Hello, it’s Peter here and welcome to today’s Levy Letter. I hope your day is
going well so far and I hope you’ll be able to join me tonight on BBC One at
6.30pm. I’ll have all the day’s news and on tonight’s programme, Look North
will show the CCTV pictures of the last known movements of a Hull woman found
murdered at the weekend. The body of Lynne Barwick was discovered on Saturday
afternoon in a ditch in Paull, in the East Riding. She'd been strangled. Police
have released CCTV footage of her last movements, in an effort to prompt
memories from members of the public as to her last known whereabouts. We'll
have the latest as the murder investigation continues.

Plus, after a morning meeting today, which has outlined the job losses and
controversial changes to hospital services in Lincolnshire, I’ll be looking at
the impact of more than four hundred job losses in the region. The Health
Trust, which runs the county's hospitals, has had to look at how a deficit of
one million pounds a month can be reduced. I'll be talking to the Chief
Executive of the Health Trust about that and getting the full details.

Also on the programme, I'll reveal why the term - house wife - is now being
considered politically incorrect! Even the WI thinks it's unfashionable. I’m
sure you’ve got a view on that one and I want to hear it!

Plus my guest tonight is Gwyneth Strong, who played Rodney’s long suffering
girlfriend, Cassandra, in Only Fools And Horses. Gwyneth is in a new show at
Hull New Theatre and will be joining me tonight.

And the weather forecast, of course, is from his worship, the Mayor of Wetwang,
Paul Hudson. Everyone bow please for his Lordship! So I hope you can join me on
BBC One at half past six if you can.

Keane

I’ve got a special competition in the Levy Letter today. They were the hottest
band last year and they’ve won a string of awards. Well, Keane are back with a
new album and a new UK tour and Look North has got a special competition to win
a pair of tickets to see them perform. Hopes and Fears was the name of their
first record breaking album, but can you name Keane’s new album? It has just
been released and you must have seen lots of billboards and advertisements for
it on the television. So just let me know what the name of Keane’s new album is
and email me in. A pair of tickets to see Keane perform in Hull in October
could be yours. Just email me the name of the new album to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Awards

Last night, the Royal Television Society Awards were held in Leeds and I’m
delighted to say that Look North won three awards. Congratulations to Linsey
Smith, who was named Best Newcomer of the Year, Reporter of the Year was our
Lincolnshire rural affairs correspondent, Guy Lynn and also Best Graphic
Designer went to our Ian Paul Joyce. So those awards went to three members of
our Look North team last night at the Royal Television Society Award ceremony
last night in Leeds. So congratulations to them.

Pensions

I see that more than one adult in four is not paying into a pension fund. In
2005, 17% of over eighteens were apparently not bothering with a pension, but
this figure has soared to 28% in the latest survey. People are not impressed
and are not bothering with pensions. One in four do not have a pension fund. I
must admit that if I’d known, what I know today, when I was a lot younger, then
I would have started paying into a pension a lot earlier than I did.

And talking of money, Britain’s first credit card – the piece of plastic that
revolutionised the way we shop – celebrated its fortieth birthday this week.
It’s forty years since the first credit card! Can you believe that?

Football

Well, love it or loathe it, but there’s plenty of football on at the moment. In
fact there’s plenty of sport on the television too, with the tennis starting as
well now. The World Cup managed to pull in thirty million viewers, when England
played at the weekend. The last time thirty million people sat down to watch
the same programme was the funeral of Princess Diana and that was nine years
ago. The figures for last Sunday’s one nil triumph show that more than eighteen
million people watched the game at home, but millions more watched the game in
pubs or at parties, which have swelled the statistics massively. So if there
were thirty million last weekend watching that game, then imagine how many more
will be watching the next game!

And talking of sport, it was Wimbledon yesterday. Day One of the tennis
tournament and there were only thirty-five minutes of play, because of the
weather! And there was one interview in the paper this morning from a family in
Yorkshire, who travelled all the way down to London to sit in the rain all day
and only got to see a tiny bit of play. Of course, all day up here it was dry
as well with no rain at all. Normally the other way around isn’t it!

Coffee

I’m sure you know by now about my feelings for coffee! It’s certainly one of my
vices, but something that I’ve been trying to cut down on now that I’m on
Gillian McKeith’s regime! But I read today that yet again coffee is being
quoted as having health benefits! Can you believe it? It’s said that coffee is
helping reduce the risk of developing diabetes. This is according to new
research. Although, this study is not the first to document these benefits
apparently. The consumption of coffee, but in particular the decaffeinated
variety, showed distinct benefits for reducing the risk of diabetes. Women, who
drank the coffee, were 22% percent less likely to develop diabetes than the
group in the study, who drank no coffee. And this was significantly accounted
for in the group that drank decaffeinated coffee rather than regular coffee. So
there you are. Perhaps we should all try some decaf coffee – me included! Can
you tell the difference between the two, between regular and decaf?!
I think you can, but I’m willing to give it a go – I’m sure Gillian would
approve!

Pictures

If you’ve got a picture that you think we could use on the programme, then send
it to me at the usual address of [EMAIL PROTECTED] And don’t forget if you’ve
got a problem or an issue that you think we could help you with for Leave it to
Levy, then drop me a line. For Leave it to Levy problems, then I would also
appreciate a contact telephone number as well, so that we can get in touch with
you. So email me at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Also, as you know I like to hear your suggestions about guests for the
programme. Well, one of your favourite suggestions has been the American
singer, Curtis Stigers. Curtis was on the programme a little while ago and he
proved to be a real charmer. Loads of you emailed in to say how much you liked
him and liked his music. Well, Curtis will be joining me for a chat tomorrow.
So, if there’s a burning question that you’d like me to ask him – something
about Curtis that you’d love to know about, then let me know and I’ll try and
put that question to him! Of course, I can’t ask him out on a date for you! So
any other questions please to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

That’s it. Have a very good day and join me later on BBC One at 6.30pm.

Take care,

Peter
