t claim their full entitlement. Some even admit to forgetting to take
what is due to them despite the UK’s reputation for long working hours and few
bank holidays. By the end of next month, 60% will have holiday time owing
according to a survey out yesterday. So there you, something fairly dear to my
heart! But 60% of workers don’t take all of their holiday entitlement.

Write To Me

If you’d like to comment on any of the items I’ve written about in the Levy
Letter, or anything else that you’d like us to talk about, or guests you’d like
to see on the programme, then do get in touch. Drop me a line, about anything
at all, it’s [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Calendars

Just a reminder, as it’s Children In Need day, that the BBC Look North Children
In Need calendar is still on sale. You can call in and pick one up for £5 from
any of our receptions, either in Lincoln, Grimsby or at our Hull Open Centre.
They’re also available on our two buses – BBC Radio Humberside or BBC Radio
Lincolnshire buses as they travel across the region. They include some
wonderful pictures sent in by our viewers of various scenes across the region –
some really beautiful photographs are in there! Or if you can’t get out, then
you can send us a cheque for £6 to cover postage and packing to BBC Look North
Calendar, Queens Court, Queens Gardens, Hull, HU1 3RH. Just make the cheque
payable to the BBC for £6 and then we’ll send you a calendar by return of post!
We’ve sold a lot so far and as it’s for such a great cause, thank you so much
to everyone who’s bought one so far.

And just a reminder, as I always do on a Friday before we go, that if you’re
meeting anyone over the weekend, who is not signed up for the Levy Letter and
would like a daily email from me, then get them to go to one of the two
addresses at the bottom of the page. Follow the instructions through and then
they should receive a Levy Letter on Monday!

That’s it from me. Enjoy Children In Need day. Hope you can join me tonight
either in Lincoln in City Square or by watching on BBC1 at 6.30pm through to
late on in the evening for all of the Children In Need coverage. Have a very
good weekend and look out for your Levy Letter on Monday.

Take care, bye.

Peter
