Hello and welcome to Tuesday’s Levy Letter. Of course Peter is still on holiday
at the moment, so letter writing honours go to me again, Caroline Davis. You’ll
be able to see me and Crispin Rolfe presenting Look North again tonight, but
it’s not all change, we’re still at the usual time of six thirty on BBC One and
as ever we’ll have all the day’s news and stories from our region.

The inquest opens today into one of Lincolnshire's worst accidents in 30 years.
On the programme tonight we'll try to find out how 6 people died on Valentine's
day this year in that terrible incident.

We'll hear from the Lincoln family struggling after the collapse of the
Farepack Christmas saving scheme in which they lost £600. They’ve managed to
get some of the money back, but only £60 so far. The family say they don’t
expect to get any more money back either.

As European ministers meet to cut fishing quotas for cod again, we find out
what we'll be eating instead. That sounds ominous doesn’t it? Well if you like
your cod then don’t miss this tonight.

Zimbabwean refugee Ashley McMasters has been told she can stay in the UK. She’s
had a long fight against deportation, and she'll be joining us in the studio to
share her feelings after this eventual success.

And it was a defining political scandal of the 60s. We'll hear from the Hull
writer Gill Adams as she talks about her play about the life of Christine
Keeler and the Profumo affair. Well I don’t stretch back that far, but I’m
looking forward to having her in the studio for a chat. And of course we’ll
have a detailed weather forecast for the region as ever. That’s all at half
past six on BBC One.

Messages

Well we get a lot of messages sent in to us at Look North. Of course we read
and listen to them all, and viewers’ feedback and comments are a vital part of
the programme. One of the topics we’ve had a big response on is the proposed
closure of post offices, we’ve had loads of comments on this.

Mary Ellis from Dunholme in Lincolnshire wrote in to say -

“There are many people in this country who do not have a car, do not have a
bank account, do not have a choice of where they shop, pay bills, meet people
who offer a support system and who rely on the post offices in their community.”

Ginger Gallagher wrote in with this comment –

“Another problem with closing post offices in the country, is an increase in
global worming because more people will be driving into towns & cities.”

Dave in North Lincolnshire wrote to say –

“I am writing to support the continued funding of rural post offices. I am a
family man who personally would not miss the post office. I do however feel
that they are important particularly to the elderly and disabled in rural
areas. In issues such as this sadly people do not complain until it directly
affects them by which time it is too late”

Kieron from Hull texted in with this –

“Close post offices in the cities to save the rural ones. We don’t need so many
in one city. There should be one big one in the city centre.”

One anonymous caller simply says –

“You don’t pay for a concern that loses money every week.”

Well there were lots more comments on that subject, mostly in favour of keeping
the post offices open. I’m sure we’ll be continuing to cover this story on Look
North, so keep watching to get all the latest.

Ideas

We're still looking for ideas from you for a series of films entitled
"Something you've never seen". It may be that you've always wanted to see
inside the dressing rooms at Lincoln City, you might have a hankering to learn
what goes on at a chocolate factory or you might want a closer look at the
tremendous wildlife that can be found at Bempton Cliffs in East Yorkshire.
Those are just some suggestions, but we'd love to hear your ideas - after all,
we get a lot of our stories and features from suggestions by viewers. Send your
ideas to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and you never know, they may end up making it onto
the programme in the New Year.

Well that’s about all for today’s letter. Don’t forget, if you have something
to want to contribute to the letter, or some query you’d like answered, then
send your email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and put Levy Letter in the subject heading
and we’ll fit it into the letter before the end of the week.

Take care

Caroline
