Hello, it’s Crispin Rolfe here today with Wednesday’s Levy Letter. It’s my turn
to stand in for Peter on letter writing duties. Coming up on the show tonight
with me and Caroline Davis, we'll have the story of the heartless thieves who
stole a Christmas tree from sheltered housing for the elderly.

The inquest into one of the worst road crashes in Lincolnshire's recent history
ends today. Six people died, and we’ll have the results of that inquest tonight.

A mother from Lincolnshire says she's effectively banned from buses if she has
more than one pushchair. Well a lot of mothers will no doubt sympathise with
her, and we’ll have more on tonight’s show.

And we'll have exclusive pictures of the work being done to restore a historic
Lancaster Bomber. It’s part of our local heritage, and you’ll be able to see
that fantastic machine in our report.

On the 70th anniversary of the publication of her famous book "South Riding",
we'll take a look back at the life of Winifred Holtby, and speak to somebody
who knew her.

And we continue our countdown to Christmas with a performance from the
Scunthorpe Cooperative Junior Choir. That’s part of a wonderful series of
performances we’ve captured from different parts of our region, and you wont
want to miss it. Of course, we’ll also have a detailed weather forecast for our
region on the show tonight, all at the usual time of half past six on BBC One.

If you’ve been watching the show lately you’ll know that Grimsby’s Christmas
tree has come in for some stick, with some calling it a disgrace. We featured
it on Look North, and I have to say it didn’t look in the best of health did
it? Well Roy from the Crowhill Neighbourhood watch emailed in to let us know
that in at least some parts of our region, the art of Christmas decoration is
very much alive.

“I have followed with interest the coverage on your programme in regard to the
lack of lights and imagination that have gone in to decorations and trees in
some parts of our region. Well here in Cleethorpes I can assure that one area
has not forgotten how to it should be done. The Crowhill Neighbourhood Watch
Group have decorated the street with lights running from house to house all
along Crowhill Avenue. Residents have also decorated their houses and taken
part in our Best Window Display and Best Lights Display competition.
This is one of the many events that the Watch has organised over the Christmas
period. The children have again been busy with the paints and crayons and have
drawn pictures for the giant advent Calendar. Each day leading up Christmas Day
a new picture is revealed in one of the windows in Crowhill. Hampers for our
senior residents have been handed out and last weekend saw our annual
children’s Christmas Disco and Party.
The Christmas celebrations come to a fitting conclusion tomorrow night,
Wednesday 20th December 2006 when members of The Kingsway Printers Band play a
selection of traditional Christmas Carols in the Avenue. Everyone is welcome to
come and join us. The concert starts at 6.00pm, and will be held in Crowhill
Avenue Cleethorpes.”

Thanks to Roy for that, it sounds like they’ve managed to transform Crowhill
Avenue into a veritable winter wonderland. If you’re in the Cleethorpes area,
make sure you pop down to have a look at that, and don’t forget the concert
tonight. If anyone manages to make it over, then let us know how it goes at the
email address this week while Peter’s away [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Christmas Television

Well we’re getting very close to Christmas, and everyone knows what that means
– peace and love, excited children, seasonal cheer, and of course Christmas
television! Peter often takes a look at the television schedules in the Levy
Letter, and we’re going to continue that with a brief look at some of the stuff
you can look forward to on your screens over Christmas.

Well tonight there’s Nigella’s Christmas Kitchen, which is bound to have some
top tips for preparing Christmas dinner, which is always a challenge. Looking
ahead to Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, he’s managed to get the first
television interview with Richard Hammond since his horrific crash earlier this
year, so that’ll be quite an event.
For all you Strictly Come Dancing fans, and I know there must be some, the
final is on BBC One on Saturday night. On Sunday there’s a television
institution with Carols from Kings, which has been broadcast live since 1928!
If you need any help getting into the festive spirit there’s nothing better
than a few carols.
There’s a Dr Who special on Christmas day, with Catherine Tate guest starring.
The Vicar of Dibley is back with the very last episodes ever, and for the kids
– and adults – there’s the Pixar film Monsters, Inc on Christmas day afternoon
on BBC One.
While you’re eating left over turkey and playing with your presents on Boxing
day you’ll be able to watch a special episode of Springwatch looking back over
the best bits from 2006, and Johnny Depp plays everyone’s favourite inebriated
pirate in Pirates of the Caribbean at 7.30 on BBC One.

And of course Look North will be running over the Christmas and new year
period, however not on Christmas day itself. We will be back from Boxing day at
the slightly later evening time of six twenty two, and running at slightly
different times over the new year so be sure to check your television schedules
so you don’t miss any of our Look North programmes.

Well that’s about it for today, be sure to tune in tonight at half past six for
tonight’s Look North.

Bye for now

Crispin
